Woman separated from husband for delivering girl child, dies in hospital

JAMMU, Jan 8: A woman separated from her husband for delivering a girl child, today breathed her last in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Government Medical College here.
”A woman namely Pooja (24), wife of Ashwani Kumar, resident of Vijaypur, district Samba, was admitted to the ICU here on December 5,” police sources here said.
”The woman died this evening. Family of the deceased has alleged that she was tortured to death by her in-laws for delivering a girl child. ”We have recorded the statement of the parental family of the woman and started investigations. The case is already registered at Police Station, Vijaypur,” they added.
Meanwhile, Station House Officer, Vijaypur, Suraj Pathania, ”a case under Section 498 of RPC (cruelty against women) has been registered against the in-laws of the deceased.”
”The couple had estranged relations after marriage, while the woman was sent to her parent’s house by the husband after delivering a girl child, as she was unwell and reportedly suffering from malnutrition and anaemia,” said the SHO.
He said for more than two months, the woman was living with her parents in Ramgarh village of Vijaypur tehsil. ”She was keeping unwell and was admitted to the hospital, but on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family that she was tortured and harassed, an FIR has been lodged and investigation initiated,” the SHO added.
