Woman climbing team leaves for Delhi to participate in Sport Climbing competition

JAMMU, July 21: Three-member Sport Climbing team of Mountaineering Association of J&K left today for Delhi to participate in the 1st Women North Zone (NZ) Sport Climbing Competition being organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee at IMF complex, New Delhi.
The team comprised of Ambreen Fatima, Kumari Bindia Sharma and Sakshi Magotra along with Shashi Kant, a climbing instructor. The general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria, also accompanied the team.
The competitions shall be conducted in all the three forms of climbing i.e lead, speed and bouldering at the international standard 50ft high lead and speed climbing walls and the bouldering Gym in the IMF premises. The J&K climbers though quite inexperienced as far as climbing on international standard walls is concerned are expected to put up a good show and win at least three medals in lead and bouldering.
Earlier, the team went through a 7-day coaching camp at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu under the guidance of Shashi Kant, a local climbing instructor. The team was also screened by the officials of J&K State Sports Council.
