Srinagar, Jan 15: With improvement in situation in Kashmir, the withdrawal of over 100 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) companies which were additionally brought in Valley to tackle the unrest last year in July has started.
The unrest in the Valley started with the killing of top militant commander Burhan Muzzafar Wani on July 8 along with two other militants in South Kashmir’s Kokernag area of Anantnag district and instantly engulfed entire Valley and at that time the State Government summoned additional companies of CRPF to restore the law and order.
Officials said that besides the already stationed CRPF companies in Valley, 102 additional companies were rushed to Kashmir and were deployed in all 10 districts. Each company of the CRPF consists of 135 men and the 102 companies’ consists of 13,770 personnel with Assistant Commandant heading each.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of CRPF, Rajesh Yadav, said that with the considerable improvement in the situation the process to withdraw the additional companies has been started in phased manner. “As of now, 15 companies have been withdrawn from the Kashmir and the process to withdraw another 40 companies is underway,” he said.
The PRO said that the companies which were brought into Valley additionally will be dispatched to poll-bound States of the country for election duties. “We will act according to the situation,” he added.
