SRINAGAR, June 26: Hund-reds of people from across the State called on the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti at her official residence, Fairview, here today to extend personal felicitations for her resounding victory in the Anantnag by-poll.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the people and assured that she would continue to work for their welfare.
A steady stream of visitors, including civil society members, politicians and officials started arriving at Fairview, immediately after the Chief Minister reached there from Civil Secretariat where she chaired a meeting of the State Cabinet, earlier this morning.
Mehbooba thanked the voters for choosing her and her party and vowed to work with a new found energy for the welfare of people.
“I am overwhelmed by the resounding victory the people of Anantnag have given me. My party and I are indebted to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for helping us to emerge as a strong regional force,” Mehbooba said as hundreds of supporters swarmed her house.
She said it is an honour and a privilege to be elected from a seat which was represented by her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. “I am heartened that the voters of Anantnag have put their trust in me to continue the work on my father’s behalf,” she said.
The Chief Minister said the credit for PDP’s impressive performance, undoubtedly, goes to the disciplined, dedicated and ideologically motivated cadres of the party.
“It would be my endeavour to work for the welfare of the people, especially the youth, who have suffered untold miseries because of the political and economic instability and uncertainties plaguing the state for the past more than six decades,” she said.
