JAMMU: Stressing for implementing for widening of New plots-Ambphalla road and construction of a playground as well as public parking would be major challenges before the Corporator of the Ward No 17 mainly comprising New Plots, Ambphalla and Pucca Talab, Suresh Kumar, a youth of New Plots said that constructing a playground in the area is a long pending demand of the young voters.
“No land has been selected for the playground till date due to unknown reasons and even a layout plan has not been approved”, he regretted.
People of the area also complained that there is no public parking in the area and inhabitants as well as visitors are compelled to park their vehicles on roadsides, or near their houses in lanes resulting into traffic jams.
“Moreover, the Ambphalla crossing near JAKFED has become very narrow due to traffic burden and it needs to be widened further for easy flow of vehicles”.
The water pines laid in this Ward are mostly old and need immediate repair/replacement, water leakage is the core issue resulting in low pressure which should be resolved in the shortest possible time. Due to shortage of water, the women folk residing in this Ward face manifold problems in carrying out their daily works.
“Water is not being supplied on daily basis in our wards, which causes problems to us. We hope our newly elected Corporator will take immediate steps to provide regular drinking water”, Garima Sharma, residing in the Ward said.
“Insanitation is big issue in our ward. Every now and then, drains remain choked and in monsoon season, the drains overflow and dirty water enters into shops and houses”, Rama Devi, a resident of area said. Adding to this, she said that heaps of garbage can be seen on road sides and corners of the lanes as no dustbins have been placed in the area.
Soma Devi, a house wife living at Ambphalla complained that water supplied by the PHE Department in their area is dirty and unsafe. Moreover, they have to face acute water shortage during every Monsoon season but no solution has been found till date by the authorities.
“In some parts of Pacca Talab, the street lights are damaged due to which residents face problems during night. Taking advantage of this, many thieves can become active, one Garu Ram said.
Adv Nidhi Mangotra, BJP Corporator of Ward No 17 said that now when people have given her responsibility, she will not disappoint them.
Talking about her priorities as a Corporator, she said she would try to further improve the sanitation system for better living condition. The other priority will be removing encroachments from lanes and roads and proper street lighting and their timely repair and maintenance. Besides, inadequate water supply and damaged lanes, drains are other issues which the people of the Ward are facing.
Heaps of garbages on road sides, choked drains, menace of stray dogs, non-functional street lights and low pressure of PHE water supply are also the problems which the residents of Ward No 17 of Jammu Municipal Corporation are facing.
Adv Mangotra, a well educated personality of this ward, is ready to take up challenges.
While talking to Excelsior, she said, her father Balwan Singh was ex-Corporator of this ward and before joining BJP was active social worker of the area and now she feels that many upgrading works has been done by her father and she only has to maintain this stature with more dedication.
She said that the problems of insanitation cannot be solved by just making drains and proper covering the two nallah but also inculcating good habits among the residents by generating awareness. People should not throw their household waste anywhere. Moreover, there should be strict enforcement of ban on polythene bags and she would ensure that.
On non-functional street lights, she said that one person has been deputed by the JMC to look after street lights of three wards due to which maintenance, repair and replacement of defected lights, does not happen timely. The Corporator said she would try to ensure that one person is given the responsibility of one ward only.
