Wheat slides on reduced offtake by flour mills

NEW DELHI, Feb 25:  Wheat prices fell by up to Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to reduced offtake by flour mills against ample stocks postiion.

Barley also eased on lack of buying support from consuming industries.

However, rice basmati edges up on scattered demand.

Traders said besides, easing demand from flour mills, adequate stocks position on increased supplies from producing regions, mainly kept pressure on wheat prices.

In the national capital, wheat (desi) and wheat dara (for mills) drifted lower by Rs 50 and Rs 30 to Rs 2,600-2,900 and Rs 1,880-1,890 per quintal respectively. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by Rs 30 to Rs 1,890-1,920 per 90 kg.

Maida also eased to Rs 1,070-1,080 against last close of Rs 1,110-1,120 per 50 kg.

Barley too finished lower by Rs 50 to Rs 1,750-1,770 per quintal.

On the other hand, in the rice section, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety moved up by Rs 100 each to Rs 7,200-7,300 and Rs 5,700-7,100 per quintal respectively.
