Week-long Baba Sidh Goria Mela begins

SAMBA, June 28: A week long annual fair (Mela) attracts people from all walks of life commenced today at Baba Sidh Goria Ji shrine, Swankha near Vijaypur in Samba district.
The Shrine of Baba Sidh Goria is prominently known in the State and the devotees from different parts of the State and outside throng every year in the month of June-July and the Mela goes on for seven days.
Thousands of devotees started pouring in the premises of the temple since the morning and were seen curiously waiting for their turn to pay obeisance.
People also took a customary dip in the pond situated near shrine, which is believed to have curative powers and then offer prayers at the temple.
“Baba Goria Nath was a follower of renowned legendary saint Guru Gorakh Nath who took salvation while bathing in the pond at the place where Devsthal stands. Since then it is believed that the water of the holy Sarovar (pond) have mystic powers,” said Sadhana Devi, a devotee.
Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Prakash Ganga, former Minister and, MLA Surjeet Singh Slathia, Senior Congress leader, Manjeet Singh, SSP Samba, Joginder Singh and other senior officials also visited the shrine and paid obeisance to Baba Sidh Goria for peace and prosperity of the country.
Mr Ganga who paid obeisance at the shrine appreciated the efforts of the district administration for providing all facilities to the devotees and also appreciated R&B Department for improving the road connectivity in the area. He said better road connectivity has benefitted large number of devotees who came to pay obeisance at Baba Sidh Goria shrine at Swankha.
At Swankha Mela, every year people come in large numbers to pay obeisance at the shrine. They used to take bath in holy `sarovar; which is believed to have healing and spiritual powers.
