Explore more tourist spots
Sir,
Aparna Ashram at
Mantalai which was constructed by religious
Guru of Late Smt Indira Gandhi Prime
Minister of India, will be taken over by Tourism
department as per the statement of J&K
Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora. The Ashram
which is spread over 11000 kanals of land and
consists of state of the art facilities like
hospital, hotel building, residential block,
telephone exchange, helipad, research laboratory,
yoga hall and a swimming pool. The Ashram is
lying domant since its
founder Dhindra Bramachari died in an aircrash.
Mantalai has a
vast tourist potential due to its natural,
geographic features but remained untapped for so
much time. Mr Jora deserves three cheers for
exploring new and hitherto untapped tourist
destinations. The Tourism Department under his
guidance is all set to explore more new tourist
destinations as J&K has been blessed by a
vast number of spots and places which can be
developed into tourist destinations. Tourist
season is all set to start and the recent
peaceful elections for J&K Legislative
Assembly with high voter turnout have been able
to send peace messages, all over and
tourists are sure to visit J&K in large
numbers in the coming season. If more tourist
spots are explored and developed, the 'fractured'
tourism industry in J&K is sure to get a
lease of life.

Festive times
Sir,
The write up
How festive times they
were by Indu Raina published in
Sunday Magazine of the Excelsior dated Feb 22,
2009, on the eve of Shivratri was a piece worth
reading. The author has been able to spell
volumes in a lucid and precise language. The
author has made the readers travel down the
memory lane when prior to migration the
celebration of Mahashivratri was celebrated for
complete one month with pristine glory by the
Kashmiri Pandits in co-operation with all the
sections of Muslim society. Each day right from
Maha Purnima- Kawa Punim right upto til Ashtami
has been lucidly described and highlighted. Maha
Shivratri has been and continues to be the most
important most revered festival of Kashmiri
Pandits.
On this occasion,
all the family members living away from homes due
to postings or other jobs made it a point to
return to their homes on this festive occasion
and celebrate. It becomes more relevant when the
Kashmir Pandit community is scattered all over
the globe for education, jobs and other reasons,
but we can find and exchange pleasantries with
all those whom we could not see for years.

Make JU a Central University
Sir,
The University of
Jammu is now labelled as one of the best
universities as it conforms to not only national
but international standards in academic and
related pursuits. A host of international events
were held at the campuses in the recent years.
During the last decade the university has spread
its tentacles of education by establishing
extension campus at Bhadarwah, Kathua, Rajouri
and other places. The University has also started
post graduate courses in degree colleges which
are now known as post graduate colleges.
The University of
Jammu is having its control, in shape of
affiliation over many technical and professional
colleges of private sector also. The overall
educational standard, the infrastructure, the
laboratories and the libraries have witnessed
updation and standardisation in the recent past
to meet the changes of ever changing and
progressive world of education. The sports
facilities and other extra curricular activities
are bubbling in the camp uses of the university.
A high level team from University Grants
Commission (UGC) has put the University for
thorough inspection in its various departments
and other wings to evaluate the performance of
the University of various levels and different
aspects. It will be just and due, if the
university of Jammu is awarded the status of a
Central University. It deserves the status and
students of Jammu and Kashmir will get benefitted
and appreciation.
Yours
