IPS to make foray in to nuclear power field in India MUMBAI, Mar 1: Pitching hard and strong for an aggressive growth plan in India, global technology, software and consulting firm Invensys Process Systems (IPS) is in advanced stage of negotiations with Indian firms on encashing on the nuclear power potential of the country. Close on the heels of India being accepted as a member in the global civilian nuclear club, IPS is already having serious discussions with a strategic partner in India and was keen to contribute its technology in instrumentation and control systems in which it had gain vast experience, Company Vice-President for strategy and marketing in Asia pacific region, Sherie Ng told UNI in an interview here. ''We are here for a longer haul to share the expertise and experience we had gained in the field'' she added. Ms Ng who declined to come out with further details said the signing of the safeguards agreement with IAEA had thrown open a plenty of opportunity for the company, which was already growing at 30 per cent in India, especially in the fields of Oil and Gas, petrochemical, mining sectors. A recent entrant to the Indian power sector, IPS, Ms Ng said, had already bagged orders in India for 15,000 MW, including a 4000 MW thermal plant, adding that in the nucler power field it had recently won an order in China to provide critical control, safety and simulation technologies for a new generation nuclear power plant. The order was worth USD 250 million, she added. IPS has located a major global engineering excellence centre in Hyderabad with a manpower of over 600 engaged there in contributing to the global technologies developed by IPS. IPS had in all 1000 staff in six facilities in India, she said adding that the company would be adding more people. She said apart from new greenfield projects, the company would also provide solutions to enhance production in existing thermal and nucler power plants through its solutions drawn from rich experience and expertise globally, besides cutting costs considerably. (UNI) Mukesh Ambani group to meet today to mull RIL-RPL merger MUMBAI, Mar 1: The Mukesh Ambani group will meet tomorrow to consider the merger of the countrys largest private sector company Reliance Industries and its refinery subsidiary Reliance Petroleum, a move that will put the merged entity on the list of the worlds top 50 profitable companies. The boards of both the companies are scheduled to meet tomorrow (March 2) to consider the merger of the two entities, which would in turn make Reliance Industries one of the worlds largest refiners. As per the current share prices of the two companies, the share-swap ratio for the said merger could be one Reliance Industries share for 16-17 Reliance Petroleum shares. However, the companies are yet to disclose the share-swap ratio. On February 27, the scrip of Reliance Petroleum closed at Rs 76.20, down 1.23 per cent, while Reliance Industries was quoted at Rs 1,265.05, down 1.97 per cent on the BSE. According to officials, it would be a "plain vanilla" merger and would be executed through an all-share transaction without any cash component. Besides, a merger between the two is likely to reduce focus on non-petroleum businesses such as retail and Special Economic Zones. RPL had raised Rs 8,100 crore through an IPO and had sold 5 per cent equity to US energy firm Chevron for USD 300 million. (PTI) TVS posts 13 pc increase in sales CHENNAI, Mar 1: Two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motors today said it has sold 1,07,301 units last month, up by 13 percent as compared with the corresponding period last year. The company said it had sold 95,235 units in the same period last year. The growth was achieved "despite industry being affected by high interest rates, lack of retail credit and the ongoing economic slowdown," the company said in the release. Cumulative growth in sales for the current financial year since April 2008 stood at three percent, the release said. The company exported 16,583 units of two wheelers in February 2009, as against the 12,523 units in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 32 percent, the release said. Exports continued its overall growth trend, registering 43 percent increase in cumulative sales for the period April 2008 to February 2009, the release said. The company's motorcycle sales stood at 49,659 units compared to 46,565 units in February 2008, posting an increase of seven percent over the same period of the previous year, the release said. However, the cumulative sales of motorcycles for April 2008-February 2009 recorded a four percent growth as compared to the same period of the previous year. Scooters sale posted a growth of 35 percent, the release said. (PTI) |

Kurl-On to set up three new facilities and 25 stores in India NEW DELHI, Mar 1: Mattress maker Kurl-On is looking at increasing its production capacity and retail presence in India with plans to set up three more manufacturing units and 25 outlets within next one year. "We currently have six manufacturing facilities including five in India with a total capacity of 1.25 lakh units of mattress annually. We are planning five more facilities, including three in India and two abroad, within next one year," Kurl-On Managing Director Sudhakar Pai said. He, however, refused to disclose the investment plans for the five new facilities or their production capacity. "The new facilities would be operational within next one year. Of the five facilities, three would be in India at Assam, Daman and Uttaranchal and two others would be located abroad at Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh," Pai said. He said the company is also planning to expand the retail presence of its exclusive Kurl-On Next outlets and aims to open 25 outlets during 2009. "We are planning to open 25 stores across India this year under franchise management. The investment for the new stores would come from the franchise partners," Pai said. The company has nine Kurl-On Nest outlets located at Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Indore and Mangalore. (PTI) |
