Exam from Oct 15
Exam Section, DDE in reformative
mood
By Devender Padha
JAMMU,
Sept 29: A
string of reforms are being carried out in the
Examination Section of University of Jammu (JU)
to streamline the functioning especially, in the
wake of increased workload due to added
responsibility of ever increasing affiliated
colleges.
Giving detail of
one of the reforms, Controller Examination Prof
Deshbandhu informed that under this phase,
special emphasis is being laid on standardization
of different processes and the beginning has been
made from initial level i.e. registration
process.
"From this
session onwards, the Registration Record (RR) of
all the new entrants would be in the shape of
standardized database which will not only save
the time but also minimize the errors
considerably," he added.
Under the
standardization process, unique 3-digit code has
been assigned to all the affiliated colleges and
different courses being offered by the University
and the combination of these codes will help in
composing a unique 10-digit ID for each student
registered with JU, he further added.
He mentioned
"This time we will reformulate and
authenticate the RR from different colleges at
University itself but soon training sessions for
college staff will be arranged to tell them about
the new process so that from next year, they
would be able to send the RR in the form of
database."
In another
reformative move, the Examination Section has
decided to clear the entire backlog of Degree
certificates of various courses in a single go
which means candidates would not have to wait too
long for obtaining the certificate.
Prof Deshbandhu
said that it has been decided to issue Degree
certificates to students within least possible
time i.e. six months after the declaration of
result. The decision was necessitated keeping in
view the convenience of students, he added.
He also mentioned
that the Degree certificate will now come with
some special features as well that includes
computerized format, standard A4 size, scanned
signature of Vice Chancellor etc besides,
carrying security features.
Prof Deshbandhu
informed that the section will ensure that all
the backlog Degree certificates till previous
session would be cleared by February 2009.
The Directorate of
Distance Education (DDE) has also made a
beginning towards the process of reforms, as it
is holding an "in-house" training
program to make its office staff computer savvy.
Talking to
EXCELSIOR, Director DDE, Prof Rajiv Gupta told
that its the need of hour to make the staff
computer knowing, as the entire functioning in
DDE will be computerized soon. "The training
is being imparted to staff in phased manner
keeping in mind the future requirements. We have
full fledged computer laboratory in the
directorate complex and the same is being
utilized for imparting training," he
mentioned.
Meanwhile, the DDE
has remained unfazed by the opening of several
degree colleges in nook and corner of Jammu
province, as so far, it has enrolled over 1200
students in BA course.
Earlier, it was
expected by many that the under graduate
enrolment in DDE will suffer a massive decline
due to opening of degree colleges even in the
remote areas.
The Office of
Controller Examination has issued the date sheet
for annual B.ED examination. The exam will
commence on October 15 (as scheduled earlier) and
conclude on November 10. All the exams will be

JDA Colony Roop Nagar
From the date of
existence of this colony (Roop Nagar) there is
problem of water supply. Instead of getting water
supply daily, we get water on alternate basis and
duration of supply is just 20 to 30 minutes. It
is because of old and rotten pipes which have not
been replaced particularly in sector 2/3 the
distribution of water supply is the hands of
daily wagers because no officer/official of PHE
remains present at the time of water supply.
Fluctuation of
electric supply has often been notice which has
caused huge loss to the residents of this
Electronic meters have been installed but no
computerised bill have been issued so far inspite
of request which has put subscribers a burden of
paying charge at one time though some bills were
issued but they are not correct.
There is no
transport bus or mini bus playing from city Jammu
to this colony inhabitants of this Colony has to
walk 3/4 Km to get a bus that too is always
overloaded.

Poor
maintenance of Canal road - J&K Banks
walkway
A wonderful
facility has been created by J&K Bank by
developing a walkway along the Canal. But it
needs to be emphasised that the walkway needs
proper and regular maintenance. The walls are
broken. The chairs are worn out. The restoration
of street lights is needed and proper maintenance
of lawns is needed also. There are heaps of
garbage at many places. The plantation of new
trees and upkeep of flower beds is badly needed.
We request the Bank authorities to kindly
undertake the maintenance of the park. We, the
regular walkers are ready to extend our helping
hand in this endeavour.

NPP leaders to stage dharna
outside Election
Commission
Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU,
Sept 29: National
Panthers Party chairman Prof Bhim Singh has said
that all the ex-legislators and other leaders of
his party would sit on hunger strike outside the
office of Election Commission of India in New
Delhi from October 6 to press for its demand of
conducting delimitation in the J&K State.
Addressing a press
conference here today, Prof Singh said Governor
J&K state can bring an ordinance for
conducting delimitation in the State but he was
just avoiding it. He said that delimitation
before the conduct of elections was mandatory in
the democratic set up and holding polls in
J&K without going for this process would be a
futile exercise.
Referring to the
deletion of over two and half lakh voters from
the electorate rolls in Jammu, Prof Singh termed
it as a conspiracy against Jammu. He said
deleting names of registered voters without their
knowledge and issuing them notice is illegal. He
said during last census in J&K in 2001, over
eleven lakh more population was shown in Kashmir
for the reasons best known to the politicians
from that region. He demanded a through probe
into the matter and urged the Election Commission
to ensure transparent conduct of democratic
exercise in the State. He said the authorities
should ensure comprehensive revision of electoral
rolls and not the revision of summary as done
recently.
Reacting to the
statement of Governor regarding delimitation,
Prof Bhim Singh said under article 370 of the
Constitution President of India can make any
amendment in consultation with the Governor.
Therefore the remarks of Mr Vohra are not
justified, Prof Singh maintained.
The NPP leader
also demanded district status for Billawar,
Akhnoor and Seot in Nowshera besides, tehsil
status for Ramkot, Basantgarh, Vijaypur, Bhamag,
Machhedi, Kandi (Hgr-Kathua), Ramgarh, Pancheri
and Khour.
