Real knowledge
Sir,
From the origin of
life on earth, the essence of human life has been
man's great thirst for knowledge. With time,
knowledge expanded and so did its utilisation.
Knoweldge is not a mere awareness of facts but it
concerns with the through understanding of
realities and its utilisation.
But extent of
knowledge is different from man to man. We can
classify man into three groups according to their
knowledge : First knowledgeable persons , who
have proper knowledge of their professional
fields. Second ignorant persons who do not have
any knowledge. Such persons can not plays a
prominent role in the society. Third, Half read
persons, who have a very superfcial knowledge of
their work.
Really, those
persons who do not have proper knowledge have
nothing in them. The third group of people
belongs to claim to be very knowledgeable. Such
persons always cut a sorry figure.
A teacher lacking
in knowledge of proper teaching may misguide his
students and ruin their future just because of
his own short comings.
An Engineer who
does not have proper knowledge of his work will
not do his job properly. Dams, Bridges, Buildings
etc constructed by such persons will infact
become unstable. In the same way, an incompetent
surgeon would play with the lives of his own
patients, a lawyer without thorough knowledge of
law would ruin his own clients. All such drastic
consequences are only due to the lack of
knowledge and its proper utilisation.
The main
conclusion one can get from this discussion is
that Never rely on those persons who are not
thorough in their professional fields because one
can protect himself from a complete mad man but
definitely not by a half skilled person by just
trusting him.

Elections
Sir,
Elections for
Assembly segments in our State have been
announced and will be held in the month of Nov.
Dec 2008 in seven phases. This has set in motion
the process of electing a democratic Govt in the
State. Elected legislators are the bridge between
the masses and the Govt.
Elections in the
State have always been viewed with interest for
different reasons. To the existing reasons one
new dimension was added by recent agitation in
Jammu. Politics might not have remained the same
after this. Once politics changes, elections
become of prime importance. The dynamics of the
elections move to an altogether different
territory. We might see promises and manifestos
suggesting heavan and the moon.
What can an
ordinary voter do in this situation. First and
the foremost he should fulfil the primary job of
casting a vote. We must turn out in a majority on
the day of voting considering it a national
responsibility. Representatives are responsible
for framming the policies and guidelines of
various development projects in the State. So the
electorates need to be vigilant to elect those
people who have a vision for the State, so that
State marches ahead in every field. People should
get aware of the manifestos of various political
parties and support the candidates who fight for
a genuine cause.

Toil and labour
Sir,
A few days ago the
people of Jammu like millions in the whole
country celebrated Vishvakarma Day. People who
toil with their hands like artisans, masons,
carpenter plumbers etc have a particular
significance on this day. However Shri
Vishvakarma who resides in the heaven and is ever
ready to construct whatever is ordered by the
Lord of the heavens. He does not belong to a
particular group but he belongs to us all.
It would have been
in the fitness of things if this day is
celebrated by all engineer, technocrats as well
as blue collar men and women all over the
country. Vishvakarma Day signifies the value of
labour, value of ingenuity and value of
commitment to a time schedule. Mythology tells us
that Shri Vishvakarma the engineer of the heavens
always completed his projects on schedule and
whatever he did was best and durable. In the
context of Vishvakarma Day a photograph was
published in this paper (Oct 30) in which the
tools used by skilled craftsmen were worshipped
in milk.
This ritual
signifies that we have to work with best
intention, with best mindset and to the best of
our capacity. The skilled craftsmen should have
best tools too. Those who work in keeping the
highest ideals of Vishvakarma in mind have to
work with even more dedication.
The civil society
on the other hand has to treat the artisans and
craftsmen with more respect and accord them their
due status that they deserve in the society. That
would be our best tribute to the engineer in
chief of the heaven, the celestial world and the
Earth.
Yours
etc...
