PK groups join hands in rejecting PM’s package

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Apr 30: In a significant development in Kashmiri Pandit politics, the two groups of Panun Kashmir (PK) today joined hands in rejecting the Prime Minister’s package announced for the migrants at Akhnoor recently.

The Panun Kashmir headed by Dr Agnishekhar and another by Dr Ajay Chrangu were unanimous in terming the Prime Minister’s package as misleading.

"This so-called package does not address any of the real problems short term or long term faced by Kashmiri Hindus" , said Dr Agnishekhar and Dr Ajay Chrungo at a press conference here, this morning. They were closeted by O N Trisal president, AKPSC and senior PK leaders Kuldeep Raina and Daya Krishen.

The PK leaders made it clear that the KPs will only return to their homeland and nothing except it will be acceptable to them.

"By reducing the issue of genocide to merely constructing a shelter in Kashmir valley that too in hostile environs, the UPA Government has displayed lack of vision confronting the larger challenges of Jihadi terrorism", said Dr Agnishekhar.

"By announcing this package the UPA Government has demonstrated its ineptitude and abject failure in comprehending the real challenges to the return of Kashmiri Hindus", said Dr Ajay Chrungo, adding " the Government seems to have completely ignored the concerns and apprehensions, Panun Kashmir raised during Round Table Conferences and Working Group meetings".

They said the package which was announced in Akhnoor caused a bad feeling against the Kashmiri Hindus rather than acting as balm on their wounds. Wittingly or unwittingly the announcement tried to pit the interests of displaced Kashmiri Hindus against aggrieved and devastated border migrants, PoK refugees or internally displaced Hindus of Jammu. This was a ploy on the part of PCC chief Saif-u-Din Soz who misled the Prime Minister to create a wedge between Kashmiri Pandits and Dogras of Jammu, they added.

They said how can the Kashmiri Pandits return to Valley when entire set up has been communalised there and situation is so grave even today that thousands of people participate in the last rites of militants.

Masoodi appointed Director DDK Srinagar

Excelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR, Apr 30: Dr Rafeeq Masoodi was today called back from his deputation in J&K Government and appointed Director of Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar. Today itself, Dr Masoodi took over as Director DDK Srinagar. This position had fallen vacant with the transfer of K C Dubey back to Radio Kashmir Jammu. Mr Dubey relieved Ms Shehzadi Simon who reached her superannuation today.

On April 20th, Dr Masoodi had completed two years of his tenure as Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages. Even as Prasar Bharti and Union I&B Ministry had earlier extended his deputation on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's request for two more years, he was recalled today and appointed as head of DDK Srinagar which has been virtually defunct after prolonged suspension of commissioning, royalty, CBR and in-house productions in the last four years.

Sources said that Chief Minister, who also happens to be the President of Cultural Academy, was reluctant to spare Dr Masoodi in view of his performance in the state government in the last two years. Prasar Bharti, however, pleaded that there was acute dearth of senior and competent officers and sensitive positions like Director DDK Srinagar could not be handled by junior officials. While Ms Simon retired today, Mr Ashraf Sahil and Ms T Angmo (two senior officials from J&K state) are due to reach superannuation in June and August 2008 respectively.

An eminent Hindi litterateur, Dr Masoodi has earlier won the prestigious Sahiyta Academy Award for his Kashmiri translation of Bhisham Sahni's famous novel Tamas. Before his two-year deputation with J&K Cultural Academy, he had served as OSD with CEO of Prasar Bharti, Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar and Director Commercial Broadcasting Service Srinagar. He is a resident of Dangiwacha village of Rafiabad in Baramulla district.
