Curb strikes
Sir,
When the whole
country is moving towards new targets of
development and when we are realigning ourselves
with global trade and commerce it is essential
that we develop a better work culture. With a
better work culture we will not be able to create
better and holistic development.
Employees and
employers have to understand that work culture
and work ethics has to be fostered and promoted.
In this context we need to understand that work
culture has to be inculcated and enforced. The
recent strikes of SRTC and clerical staff is a
pointer to this direction. State road Transport
Cooporation is a vital link that links remote
areas of the State as well as other parts of the
country. To go on a strike in this way has put
thousands of passengers at discomfort. Similarly
the strike of clerical staff too has told upon
the health of the various Governmental
Departments. Employees are without salaries and
as a result they are suffering a great deal.
It is incumbent on
the part of the Government to see the problems of
these striking employees and take corrective
steps to ensure that strikes do not take place in
such a way.
Both employees and
employers have to understand that strikes create
more trouble and hence matters should be sorted
out before hand. That is what is called good and
responsive governance.

Smuggling explosives
Sir,
The newsreport
that explosives are being smuggled in fruit
trucks packed in fruit boxes from the State to
different parts of the country need to be taken
very seriously by the Government (DE, Mar 7).
In this context
the incident of recovery two grenades in fruit
boxes in fruit market in Ahmadabad has led to the
conclusion that militants have already decided to
transfer and smuggle weapons and explosives from
Kashmir to other places. We do not know how much
explosives may already have been shifted. It is
thus highly important that militants are not
allowed to smuggle weapons and explosives to
other areas.
In view of these
developments the authorities have to take notice
to the fact that in many blasts and incidents of
terror across the country there has been a
logistic support and connection from the valley
and other parts of the State. We can not allow
the State to be used as a launching pad to do
terror activities in other parts of the country.
The strategic aim to fight terror is to confine
it to a small area and then fight it there with
full might as the security forces have been
doing, though much more needs to be done in this
regard. If terror tentacles fan out in other
areas of the country then it will be difficult to
fight the militant machine. This is their
strategy which we should counter with full might.

High Speed trains
Sir,
Transportation is
highly important in developing the country. There
has to be effective means of transportation in
order to make country developed. In this
connection trains have always played an important
role in development.
Trains have come
to the State in 1972. Since then they have helped
a great deal in the development of the State.
Train connectivity has helped in the development
of pilgrim and normal tourism in the State. On an
average we see that trains run with a speed of
seventy kilometers an hour. There are some trains
like Shatabadi which run with a speed exceeding
130 KM/L. But with the increase in number of the
people who travel to different places of the
country it is desirable that we need to have high
speed trains not only for the transportation of
passengers but also for the speedy transportation
of the goods. In these times when trade matters
more and speedy transportation of goods is a
prime necessity we should develop highspeed
networks.
The Government is
already doing its but in this direction. The
decision to increase the speed of select trains
to 160 km/h is a wise decision. This State too
has to be connected with high speed trains
keeping in view the pilgrims rush as well as
other matters into consideration.
