They need succor
Sir,
This
is in connection with the letter ''Non Camp
Refugees'' by Maj. B R Dogra published in the
paper (Feb 23). No doubt, the writer has rightly
tried to express the grievances of 'Non Camp
Refugees, Chhamb area 1971, who suffered more
than any other Displaced families.
They
suffered during 1947, 1965 and also during 1971
but have been denied any compensation for none of
their fault but only due to one reason that they
did not join camps. These families were residents
of the area given away to Pakistan under Shimla
Agreement 1972 between Govt. of India and Govt.
of Pakistan and as such they lost the hope to
return to their native place for ever. This case
deserves special attention to redress their
grievances.

Caring for wildlife
Sir,
The
heavy snowfall that lashed the mountaing areas of
the State have taken a heavy toll of life and
prosperity.
In
addition to this the snowfall has also disturbed
the wildlife of the State. Soon after the
snowfall the incidents of leopard incursions
increased in the State. They lifted cattle and
even attacked people. The reasons are simple. In
the circumstances when there is a heavy snowfall
both the prey and the breasts of prey find it
difficult to lead normal lives. In absence of
prey animals like leopard etc. have no chance but
to find for some easy pickings. Villages and
domestic animals are the best next option.
There
are reports that soon after the snowfall many
endangered birds and animals strayed into
villages. It is feared that beautiful wild birds
like Monal and pheasants have been forced to seek
shelter in the remote villages because of the
lack of food and glare of snow. These birds, the
apprehension is, have been killed or captured.
Wild life authorities have taken into custody
some leopards and wild cats. The need to the
hours is to look for the endangered bird species
and impress upon the people especially those who
live on the forest firings to handover any such
wild birds that have strayed into their
habitations. It is matter of interest that for
the fear of militants hiding in the forests
incidence of poaching has come to a halt and wild
life has registered a welcome increase. Need is
to built on the increase in numbers and take care
of the wild life.

Shiv Ratri
Sir,
In
the Sunday Edition of this paper (Mar 2) article
titled, ''Great Night of Shiva'' by Shail
Gulhatiwas published. The author has treated the
theme of Shiv Ratri in a unique way. There was a
quality of freshness in his writing.
In
this contest it is pertinent to note that Shiva
has always been held as Deva-di-deva which is
nothing but the Lord of gods. Shiva worship
traces its origin to Mohenjo-Daro where Shiva was
worshipped as Pasupati. The whole Himalyan belt
venerated Shiva as Supreme lord. As times
progressed Shiva worship reached far corners of
the country. In South, Shiva worship become so
popular that atleast two prominent Shiava
philosophies developed in South India, which are
essentially dualistic in nature.
In
Kashmir, on the other hand Shavite worship slowly
gave way to a new and elaborate system of
spiritual philosophy which is highly advanced.
Called Kashmir Shaiv Darshana, it sees the world
as a play or divine sport of Shiva. It proclaims,
"Shivo data, Shivo Bhokta, Shiva Sarvaidam
Jagatah''. That Shiva is the giver. He is the
enjoyer and He and only He is permeated in the
Universe. The philosophy makes a radical
departure from other Indian schools of thought
and stresses the need to realise our own nature
which is nothing but Shiva only. The need thus is
to create awareness about the Kashmir Shaiv
Darsan or Monistic Shaiv philosophy among the
people so that the younger generations know about
the deeply rich and incisive intellectual and
supernal appeal of this philosophy.
People
in the State have to evince kneener interest in
the Kashmir Shaiv Darshan. Shiv Ratri is a
festival of celebration but it is infact a tryst
with our own real self. As famous philosopher
Uppaldeva has rightly said that when the Sun in
the form of inhaled breath (Prana) and the Moon
in the form of exhaled breath (apana) as well as
myrid stars who represent throught constricts
set, then that night becomes Shivratri and during
this night the self shines with the radiance of
the true knowledge.
May
Lord Shiva bestow upon us blessings so that peace
and prosperity, is returned. May we all become
better citizens and good human beings.
Yours etc...
