A great victory

I

Sir,

Team India has proved that it is second to none in the world. After two defeats it was very difficult for the team to win at Perth. But they played like a unit. They wanted to prove that they can do the impossible. This victory has proved that our team can play the best cricket possible.

The victory at Perth was a team victory. Every body contributed. Batsman and bowlers did a commendable job. R P Singh, Irfan Pathan and young Ishan Sharma showed a quality display of swing bowling. Australians had no answer. To beat the world campions at Perth in only four days is a great achievement. Truly it is a great victory. If the team plays in the same way then nobody will stop them. Our first aim should to win the Adelaide test so that we square up the series. Then we should win the Tri-Nation cup which will be played after the test series.

A lesson for all of us is that if we stand united nobody can beat us. Unity is important whether in play or otherwise. This victory calls of nation wide cerebration.

Sir,

All is well that ends well. India’s victory on Perth is victory of Cricket. In Sydney, umpiring was pathetic and totally biased. There was a strong public opinion in whole Indian Sub-Continent that Indian team should boycott rest of the matches. But in the interest of cricket BCCI didn’t do it. Australians should realize that no team is unbeatable. India and Pakistan are capable of beating Australia in Australian soil.

Cricket in Indian sub continent is not just a game but certainly more than that. It has become a part of life. Children grow up listening, watching and hearing about cricket. Cricket players become Heros and villains overnight with one win or defeat. We should not forget that Cricket is a game where track record doesn’t help much. Only that team wins which displays the best on that particular day. The problem in India and Pakistan is that players these days are more concerned about their brand image and not about the country. Hats off to Indian cricket team for their superb performance in Perth Test match. Still there is no denying the fact that Australian team is still the best cricketing team in the world.

Real Education

Sir,

Our nation is progressing by leaps and bounds. India is emerging as an economic super power. In few decades time we shall become one of the most important countries of the world. Predictions are that by 2025 our country will be the third largest economy in the world after USA and China.

Sadly, the same progress is not seen in the moral life of the people of the nation. Morally it seems that we are degrading day by day. There are growing incidents of crime, scams, rapes, murders and corruption. What has happened to this society of ours? Where are our great Gurus? Why has the moral character faded? Why have crimes risen? Who is at fault? These question haunt us every day. No doubt that parents are spending lavishly on their children. But we do not bother to ensure that our children receive moral education.

In this regard educational institutions are imparting quality education but his education is not mated to the human and moral aspects of education. We turn our children into materialistic machines with no human heart. The job of educational institutions is to provide moral education to the students alongside contemporary education. The role of elders and parents is not less important. Parents have to become a model before their children so that they are inspired to do something better in their lives. To save future of humanity we need to impart real education to our children.

Forest fires

Sir,

A news report was published in this paper (Jan 20) about vast areas of forest being burnt in last three years. The report was specific that about forty four kilometers of forest land was burnt down in the State.

It is an open secret that forest have not only been mercilessly cut down but looted to such a level that there has been a furore over the conditions of forest in the state in the Assembly. Many of rest officers are indicated in loot of the green gold. There is a talk that many higher ups and even ministers are not clean in this issue.

The news report has detailed over the hundreds of fire incidents in the forests of the State which are touching one thousand in number in the last three years. It has been estimated that nearly one lakh cubic feet of timber has gutted in these fires, valued at crores of rupees. These incidents have occurred despite the fact that Forest Department has created fire lines in hilly areas, established control rooms, watch owners and engaged fire watchers. Does it mean that even though such things are in place yet these are not being utilised properly. To check these menacing forest fires the department has to taken over the problem minutely. Better care has to be taken so that such incidents of forest fires do not destroy whatever is left of the forests in the State. A strategy needs to be put in place which will ensure that forest are not only preserved but new forests are grown in the denuded forest lands so that we leave something for our children and grand children.
