demonstration in front of
Relief
Commissioners
Office and Panun Kashmir
led by Dr Ajay Chrangoo
organised a meeting at
Janipur to observe the
Holocaust Day.
The
activists of United Forum
assembled at Rajinder
Park where the
Shradhanjali tune
compiled by Athwas was
played as a mark of
respect to martyrs, the
music of which was
composed by Kuldeep
Saproo.
The
programme was conducted
by V K Kashkari, vice
president ASKPC which was
presided over by
president AIKPC, H N
Jattu. Others who
addressed included
Ashwani Chrungoo,
president PKM, H L Chatta
general secretary, ASKPC,
Ravinder Koul of J&K
Minority Forum, Ajay
Bharti of Displaced Hindu
Youth Forum, Non camp

Later a
rally was taken to Raj
Bhawan from Rajinder Park
where a demonstration was
held. A memorandum on
charter of demands was
submitted to Governor by
a delegation of the Forum
which among other things
stressed on special
package for unemployed
youth, monetary benefits
to the bifurcated ration
card holders, shifting of
Battal Ballian Camp to
Jammu and enhancement of
relief to Rs 6000.

Rich
tributes were paid to
martyrs who laid down
their lives for the
national integration.
They termed the January
19, 1990 a black spot on
the secularism of India.
The demonstrators also
burnt the effigy of
terrorists,
fundamentalists and anti-
national elements.
The KP
leaders, while justifying
the demand of the youth
said it is shameful on
the part of Government to
force the KP youth to
resort to agitation.
The demanded
immediate redressal of
the demand of displaced
youth regarding sanction
of relief for the
bifurcated ration card
holders who are on chain
hunger strike for last 40
days.
To observe
Holocaust Day PK held a
meeting at Janipur under
the prsidentship of its
chairman, Dr Ajay
Chrungoo. O N Trisal,
president AKPSC, Kuldeep
Raina, general secretary,
PK and Shalinder Aima
were among the prominent
speakers. The meeting
resolved to deepen the
understanding amongst
people of India about the
menace of Islamic
terrorism. The
participants also
resolved to ally with all
such forces who are
battling the scourage of
terrorism.
It also
underlined the urgent
necessity to recognize
the dangers of growing
communalism and
Talibanisation of the
society and politics of
Kashmir Valley.
In
connection with
observance of Holocaust
Day meetings were also
organised by Jammu and
Kashmir Secular Front at
different places here,
today. The meetings were
chaired by V N Sathu,
chief patron of the
organization.
It after
paying rich tributes to
martyrs of the community
demanded that Kashmiri
Hindu religious places
Bill be introduced in
Assembly, employment
package for unemployed
youth and relief benefits
to bifurcated ration card
holders.
Kashmiri
Sikh Displaced Forum held
a meeting at Shastri
Nagar under the
chairmanship of S Kishan
Chander Singh Mehta. It
was also addressed by S
Harmohinder Singh general
secretary of of the
organisation. It strongly
condemned the killing of
a member of Sikh
community who was
honestly discharging his
duties in FCI at village
Chan Sama, Baramulla. It
demanded a CBI probe into
the killing. The meeting
also expressed its total
solidarity with Kashmiri
Pandits who as well as
members of Sikh community
became the victims of
terrorism.
Non Camp
Migrants held a meeting
at Durga Nagar under the
leadership of P L Sudeshi
its president in which
the sacrifices of KP
martyrs were recalled.
The meeting blamed the
Government for the
present plight of the
Pandits. Among others the
meeting was addressed by
chairman of the
organization, D N Kissu,
B B Gosani general
secretary BJP Migrant
Cell and Prof. G .L Koul.
Another
function was held by JKVM
at Battal Ballian Camp ,
Udhampur under the
chairmanship of Dr Ramesh
Bhat. The meeting paid
rich tributes to martyrs.
It also held an
interaction session with
the students of Sharda
Niketan and shared the
plight of community with
them.
Later in a
meeting of camp inmates
it was demanded that
displaced Pandits be
given their due share in
employment and economic
welfare schemes. It also
urged the Government to
frame a economic
rehabilitation programme
for displaced Pandits.

Ji and Mr Lolabi.
The Kashmir
Pandits putting up in
Delhi observed the
Holocaust Day as Black
Day.

ASKPC wore black badges
and head gears. Besides
they put off the lights
of their houses from 5 pm
to 6pm to symbolize this
day as ablack day.
The ASKPC
leaders also apprised the
youngsters about the
dreadful event which
culminated in the exodus.
They also threw light on
the ground reality of
Kashmir and nefarious
designs of anti-national
elements and exposed the
role played by their
defenders and masters.

Family
ransacks theatre, damages ambulances
Protest against negligent
death of woman, baby

RAJOURI, Jan 19: Agitated
over the alleged negligent death of a
young woman and her baby in operation
theatre of the Rajouri district hospital
last night, family members and
neighbourers caused damage to the
hospital property including two
ambulances, operation theatre and the
furniture.
The
problem occurred at around 1.30 am
(midnight) when Dr Umesh Gandotra and Dr
Bashir Ahmed of the Rajouri district
hospital operated upon 30-year-old,
Rehmat Bi, wife of Mohd Rafi, resident of
Ward No.7, Rajouri town after she was
brought to hospital with Labour pains.
The
doctors claimed that both the mother and
baby could not be saved due to excessive
bleeding during operation.
About a
dozen family members and friends and some
neighbourers of the victims were also
there in the hospital.
They had
also arranged blood as required by the
doctors. After the death they turned
violent. They allegedly beat up some
staff members and ransacked operation
theatre, furniture and caused damage to
the two ambulances and a vehicle parked
in the hospital premises. They alleged
that woman and baby died due to the
negligence of doctors.
The
doctors and some staff members escaped
sensing trouble. A police party led by
DySP P S Jasrotia reached the hospital.
He pacified the agitated family members
and assured inquiry.
The CMO
Rajouri assured that a three member
committee will be formed to conduct
inquiry into the matter. Strong
resentment was brewing among the public
for the increasing number of alleged
negligent death cases in district Rajouri
hospitals.
Azad
pays glowing tributes to Imam Hussain
(RA)

JAMMU, Jan 19: Chief
Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has paid
glowing tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain
(RA), the martyr of Karbala who, 14
centuries ago, sacrificed his life along
with those of his companions for
upholding truth and righteousness.
On
Ashoora-e-Muharram, commemorating the
martyrdom of the beloved grandson of
Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Mr. Azad said
that Imam Hussain (RA) and his worthy
companions who comprised infants, aged
and women, had set a shining example of
sacrificing their lives for the sake of
truth, virtue and justice.
The
Chief Minister said that the martyrdom of
Hazrat Hussain (RA) was an eternal lesson
for mankind not to deviate from the path
of righteousness, whatever be the
consequences.
He said in
the face of extreme odds and merciless
enemy who used all conceivable methods of
torture and cruelty, Imam Hussain (RA),
his family and companions did not deviate
from their chosen path of standing up
against the evil. By writing with their
blood the saga of righteousness against
the evil, they have become immortal and
would continue to live in the hearts of
each human being who followed the path of
virtue.
Owners
of 8 brick kilns booked

JAMMU, Jan 19: Department
of Legal Metrology today booked owners of
eight brick-kilns in Akhnoor and R S Pura
areas for selling under size bricks. A
total of 19 lakh such bricks were seized
from the kilns.
An
official spokesman said that officers of
Legal Metrology Department conducted
raids on 15 brick kilns in Akhnoor and R
S Pura areas and booked owners of eight
kilns under different provisions of
J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement
Act, 1997 for selling under size bricks.
During the
raids, it also came to the fore that at
some kilns stock of bricks was withheld
to create scarcity of bricks and selling
the same at exorbitant rates.
The
spokesman said that the Minister for
Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution
Taj Mohi-ud-Din received several
complaints from different quarters
regarding overcharging by the brick kiln
owners.
Though the
Controller General of Prices (Deputy
Commissioner has fixed Rs 1749 for one
thousand "B" class bricks yet
the investigation by the enforcement team
revealed that these bricks were being
sold at Rs 2200 to Rs 2700 that too under
size.
The raids
were conducted by teams headed by Deputy
Controller Legal Metrology Amar Singh and
Executive Magistrate First Class Manoj
Prabhakar under the supervision of
Commissioner Secretary CAPD Khalid Habib.
BBIA
delegation interacts with Power Minister

JAMMU, Jan 19: A deputation of
Bari Brahmana Industries Association
(BBIA) led by its president, Annil Suri,
along with other office bearers met the
Power Minister Babu Singh today.
Various
problems confronted by Industrial unit
holders due to erratic power supply, poor
quality of power supply and wrong
billings were highlighted before the
Minister by Annil Suri who stated that
the none has been made accountable for
all the lapses by the Department.
BBIA
president stated further that the erring
officials of PDD were not taking the
issue seriously due to which
industrialists were facing huge financial
losses.
The
Minister was requested that authorities
responsible for supply and maintenance of
power supply should be held accountable
for repeated power break-downs.
The
Minister was informed that during the
month of December 2007, over 30 percent
of working hours were lost due to power
cuts, while in the month of January the
industry has suffered 17 hours
unscheduled power in addition to 56 hours
scheduled curtailment so far.
The BBIA
has sought personal intervention of the
Power Minister into the matter for taking
necessary action so that sufferings of
the industry due to erratic power supply
could be mitigated.
The Power
Minister took a strong note and issued on
spot instructions to redress the problems
of industrialists.
Two
women injured, two houses damaged

SRINAGAR, Jan 19: Two women
were injured and as many houses damaged
due to strong winds in south Kashmir,
official sources said.
They said
after snowfall, strong winds hit the
Kokernag in Anantnag district damaging
one Reyaz Ahmads house completely
at Watnad village. His wife and daughter
were also injured.
Another
house of one Abdul Majid was also damaged
in the incident, they said, adding the
injured were admitted to a hospital.

"Birds of Northern
India" at GCW Parade

Women (GCW) Parade organized a
lecture on the topic "Birds
of Northern India" at
college here today.
Dr.
O P Sharma, Director State
Research Institute delivered the
lecture and dwelt at length over
the eco-sensitive aspects of
different species of birds. He
also explained the importance of
birds in the ecosystem.
Meanwhile,
Sharma on the behalf of his
institute agreed to sponsor the
forthcoming "Foliage
Competition" to be held on
February 5 in the college.
Also
speaking, Principal Prof. Usha
Jayee appreciated the activities
being undertaken by Science Club
to inculcate scientific
temperament among the students.

Manhasan in Jammu.

attended the meet and also
elected representatives of their

also attended by staff, members
of management and students.

colourful cultural programme was
presented by the students to mark

general secretary while Sapna

Acute
shortage of water in Jammu West

activists stage protest
demonstration at B C Road

Conference activists alongwith
the residents of several Jammu
West localities including
Janipur, Indira Colony, Lakad
Mandi, Prem Nagar, Jawahar Nagar,
Roop Nagar, Patoli, Krishna Nagar
and Bakshinagar held massive
protest demonstration outside the
office of Chief Engineer PHE at
BC Road here today.
The
protest programme was organised
by the Jammu District (Urban)
Committee of National Conference
under the leadership of Chander
Mohan Sharma. The NC workers were
shouting slogans against PHE
authorities, Minister incharge
PHE and the Chief Minister Ghulam
Nabi Azad. They continued their
protest for some time and then
they sat on dharna in the PHE
office premises. The NC workers
also burnt the effigy of PHE
Minister.
While
addressing protest dharna Chander
Mohan Sharma, alleged that water
supply situation has deteriorated
considerably in Jammu west
constituency especially in
Janipur, New Plot, Lakad Mandi,
Indira Colony, Basant Nagar, Roop
Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Patoli and
Ploura. The Government was
sleeping over the matter. Sitlee
water plant could not be restored
till today and the
Governments claims have
proved hollow. He alleged that
water supply is not being
provided daily and the water is
released just for ten to fifteen
minutes and the flow of water
pressure is very poor as it may
take half an hour to fill a
bucket. The people are feeling
cheated and there is no control
on the field staff as no
monitoring for supply is done by
the Supervisors, JEs or the AEEs
of the concerned Sub Divisions.
The people are suffering a lot
and Government has failed to
provide drinking water to the
public. The Government has no
right to collect revenue from the
consumers as it is unable to
provide water.
The
NC leader stressed upon the
Government to ensure that Sitlee
Filtration plant is started at
the earliest so that water supply
is improved. Other NC leaders
Sucha Singh, Rachpal Singh and
Rakesh Kumar who also spoke on
the occasion.
Establishment of
Ambedkar Chair in JU sought

India Confederation of SC/ST/ OBC
Organizations has passed a
resolution for demanding the
establishment of a Chair in the
name of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao
Ambedkar in University of Jammu
(JU).
In
a meeting of the confederation
held under the chairmanship of R
K Kalsotra, the resolution was
passed and decided to urge the
competent authority through Vice
Chancellor Prof. Amitabh Mattoo
for establishing the Chair in the
university.
Remembering
Dr. Ambedkar, Kalsotra said he
was a literary genius and eminent
educationist, a dynamic
personality, an able
parliamentarian and also an
illustrious architect of Indian
Constitution. The confederation
strongly urged the Vice
Chancellor to make immediate
necessary action to redress the
genuine demand and honour the
Father of India Constitution.

Babu
Singh inspects Chenani hydro
electric project

JAMMU, Jan 19 : The
Minister of State for Power Mr.
Babu Singh inspected Chenani
Hydro Electric project stage-1
and II on river Tawi. This
project was dedicated to the
nation by the then Prime Minister
Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1971.He
said that project which stopped
its functioning in 2005 would be
made functional on priority.
He
directed Managing Director Power
Development Corporation to
immediately release Rs. 81 lakh
for desiltation and other repair
works of the canal of this
project.
The
Minister said that in order to
meet the growing demand of the
power of the consumers of the
State it was imperative to
restore the project. The total
capacity of project is 23.3 MW.
He also asked them to replace the
old machinery to ensure the
project commissioned by mid of
March this year.
He
said that power is most essential
factor for the development of
industries which are fast growing
in the State. He said that
electricity consumption is also
increasing day by day with the
frequent use of electric gadgets.
He also impressed upon the
engineers to remain vigilant and
check power pilferage and
tampering of meters.
Later,
the Minister also visited the
site where the new tunnel is
being made and checked the
material being used for it and
urged engineers to use quality
material.
The
Chief Engineer in-formed the
Minister that the total cost of
project is Rs. 737 lakh of which
Rs. 501.72 lakh have been
incurred so far. He was also
informed that boring work on 718
meter long D-shape tunnel has
been completed.
Several
deputations also met the Minister
at Dakbanglow in Udhampur and
highlight the problems faced by
them. The Minister gave patient
hearing and said that these would
be looked into.
The
Minister was accompanied by
District Development Commissioner
O. P. Kalandria, MD JKPDC S. K.

Sikh Council for
opening of Jammu-Sialkot road

JAMMU, Jan 19: J&K
Sikh Council has demanded opening
of Jammu-Sialkot road so that
Sikh migrated to this side could
visit their shrines in Pakistan.
Talking
to reporters here Council
president Harmohinder Singh
stressed for the strong Indo-Pak
relations for bringing peace in
south Asia. The Council demanded
immediate opening of
Jammu-Sialkot road to facilitate
the Sikh pilgrims, PoK refugees
and the Muslims families divided
during 1947 could visit Pakistan
and PoK areas and also visit the
shrines on that sides.
The
Council criticized the
authorities for favouritism while
providing travel documents via
Chakkan Da Bagh or
Uri-Muzaffrabad route. It
regretted that files of many Sikh
families were kept pending due to
the reason known to the
authorities. It also demanded
amendment in Article 25 of Indian
Constitution besides seeking
approval to Anand Marriage Act as
accorded in Pakistan.
Opposing
division of J&K on communal
or regional lines the Council
said that autonomy, self-rule,
trifurcation, bifurcation or
self-determination were not
acceptable to them. The Council
only favours reorganization of
J&K on population and area
basis. A Financial Commission be
set up to monitor and ensure
equal development of all the
three regions of the State. It
also demanded appointment of four
Sikh legislators among the 24
seats reserved for PoK under
J&K Constitution.

Party holds meeting at Hiranagar

convention of Hiranagar and
Billawar constituencies, chairman
of the Jammu Kashmir National
Panthers Party appea-led the
people to sacrifice the year 2008
for the sake of their children
and future of Jammu.
Others
who addressed the convention
included Harsh Dev Singh,
Advocate Bansi Lal Sharma, Yash
Pal Kundal and H C Jalmeria
besides Ravinder Pathania,
Raghubir Singh Thakur, Ashok
Kumar etc.
Speaking
on the occasion Harsh Dev Singh
termed Congress-PDP coalition
Gover-nment as most corrupt,
inefficient, non-performing and
anti-people. He said Panthers
Party would continue its tirade
against the Government to to
ensure that justice was delivered
to every home. He appealed the
people to support Panthers Party
so that next Government could be
formed by it which alone can
fulfill the aspirations of the
three regions of the State.
Advocate
Bansi Lal Sharma, who spent
several years in jail for the
cause of people of Jammu region,
called upon the youth and
students to unite irrespective of
their party affiliations and
support Panthers Party so that
their genuine aspirations could
met a logical end.
Over
200 prominent people of Hiranagar
joined the National Panthers
Party and all were welcomed into
the party fold by its chairman
Prof Bhim Singh.
ABVP calls off
week long stir

UDHMAPUR, Jan 19:The Akhil
Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad
(ABVP) has called off its
week-long stir against the
commercial use of Mini Stadium
Udhampur, which was being held in
front of stadium.
Today,
a delegation of ABVP had a
meeting with DDC Udhampur, O P
Kalandria to sort the issue. The
delegation was led by Pawan
Sharma, national executive member
of ABVP.
In
the meeting, Pawan Sharma sought
an immediate end to the
commercial use of stadium, which
was hindering promotion of sports
in the area. The DDC gave a
patient hearing to the delegation
and assured them of conceding
their demand soon. On which, the
stir was called off by the
agitating activists.
Earlier
in the day, the activists led by
Mann Singh continued their
protest and even closed the gate
of stadium wherein an exhibition
was being held.

stages demonstration, torches
effigy of ministers

activists of Bharatiya Janata
Yuva Morcha (BJYM) held a
demonstration here at Kachi
Chawni Chowk, today and torched
the effigy of the ministers of
State Government who were
involved in different scams and
scandals and were chargesheeted
by the Accountability Commission.
The
demonstration was led by BJYM,
district president, Pranav Gupta.
Addressing the demonstrators Mr
Gupta demanded dismissal of all
those ministers who are facing
corruption charges and
registering of criminal cases
against them.
He
said the people of J&K
trusted these ministers who in
turn looted the state exchequer.
He
listed the names of all those
ministers and MLAs who are
involved in various corruption
cases and demanded immediate
action against them.
He
also termed the slogan of the
Chief Minister to declare the war
against corruption totally hollow
and accused him of shielding the
corrupt ministers and
legislators.
The
demonstration was also addresed
by Rakesh Dogra, vice president
BJYM, Vikrant Singh, Neeraj
Chowdhary, general secretaries,
Sanjeev Khajuria, secretary and
others.
Non-teaching
colleges employees hold meet

JAMMU, Jan 19: Well
attended meetings of non-teaching
employees were held in all the
degree colleges located in Jammu
city under the aegis of All
J&K Colleges Non-Teaching
Employees Association wherein it
was decided to observe mass
casual leave on January 22 in
protest against
non-implementation of the
agreement held between
Association and Higher Education
Authorities.
Later
in a general body meeting of
non-teaching employees held at
GGM Science College, the speakers
strongly criticized the higher
education authorities for failing
to implement the agreement
reached between the Government
and the Association, which was to
be rectified and implemented in
four months but despite lapse of
over seven months nothing
concrete was visible on the
ground.
The
meeting held that it was left
with no option than to agitate to
get the legitimated demands
conceded by the Government. The
most genuine demands of Colleges
non-teaching staff included UGC
pay scale to clerical cadre from
January 1, 1996, filling up of
500 vacancies in newly created
Degree Colleges, and waiving off
of Secretariat training bar for
aged Senior Assistants for
promotion to the post of Head
Assistant.
A
large number of trade union
leaders of the Joint Action
Committee participated in the
meeting and expressed resolve to
continue the struggle till the
goal was achieved.

well-known theatre group to
spread awareness about social
issues through the medium of
humorous street plays, especially
in rural areas.
The
series of street plays being
organized by Airtel through
Natrang under director Balwant
Thakur highlights the issues of
child marriage among girls and
lack of zeal to get the girl
child educated, at various places
in Jammu district.
To
drive the message effectively,
"Suno Ek Kahani", a
play in Dogri language by Natrang

her parents are adamant on
getting her married talks about
aspirations of a girl child. They
choose a groom for her but a
police team, which reaches on the
spot and warns the parents of
dire consequences, eventually
rescues her. They also apprise
that child marriage was a crime
as per law. The highlight remains
the depiction of the fact through
humorous sequences that were very
well taken by the huge audience.
The
series of plays by Airtel was
inaugurated by organizing first
play at Vijaypur which received
overwhelming response, followed
by Samba and Manwal. Vishal
Sehgal Chief Operating Officer,
Bharti Airtel J&K circle and
other officials besides eminent
citizens of the area witnessed
the play. The play will also be
staged at various other places
like Basholi and Billawar.

Power
shut down in Jammu areas

JAMMU, Jan
19: Power supply to
several localities of Jammu and
parts of district Samba will
remain affected on January 21.
A
PDD spokesman said that in view
of some urgent work at Gladini
Power station, electricity supply
to Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar,
Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar,
Gangyal, Greater Kailash,
Residency Road, Canal, Rajinder
Bazar, Gujjar Nagar, Jullaka
Mohalla, Jain Bazar, Panjtirthi,
Pirmitha, Nagrota, Bhatindi,
Channi Himmat, Sainik Colony and
part of Janipur, R S Pura,
Bishnah, Kalakot and
Rajouri-Poonch shall remain
affected from 12 noon to 3 pm on
January 21 (Monday).
The
power supply shall also remain
affected from 9 am to 5 pm on
Monday in view of some urgent
work on 132 KV D/C
Hiranagar-Gladini transmission
line. The affected areas will be
Bari Brahmana, Gangyal, Vijaypur,
Kartholi, Smailpur, Raya, Gurha
Sarore, Jakh, Rahiyan, Sumb,
Samba, Industrial area Samba and
other adjoining areas.
