JAMMU, Jan 18: Entire
Opposition today created massive uproar
in the Lower House and staged walk-out
after the Government stirred
hornets nest by announcing a
proposal to engage retired Tehsildars on
the posts of Tehsildars and Naib
Tehsildars lying vacant for the past
quite long time. The Opposition termed
the proposal an attempt to encourage
back-door appointments and depriving
unemployed youth of the Government jobs....more
Moharram mourners clash

SRINAGAR, Jan 18: Even as
licensee of the 8th Moharram main Alam
and Tazia procession in Srinagar,
Yadgaar-e-Hussaini Committee Gurubazar,
remained mute to the Government's
decision of not granting permission to
the religious rally, scores of religious
and separatist political activists
dismissed the same as "intervention
in the matters of faith" and clashed
with Police in Civil Lines in the capital
city today. Police used force in
retaliation and detained over a hundred
people for several hours for violating
