Shiv Khori Shrine
Sir,
A news report was
published in this paper (Jan 10) about the
intention of the Govt. to create Shiv Khori
Shrine Board for the development of Shiv Khori
Shrine in Reasi.
The Board as per
the news report will be named as Shri Shiv Khori
Shrine Board (SSKSB). The decision of the Govt is
full of good intentions and we must congratulate
the Govt on this decision. Shiv Khori is a shrine
dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Shrine is unique
cave shrine with an ancient history. Recent years
have seen a steep rise in the number of pilgrims
visiting this shrine. Already at least more than
three lakh visitors visit the shrine. By
conventional estimates it means that about one
thousand pilgrims visit the shrine per day. That
really call for the setting up of a Shrine Board.
It is hoped that
the rush of pilgrims to the Shrine will go higher
in the coming years. People from many states and
even other countries are now trickling in the
shrine. The Shiv Khori Shrine Board will
definitely help a great deal to create better
infastructure around the famous shrine. This
Shrine needs a good road. People who want to stay
for a night have to be provided with
accommodation. Parking facilities have to be
created. When the Board will start functioning
these things will be taken into account. The
establishment of the Shiv Khori Shrine Board will
help the youth of the area to get gainful
employment in the various developmental works to
be undertaken by Shiv Khori Shrine Board. We look
forward to the day when Shiv Khori will be a
highly developed pilgrimage centre of the State.
Yours etc...

Small is beautiful
Sir,
A famous
philosopher famously once said-small is
beautiful. With the launch of Nano the latest and
little subcompact car from the Tata stable has
all the trappings of this famous saying. Nano has
switched on a dream in the eyes of millions of
Indians. It is as historical as was the first
assembly line production of Model T by Henary
Ford, or when a German car maker produced the
worlds most famous people's car named Beetle. On
the day when Nano was to be launched the whole
world watched with avid interest. And finally
when the moment came, Nano, like a little cute
baby driven by Rattan Tata himself rolled a few
meters cheekily on the stage. Cameras clicked,
people looked with eyes glued to the one lakh
wonder. The media called Nano 'Lakhtakia'. Right
from New York to Sydney rare reviews appeared
about Nano. Its launch proved to be a global
event and more satisfying was the fact that India
was the centre of this global event.
Tatas have
fulfilled their promise. The car has a price tag
of one lakh rupees. Add another twenty five
thousand in the shape of tax, insurance and
accessories. That is for the base model. For
higher end models you may have to pay Rs. 1.5
lakh. Nano it is claimed will be better than
Maruti 800. It will have 21% more space and
better millage. The small car market is on fire.
Tatas will export this car to huge markets in
China, Indonesia etc. The car looks cute, But the
actual winner is the customer. All say, Nano
Nainen Ko Bhaiye.

Adieu to Hillary
Sir,
On 11th of January
passed away one of the most famous expeditioner
of modern times. Edmund Hillary, the man who
conquered Everest passed away quietly in New
Zealand, his home country. Though he was eighty
eight we would have liked to see more of him. His
chubby face and smiling visage was a source of
inspiration to many people.
That fateful day
in the month of May 1953 when Sir Edmund Hillary
with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the world's
top summit and people did not believe. Before
them Everest had beaten back many a brave and
redoubtable mountaineers. There are speculations
that Mallory and Andrew Irvine had perhaps
reached the summit in 1924 but then they never
returned. A few years ago their dead bodies were
found on South Col at a height of 28000 feet.
Many people died while trying to reach Everest.
But the luck ultimately smiled on Tenzing and
Hillary. The queen of UK was to be coronated. She
received the news of the conquest of Everest . It
was her coronation gift.
Sir Hillary was
not to sit back on his Everest laurels. He lead
many expeditions to North and South pole. His
Ganga expedition to find the source of Ganga will
be remembered for a long time. He was a man with
a golden heart. His heart was always with the
people of Nepal. He did a lot of social service
there. He built schools, hospitals, etc in Nepal.
In India he was treated like a hero. He would
come here quite often. In New Zealand he was a
national Icon. With his death we have lost a
great expeditioner and a historic personality. A
great saga of romance and love with mountains and
Himalayas has come to an end. A hero has passed
away to meet his creator in heavens.
Yours etc...
