Driving skills
Sir,
Driving reflects
your personality. It is not only a habit with
many people but with them it is an art.
Definitely such people are small in number. But
that is not surprising at all. All good things
are rarer and better human beings are a rarity
too. But we would like to have this rarity turn
more common. Because of the simple reason that
driving better means less blood letting on the
roads. Who would not like it ? But as they say,
good things come natural and they are not
injected.
Agreed, Hundred
percent. But we cannot afford to rest pretty
peacefully on sayings alone. The situation is bad
as far as driving skills or habits are concerned.
The city is witnessing an auto revolution. Roads,
lanes, side streets are choc-a-block with cars
and vehicles. Imagine what would happen when the
one lakh Tata car hits the market. A nightmare of
sorts will be ensured on the roads. Under such
difficult situations we need to hone and upgrade
our driving skills. It is not difficult. We need
to do some talking with ourselves. While driving
we can easily avoid side remarks passed at us by
other drivers or pedestrians. Some say that the
faster we drive the early we reach our worker
stations. This argument is specious. Faster
driving means faster braking and frequent change
of gears. With no road open for long stretches it
is better to drive slower. It means lesser fuel
consumption and more importantly more safer
journey. Believe me if we drive safely nothing
will happen on the roads. The rate of traffic
accidents in which lives are lost and limbs and
mauled will considerably come down. A slower and
safer driving is not prosaie but a delight.
In the end it
needs to be emphasised that to purchase a car is
good but to drive it safely is more important,
whether there are traffic cops around or not. Let
us give a deep thought to it.

Venerable Guru
Sir,
In the Sunday
Edition of this paper (6 Jan) an article was
published on the front page titled, 'The
resplendent Guru' by Hardeep Singh.
In this context I
would like to submit that the article was well
written and very rightly conveyed the essence of
the sacrifice. of the great Guru. The conclusion
of the article was highly well written. May
congratulations to the author. Such articles when
carried around the dates that pertain to great
personalities not only become highly topical but
also help to convey the message of brotherhood
and tolerance.
We see in the
present times an all-around decay of the moral
and social values. Old value system as taught by
the great prophets and Gurus of the country have
been under pressure. Very few people talk about
such things like sacrifice upliftment of poor
people, trust etc. The rampant materialism
espoused by us has taken out the values that were
cherished by us in the past. The reason is that
we are seeing a total decay of our social and
moral fabric. Man has turned only a machine and
nothing else. We only programme our children how
to earn in life. We forget to teach them the
right means of earning. Our education is centered
around the concept of perks and salaries. We fail
to recognise that the real education is how to
liberate ourselves of the ignorance and how to
foster peace and amity. May the great Guru bestow
upon us the power to change ourselves for the
better.
