Stop smoking
Sir,
Many habits die
hard. Especially when these habits are on the
wrong side of the line dividing good from the
evil. It may be a debating point that what is
evil and what is good. Because those people who
do not want to change for the better would always
say that there is no permanent good or permanent
evil. It sounds like a Marxist logic. But after
all there has to be something which we call good.
That good is not transitory or temporary but it
remains valid for all claims and all people. What
we call good habit is that which is pleasing to
duplicate. Which does not harm any body and that
which has the sanction of a very large segment of
society. In otherwords which is pleasing to
everybody and does not cause any harm to one self
as well as to others. In this context the evil
habit of smoking is one such habit that does not
only harm the person who indulges in smoking but
it harms the persons who are also around the
person who indulges in smoking.
To take care of
health is one of the very basic rights of man. It
does not matter that whether it has
constitutional validity or not. But the thing
that is important is that smoking is a menace
that we need to tackle. Young people and boys
have been seen to indulge in smoking which is
highly dangerous to young people. Parents,
teachers and law enforcement agencies have to
realise that they can yield great influence on
the young minds. Smoking has to stop otherwise it
will destroy the health of the society.

Combating corruption
Sir,
Almost daily we
hear and read on the print and electronic media
about the cases of corruption in the State. It is
now a routine matter to carry news and hear or
read about the corruption prevalent in the State.
It seems that as if it has become our second
nature.
If some thing
odius and sinister becomes our second nature then
it is not too difficult to surmise that what
would be the future of the State in which such
people live and practise life in the above
mentioned way. Offcouse when a very large number
of people in a State follow the wrong and
unethical way of life then it is quite natural on
the part of the common and ordinary citizens of
this State to feel concerned. In almost all
fields of activity we have been seeing that the
infection of corruption is infecting almost all
the activities of civil life. Name anything in
the world and you are not satisfied that it has
been done or executed as per the rules.
Commission is now a normal feature. Contractors
keep a set percentage of the contract amount for
the office employees, engineers and other people.
Otherwise if one
lives on his pay he cannot built huge palatial
houses, have a fleet of luxurious cars, wear
diamonds and have large amount of liquid assets.
Only corruption can assure such life. We must do
a talking with ourselves. Give a deep thought to
what we do. When our hearts crave for a better
change. Such unethical things would end only
then.

Pak developments
Sir,
Developments in
Pakistan who is our immediate neighbour are a
cause for worry for the people of this country.
The reasons is not difficult to surmise. There is
a perceptible sense of uncertainty in the
subcontinent. The script of this uncertainty has
as usual been scripted in Pakistan.
The terror
infrastructure created by Pakistan. ISI and
militants backed and supported morally and
materially by Pakistani military has created
problems for all the countries in the
subcontinent. India has been facing the onslaught
of terrorism for the last three decades. First it
was in Punjab and then it is in Kashmir where
militancy has been going on for the last two
decades. Now the militancy has spilled over the
other parts of the country courtesy Pak terror
infrastructure.
India has always
been raising its pitch against the terror machine
that is running full steam in Pakistan but till
date nobody in Pakistan has realised the concern
of India regarding the terrorism. But now this
Frankenstein Monaster has been staring the host
country on its face. The events in Pakistan
suggest that the terror giant has gone out of
control. The forces of evil grow out of control.
The killing of Benazir is a pointer towards this
direction. Now the whole polity of Pak is
pigmented. People are angry at the turn of
events. The most charismatic leaders of Pakistan
has been laid low. The events in that country are
not conducive to peace for lasting peace that
country has to unfold the mechanism of terror
once for all. That shall augur well for Pakistan
as well as for all the heighbouring nations as
well.
