ANC may
contest Assembly polls
Coalition
proved to be worst ever in
J&K: Shah
Excelsior
Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 22: Jammu and
Kashmir Awami National Conference
(ANC) headed by former Chief
Minister, G M Shah described the
present PDP-Congress dispensation
as the worst ever in the State
and alleged that there was no end
to the Human Rights violations in
Kashmir.
Addressing
a press conference here today,
convenor of the Party Muzaffar
Shah (GM Shahs son) said
that Party has filed a petition
before the State Human Rights
Commission raising several fresh
cases, demanding an end to the
violation of the very basic
rights of the people at large
including innocent killings,
burning down of properties,
illegal detention and other
rights abuses in the name of
fighting militancy.
While
in a civilized society there can
be no room for terror, the fact
remains that the state apparatus
has been grossly misusing its
authority in dealing with the
situation. Mr Shah said the
unabated killings of innocent
people in custody, in the fake
encounters has exposed the hollow
statements of the rulers who
loudly talked about zero
tolerance. He referred to the
instance of Magam where a youth
was gunned down while demanding
college, a Rehbar-e-Taleem
teacher shot dead and firing on
public by two SOG men in
Baramulla.
Responding
to a question, Mr Shah said
Working Committee of the Party
has given its mind to contest
coming assembly elections and the
party supremo, G M Shah will
formally announce the ANCs
decision on polls in April. He,
however admitted that Party has
made up its mind to contest
vigorously. The ANC leader did
not give any hint about the
trucks with any party or group.
He
alleged that PDP has damaged the
social fabrics and created doubts
and wedge among the people of
different regions and NC has
failed to play the role of a
vibrant and meaningful
opposition.
He
alleged that war against
corruption was just a drama.
Accountability Commission was
headless and moreover, nepotism,
misgovernance and
misappropriation of developmental
funds was the order of the day.
Government failed to utilise
funds to the tune of over Rs 4900
crore and it totally exposes its
so called work
culture.
General
secretary of the Party Mir
Mohammed and advocate Mohiuddin
Uri another stalwart from
Baramulla district of the Party
were also present in the
conference besides S. Gian Singh
and Kewel Sharma.
