Shun dominant streak
Sir,
In the present
times when the world is ripped apart on many
counts by strife, mayhem, arson and general
decline in tolerance a question naturally arises
why does this all happen. Why man is after the
blood of another man. Cannibalism was practised
ages ago that too in extreme climes and
situations but why is cannibalism in its present
form being practised.
The domination
streak in man has not subsided. In order to
pursue his own agenda he can go to any length. He
can devise dubious means to try to control the
destiny of his fellow men. He will forget very
conveniently that not long ago he walked hand in
hand with same person whom now he is opposing
tooth and nail. A classic case is the relation
between PDP and Congress. When PDP with only
sixteen members was given charge to run the State
and Congress gave them support all was well and
rosy. But when Congress Chief Minister came on
the scene the PDP want on its 'harassing ways'.
Finally the Govt fell on Amarnath Shrine Board
land row.
Now whole State is
burning courtesy the intransigent attitude of
parties like People Democratic Party and National
Conference. The streak to dominate and grind own
axe has come to fore in a vehment way the way
these leaders of these parties issued statements.
Notwithstanding the fact that Jammu has always
remained peaceful and age long tradition of
communal harmony the present struggle has been
dubbed as communal by these leaders.
The time has come
for the leaders across the Pir Panchal to shun
their dominant streak and treat Jammuites as
equal partners in the overall progress and
development of the State.

Release COLA/DA before
Independence Day
Sir,
It is to submit
that for the last three years the PSU employees
are clamoring for release of DA/COLA, but except
verbal assurances nothing is being done to
redress our genuine grievances with the result,
the PSU employees have reached at the point of
starvation. Due to price hike, it is impossible
for us to meet the day today expenses. His
Excellency the Governor is requested to kindly
intervene in the matter and release COLA/DA in
favour of the PSU employees. It would not be out
of place to mention here that the former Chief
Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had promised that the
PSU employees will be given DA instead of COLA at
par with Government employees so that the
discrimination against the public sector
employees is stopped. It may not be out of plea
to say that due to the non release of COLA at par
with the State Govt employees the PSU employees
and their families are at the brink of virtual
starvation. In these circumstances when the
prices of all essential commodities has risen sky
high PSU employees of the State find it difficult
to make both ends meet. It is expected that the
authorities at the helm of affairs will look into
the matter and release DA/COLA soon.

Conserve water
Sir,
Water needs to be
conserved. Water is one of the most essential
basic requirements of the people. Thus it needs
to be utilised with care and caution. Without
water nothing can be done in our daily lives.
Water constitutes seventy percent of the planet
and that is the reason that when seen from space
the Earth looks like a blue ball. The huge
quantity of water in the oceans makes it look
like blue from the space. That is why it is
called Blue Planet.
In human body more
than 90 percent of our body weight is due to the
presence of water. Thus the importance of water
can be judged by this simple fact. Water is the
ultimate elixir that promotes life and existence.
Great civilizations have formed only where there
was water. Egyption civilization flourished on
Nile, Mesopotamtan in Tigris and Euphrates,
Chinese on Hawang Ho and Indian civilization
flourished on now extinct Saraswati river and
liter on Ganga. The waters of Ganga helped to
develop a great civilizational content in India
that is why Ganga is called the holy river.
But due to the
rapid rise in population worldwide water has
become scarce. The way we use water has
contributed largely to the water crises. Scarcity
of water in our country and particularly in
places like Jammu is due to the overexploitation
of ground water. Efforts have to be undertaken to
conserve water. First of all we should use water
judiciously and then we should help conserve
water. The best way to conserve water is through
water harvesting. Water harvesting methods should
be employed in all houses so that we are able to
recharge our ground water sources.
