JAMMU, Oct 29: A militant, who was in touch with police in Pakistan since 2004, has finally succeeded in crossing Line of Control (LoC) and surrendered today before police and Army in Reasi district. For the first time, police have recovered a US Cellular services mobile telephone from his possession with which the ultras were directly in contact with militants in Pakistan and Pir Panjal range.....more

Mati Gawran-Warwan road by Dec: CM
*Traffic to ply on Mughal road by next summer

Mati Gawran (Daksum), Oct 29: Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that Mati Gawran-Warwan road, connecting Anantnag and Kishtwar districts, would be through by December this year, adding it shall meet the age old aspiration of people separated by Pir Panjal Mountain for centuries. He said Kokernag-Sinthan-Kishtwar road would be upgraded to double lane and the project started in April 2006 will be completed in two and a half years. .....more

 

JKBL half yearly profit up by 31%

Srinagar, Oct 29: While continuing its growth path, J&K Bank recorded a 31.44% rise in net profit at Rs. 191.04 crore for the first half of this fiscal ended September 30, 2007, as against Rs.145.34 crore of a year ago. For the quarter (July - September, 2007) the net profit witnessed a 30% rise from Rs. 82.95 crore a year ago to Rs. 107.80 crore. In this quarter, the bank has earned more than Rs 1 crore profit a day. The increase in net profit has been an outcome of significant rise in Interest Income on loans & advances and Other Income......more
