Rehbar-i-Zirat

Sir,

The proposal to adjust about two thousand unemployed Agriculture Graduates in Rehbar-i-Zirat scheme is a step in right direction. In 1984 the scheme of Rehbar-i-Zirat was introduced by the then Government and hundreds of unemployed Agriculture Graduates were provided employment under it. Then for reasons best known to the concerned authorities the scheme was discontinued.

Now this scheme is being proposed to be reintroduced in March or April 2007. It will help these unemployed youths with some hope for future. The changing agriculture scenario needs new tools and new technologies with which our farmers have to get equipped especially when globlisation is putting pressure on our farmers. These agriculture graduates can be made as an effective tool for the transfer of technologies as well as market strategies from research institutions to the farmers.
