SBI Q2 net dips 2.53 pc at Rs 1184 cr

MUMBAI, Oct 28: State Bank of India today said its net profit dipped by 2.53 per cent at Rs 1184.49 crore for the quarter ended September 30, as compared to Rs 1215.36 crore for the same quarter last year.

The total income increased 9.69 per cent to Rs 10811.23 crore during the July-September quarter, from Rs 9856.04 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago, SBI informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The SBI Group posted a net profit of Rs 1734.45 crore for the second quarter this fiscal, as compared to Rs 1590.75 crore for the same quarter last fiscal.

The total income of the group increased to Rs 16255.36 crore for the quarter ended September 30, from Rs 13974.28 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago. (PTI)

MUMBAI, 0ct 28: Software services provider, Tata Elxsi Ltd today posted 39.22 per cent increase in profit after tax at Rs 11.89 crore for the quarter ended September 30 as compared to Rs 8.54 crore in the corresponding quarter in 2005-06.

The total income increased 33.83 per cent to Rs 75.12 crore for the quarter ended September 30 as compared to Rs 56.13 crore in the same quarter last year, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange. (PTI)

GE approves equity subscriptions worth
Rs 250cr to Greatship Ltd

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd (GE Shipping) today said the company has approved subscribing to the equity of its wholly owned subsidiary, Greatship (India) Ltd to the extent of Rs 250 crore.

The Board of Directors of the company at its meeting held yesterday decided the aforesaid funds will be utilised by Greatship financing its assets acquisition programme.

The company had recently announced that Greatship (India), has contracted to buy four 80T anchor handling tug cum supply vessels (AHTSV) being built by Labroy Shipbuilding and Engineering, Singapore.

According to the media reports, the company also plans to spend 506 million dollars by December 2009 on fleet expansion. (UNI)

MUMBAI, Oct 28: Bank of Baroda today posted an 11.30 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 288.36 crore for the quarter ended September 30, as compared to Rs 259.07 crore for the same quarter last year.

The total income grew 25.15 per cent to Rs 2507.66 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, from Rs 2003.59 crore for the corresponding quarter last year, the bank informed the Bombay Stock Exchange. (PTI)

IIFC executes agreement with
IL&FS for infrastrucutre projects

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: In an attempt to originate and mobilise resources for infrastructure projects on a public private partnership (PPP) basis, India Infrastructure Finance Company of India Ltd (IIFC) executed an agreement with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL and FS).

The agreement signed yesterday constitutes one more step taken by the IIFC to augment the institutional capacity for the accelerated development, implementation and financing of the infrastructure projects.

The IIFC expects to support other institutions on a similar basis as part of its on-going efforts to develop the necessary institutional capacities to develop the country's infrastructure.

The IIFC was established in Januaary 2006 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Government of India to act as the apex financing institution for the infrastructure sector.

Since its inception, IIFC has sanctioned over Rs 5000 crore of debt funding to the infrastructure sector either directly to infrastructure projects or through innovative financing arrangements to support the participation of banks and financial institutions in infrastructure projects.

The sector currrently being actively supported by the IIFC includes power, ports, airports, urban infrastrucutre, water and tourism.

In all cases the focus is on leveraging budgetary resources and in supporting banks and financing institutions to participate in such projects in the power sector.

For instance IIFC has enabled the debt funding in 400 MW of power projects currently being developed by a number of state governments and IL and FS by leading a consortium of banks and financial institutions to participate in this efforts through an innovative financial arrangements. (UNI)

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: Barring a fall in urad, prices generally ruled steady in the wholesale pulses market today in the absence of any worthwhile buying or selling.

Arrivals and offtake too remained at a low ebb and volume of business poor.

Traders said fresh arrivals in the face of reduced offtake by stockists mainly brought down urad prices.

Urad Maharastra and Rangoon were quoted lower at Rs 3350-3550 and Rs 3425-3500 against last close of Rs 3375-3550 and Rs 3475-3500 a quintal respectively.

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: In limited deals, non-basmati rice weakened on the wholesale grains market today on sluggish demand against fresh arrival and closed with fresh losses.

However, other commodities continued to move in a tight range on some deals.

Traders said sluggish demand against fresh arrival mainly pulled down rice permal prices.

In the rice section, permal wand and sela prices eased to Rs 1180-1250 and Rs 1185-1250 against last closing of Rs 1195-1265 and Rs 1200-1265 a quintal respectively.

Following were today's quotations per quintal:

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: In restricted activity, saria prices weakened on the wholesale steel and iron market today on reduced offtake amidst slow down in constructions activity and closed with losses.

Elsewhere, other steel prices moved in a tight range on some deals and settled around previous levels.

Marketmen said reduced offtake in the face of slow down in constructions activity helped saria prices to soften.

In the saria section, Amba 8-mm,10-mm and 12-mm were quoted lower at Rs 27,400, Rs.27,000 and Rs.26,000 per tone respectively.

16-20-mm and 25-mm followed suit and traded weak at Rs.26,800 and Rs,26,900 per tone respectively.

Select edible down on stockists selling

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: Weak conditions prevailed in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today with select prices declining on stockists selling against sluggish demand and ended negative zone.

Traders said apart from stockists selling, slow down in buying by millers led to a fall in edible oil prices.

They said outside advices were also not encouraging.

In edible oil section, cottonseed mill delivery oil shed Rs 10 at Rs 4060 per quintal while sesame mill delivery oil lost Rs 20 at Rs 4530 a quintal.

Soyabean refined mill delivery and soybean degum (delhi) oils shed rs 20 each at Rs 4280 and Rs 4160 per quintal respectively.

Cashew kernel prices down on sluggish demand

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: In restricted activity, Cashew kernel varities weakened in the wholesale dry fruit market today due to sluggish demand coupled with subdued advices from producing centres and closed with losses.

Elsewhere, other dry fruit prices remained quiet in limited deals.

Marketmen said sluggish demand along with weak advices from southern region mainly helped cashew prices to move down.

Cashew kernel No 180, 210 and 310 declined to Rs 480-500, Rs 360-400 and Rs 250-200 from previous level of Rs 485-525, Rs 380-420 and Rs 255-270 per kilo respectively.

Its broken 2, 4 and 8 pieces also followed suit and slipped at Rs 162-195, rs 157-190 and Rs 150-170 instead of Rs 165-205, Rs 160-195 and Rs 160-175 a kilo respectively.

Select base metals up on fresh demand, global cue

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: Select base metal prices firmed in the wholesale non-ferrous metal market today on fresh buying by consuming industries amidst higher trend at London Metal Exchange and closed in positive zone.

Traders said overnight firming trend at London Metal Exchange (LME) and fresh industrial demand mainly led to rise in base metal prices.

Tin ingot and solder quoted higher at Rs 540 and Rs.160 against last close of Rs 535 and Rs 157 per kilo respectively

Nickel plate 4x4, 9x9 and 4x24 recovered by Rs.10 each at Rs.1910-2010, Rs.1920 and Rs.1920-1940 per kilo respectively.

Zinc slab and dross followed suit and enquired higher at Rs 215 and Rs 135 per kilo respectively.
