Governor celebrates Eid with jawans

SRINAGAR, Oct 25: It was Eid with difference at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regimental Centre in the Periphery of Srinagar this morning. More than thousands of army personnel from various units and Air Force offered Eid prayers at the centre, as thousands of their comrades were watching their Muslim brethren performing the prayers.

Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) S. K. Sinha was among the first to greet Muslim soldiers on the festival of Eid.

Addressing large gathering, the Governor hoped that Eid-ul-Fitr will hurled a new era of peace and tranquility in Kashmir that has been the land of saints and seers. He said that Kashmir has a unique tradition of amity and harmony that is popularly known as Kashmiriyat which has with stood the test of times. He said that Jammu and Kashmir is proud of its secular ethos and unique in many ways in whole of the country.

Gen. Sinha traced back his association with this beautiful Valley to 1947 when he was highly impressed to see the unity of different communities. He said that festival like Eid were being jointly celebrated with gaiety and religious fervour by all the communities. He hoped that the festival will be celebrated in true spirit of Kashmiriyat.

Later, the Governor interacted with officers and jawans besides their families and wished them Eid greetings.

 
 

2 killed, 6 injured in road accidents

JAMMU, Oct 25: Two persons were killed and six others received injuries in separate road accidents.

Police spokesman said that one Asima Bano, daughter of Mohd Khan of Banihal was knocked to death by a speeding Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK02AB-1670. She was immediately rushed to Emergency Hospital Banihal where she was pronounced as brought dead.

The body was, later, handed over to family members after post-mortem.

Police has registered a case in this connection.

In another accident, one Jewan Singh, son of Natha Singh of Ramban was killed when his Maruti Van number JK06-331 collided with a Swaraj Mazda number JK02P-8229 at Ramban.

The critically injured Maruti Van driver was rushed to Emergency Hospital Ramban where he succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile, people of the Banihal and Ramban alleged that Emergency Hospitals on the highway have become referral centres and no proper medicare was being provided to the victims of accidents and militancy related incidents.

They said that doctors in the hospital instead of properly attending to the patients always preferred to refer them to Jammu hospitals.

Meanwhile, six persons were injured in separate road accidents reported from different parts of Jammu city and outskirts. All have been hospitalised and their condition was stated to be out of danger.

They are Vijay Kumar, son of Ram Lal of Nowshera, Anmol, son of Parshotam of Gandhi Nagar, Rakesh Kumar, son of Mohan Lal of Chadwal, Chajju Ram, son of Munshi Ram of Shiv Nagar, Abjeet Singh, son of Dalip Singh of Dhar Road Udhampur and Mohinder Kumar, son of Nanak Chand of Nagbani.

Azad hosts Eid Milan

SRINAGAR, Oct 25: Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad hosted Eid Milan at SKICC here this evening.

Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, members of the Council of Ministers, Mufti Azam Kashmir Mufti Bashir-ud-Din, noted social worker and Gandhian activist Nirmala Deshpandey, legislators, corporators, Chief Secretary C. Phunsog, Director General of Police Gopal Sharma, senior civil and police officers, media persons, political and social representatives, prominent citizens and people from various walks of life participated.

Chief Minister received the guests warmly, extended Eid greetings and expressed best wishes for their well-being and welfare of the State and the country.

Head Masters apprise MoS Education of their grievances

JAMMU, Oct 25: A delegation of School Education Officers Association (Head Master Grade), led by N D Sharma, called on Minister of State for School Education Manjeet Singh and highlighted their grievances and demands.

The delegation apprised the Minister about the injustice, difficulties, harassment and humiliation being faced by the officers of this cadre since 1976, especially afterwards April 1, 2005 when their counterparts (Plus 2 Lecturers) were elevated to higher pay scale.

The Minister gave a patient hearing to the members of the deputation and assured that their demands would be given due care and redressed at an earliest.

The delegation comprised of Suabash Gupta, K C Bhagat, Subash Khanna, P R Slathia, Kuldeep Singh, P S Manhas, Sant Kapoor and Surinder Mohan Sharma.

JKUTF deputation calls on CEO

JAMMU, Oct 25: A deputation of district Jammu unit of JK United Teachers Federation, Jammu, called on Chief Education Officer, Jammu, Hem Raj Dubey and discussed with him the problems being faced by the teachers.

The deputation, led by Parshotam Sharma apprised the CEO about demand regarding sanction of deputation in favour of the teachers who had undergone SSA training in the year 2004, 2005 and 2006. The CEO informed that the deputation for the year 2005 and 2006 has already been sanctioned while the process for 2004 is also underway and likely to be completed very soon.

The deputation also demanded removal of pay anomalies between the teachers appointed during April 1996 and May 1996. The teachers appointed during April 1996 are working in the grade of 4500-7000 and getting an annual increment of Rs 125 while the teachers appointed in the month of May 1996, are working in the grade of 5000-8000 and drawing the annual increment at the rate of Rs 150, the deputation explained.

Mr Dubey assured to take up the matter with the higher authorities.

Later the deputation called on the Federation chairman Satish Sharma and apprised him of the discussion with the CEO.

The deputation comprised of Prem Paul Singh, Raghunandan, Rashpal Singh, Pawan Wadhera and Narinder Sharma.

Ware House traders observe strike, hold demonstration

JAMMU, Oct 25: To register their protest against yesterday’s action of police and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), the traders of Ware House today downed the shutters of their business establishments and staged a demonstration demanding action against the erring police officers.

The demonstration was spearheaded by Traders Federation of Ware House/ Nehru Market and it was led by its president, Ramesh Gupta. The demonstrators raising slogans in support of their demands blamed the local police officers and JMC for harassing the members of trading community in Ware House and Nehru Market.

They warned to intensify the agitation in case the demand was not settled and action taken against the erring police officers.

Later addressing a press conference here this afternoon, the President of the Federation, Ramesh Gupta warned that trading community will not tolerate the "high-handedness" of the police any more.

Mr Sharma who was closeted by the other office bearers of the Federation said a delegation of the traders also called on the Divisional Commissioner, today and put forth their demand before him.

He denied that the traders have made any encroachment in the Ware House or the Nehru Market as alleged.

He, while demanding that the Belicharana road be also opened, said a delegation of traders will call on Chief Minister and other ministers and take up the issue with them.

Meanwhile, Yash Paul Gupta President Associated Chamber of Traders Federation has expressed his anguish over the high handedness of police on traders.

BSP demands Governor rule in J&K

VIJAYPUR, Oct 25: Expressing serious concern over the prevailing scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, Bahujan Samaj Party has demanded imposition of President’s rule in the State.

Addressing a press conference at Vijaypur, the BSP leaders alleged that the National Conference and ruling People's Democratic Party were trying to befool the people and pushing Jammu and Kashmir State away from rest of country by raising slogans of autonomy and self rule. "The demands of autonomy and self rule are attempt by National Conference and PDP, respectively, to divert the attention of people from real issues like militancy, migration of minorities from militancy infested areas, citizenship rights to West Pakistan refugees, reservation rights of SC, ST, OBCs, religious minorities and poor among the upper castes," they added and extended support to PoK refugees’ call for Jammu bandh on November 6

The BSP leaders also strongly opposed any mercy on the Parliament attack plotter Mohd Afzal Guru and said that the Government of India should not get pressurized by the politicians like Farooq Abdullah, Muftis and separatists.

"To save J&K from these politicians, Governor’s rule should be imposed here so that real issued be taken up to make the State peaceful, progressive and having communal harmony," they added.

The press conference was addressed by Dr Sat Pal, Som Nath, Puran Chand, Surinder Sharma, Neelam Kumari and Milap Singh.

 

KP Sabha felicitates Pran Kaul

JAMMU, Oct 25: Coordinator Children’s Assistance Programme Kashmir Overseas Association (KOA) Pran Kaul was felicitated by Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, at a function organized here, today.

The function was chaired by the president of the Sabha, T N Khosa.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kaul expressed grave concern over the plight of displaced people putting up in various camps at Jammu and Udhampur.

Mr Kaul also did not spare his community members saying instead of constructing the memorials for dead they should take care of living members of the community who are really in distress. The people in camps have no resources for education and the community instead of wasting money and material in solemnization of havans should work for their rehabilitation, he asserted.

He said KOA has taken up various helpage projects for the community in hand and in future it will try to do something more concrete to help the Pandits in distress.

Karan Singh extends Eid greetings to Muslims

JAMMU, Oct 25: Former Sadar-e-Riyasat and Chairman Trustee of Dharmarth Trust, Dr Karan Singh, has extended Eid greetings to Muslim community and praised India’s rich composite culture and traditions.

Speaking after inauguration of newly constructed Yagyashalla at Shri Raghunath Mandir Complex here, Dr Karan Singh said Indian religion is based on the common composite culture, tolerance and respect for all the religions.

Dr Singh said that for the long time he was feeling that Shri Raghunath temple should have a spacious Yagyashalla and today this desire has been accomplished and the same handed over to people of Jammu for performing Yagya and other religious functions. He added that Raghunath temple in unique in Northern India being managed by Shri Dharmarth Trust. He congratulated the employees of the Trust for maintaining the temple with a zeal and completing the Yagyashalla project in record period.

Dr Karan Singh said that he has recently introduced Utsav Murtis on the pattern of South India for display in the Shobha Yatras. He added that he has procured the Murtis of Bhagwan Ram, Lakshman and Sita for display in the Shobha Yatra on holy occasion of Ram Navmi and Murti of Shri Radha Krishan on Krishan Janamashtami. Earlier to mark the inauguration of Yagyashalla, a Havan was performed. The Chairman Trustee also distributed financial help to various social institutions and honoured heads of social and political leaders and senior Government officers for maintaining communal amity, brotherhood and perfect law and order in Jammu.

Swami Nirmal Swaroop opposes inter-caste marriages

JAMMU, Oct 25: Akhil Bharatiya Vaidik Dharam Prachar Ashram incharge Swami Nirmal Swaroop Ji Mahraj has said that inter-caste marriages are against the Sanatan Dharam.

Addressing a press conference here today, Swami Ji criticized those political parties and leaders who are supporting the inter-caste and inter community marriages. They (political parties) are only playing politics with the religion for their petty interests.

He said the holy Geeta and Ramayana have also not allowed the inter-caste marriages while dismissing their contention that inter-caste marriages strengthen secularism. "The people in past who were not indulging in inter- caste marriages were much secular than us", he added.

Swami Ji said he has launched a drive in association with the like minded and religious persons against the inter-caste marriages to apprise people about their disadvantages.

He, however, said the people can play a great role in launching a campaign against the inter-caste marriages by themselves.

Swami Ji who was on a three days visit to J&K State, said his main motto is to spread the message of Sanatan Dharam in the country and abroad.

AWSC highlights demands

JAMMU, Oct 25: Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC) held its meeting in which Madan Lal Sharma, MP was the chief guest.

The meeting held at the residence of Giri Datt Sharma was attended by a large number of senior citizens including president H B Khajuria, former MLA Baldev Sharma, Ram Lal Anand, Lekh Raj Sharma, Col D N Sharma, Balkrishan Sharma, T C Sharma, Comrade Des Raj, Chander Mohan, Bodh Raj, D N Dubey, D C Sharma, Banarsi Dass, Mohan Lal and Kewal Krishan.

Senior citizens demanded allotment of land by the Government for construction of Cluster for them; Revising the existing age limit of 65 years in the Income Tax Law to 60 years as is the case with other Departments; and Security of senior citizens as greater number of senior citizens who were living all alone with their wards outside on employment mission.

The MP Madan Lal Sharma assured the senior citizens that he would plead their case with the Chief Minister and also arranged their meeting with the CM shortly. He further assured to take up the case of revision of age limit with Union Finance Minister regarding tax relaxation from the age limit of 60 years as against 65 years as at present.

The senior citizens assured the MP that they would continue to support the Chief Minister in future also provided the present State dispensation continues its drive as being done presently.

Floral tributes paid to Capt Gandharb

JAMMU, Oct 25: Remembering the great son of soil Amar Shaheed Captain Gandharab Singh Manhas at Pargwal Island, Speaker Legislative Assembly Tara Chand today paid floral tributes to the martyr on the occasion of his 60th death anniversary at a Shaheedi Diwas function held at Pargwal in Akhnoor tehsil.

Highlighting the great sacrifice of the hero for safeguarding the Nation, Mr. Tara Chand threw light on his contributions which would always be remembered with pride. He asked the people to follow the footsteps of Amar Shaheed captain Gandharab Singh Manhas if they really wish to serve the country.

He said that the life and teachings of Shaheed captain have left deep and lasting impact on various facts of people.

Speaker said the level of violence in Jammu and Kashmir since 18 years has reduced and the situation is improving fast in the state.

The students of Gandharab Army Vidyalaya, Pargwal presented a colourful cultural programme on the occasion and paid floral tributes to Martyr Capital Gandharab Singh Manhas. The programme was highly applauded by army, teacher fraternity, and prominent citizens.
