"Abolish
dengue danger"
Sir,
In response to a news report
titled ''Dengue cases rise to 1373, death
toll 25 (DE, Oct 15)'' I as a common
citizen am to say that it is really very
shocking that Delhi the capital of our
country struggles to cope up with the
'Mosquito menance', dengue death climbed
to 25-27(Approx) and the total number of
dengue patients to 1373+ and is
increasing and spreading day by day.
Though much effort have made
and steps taken by the Union Health
Ministry, Doctors of AIIMS N-Delhi, RDA
General Secretary and our State Health
Department and its Doctors in Jammu,
Kashmir, New-Delhi and other places to
control the dengue danger and deaths and
to save the precious lives of the dengue
patients which is worth praising. But
less attention has been paid to the
farflung and remote areas of J&K
State like Kargil, Leh, Nobra, Zanaskar,
Chiktan, Uri, Doda and Gool etc which
need equal attention. In this regard much
needs to be done to abolish dengue as
well as small pox.
Since 'Dengue is Dangerous',
therefore, the Union Health Minister and
the J&K Health Minister is requested
to kindly declare dengue as an epidemic
because it is spreading day by day and to
take concrete, candid, and remedial
measures and to provide immediate
medicine, spray around the lanes and
draines, and better immediate treatment
to the dengue patients besides making
people aware about the 'causes and cures'
of the dengue in the both rural and urban
areas including the farflung places like
Kargil-Ladakh, Doda etc etc.... in order
to save the precious lives. But print and
electronic media should be utilised for
the awareness purpose in farflung areas
as well.

Maharaja
Gulab Singh
Sir,
A few days ago we celebrated
the birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab
Singh. As it is well known that Maharaja
Gulab Singh found the modern State of
Jammu and Kashmir. He gave it a new
geographical as well as a political
identity. Soon after the ascended the
throne he embarked upon the
reconstruction of the State which was in
shambles after the perilous rule of
Pathans which had famished the state
economically and culturally. The Maharaja
was a secular ruler who tried his best to
instal confidence into the lives of the
people.
Rising from a humble origins
he rose in ranks by dint of his
capability and hard work in the army of
Maharaja Ranjit Singh and eventually
became the founder of our State. It is
hightime that we remember this great son
of the soil. A Gulab Singh chair or a
research project of some sort is
desirable to known about the
socio-economic life of his time. A Gulab
Singh cultural centre focussing upon the
culture of the people of this State in
his time should be built so that we too
as well as the future generations become
witness to our past glories of which the
late Maharaja is an important part.

Increase
honorarium of ReT's teachers
Sir,
It is no secret that the
honorarium of Rehbar-e-Talim teachers
fixed at Rs. 1500/- per month is a mere
pittance. It is less than the wages of an
ordinary daily labourer. The honorarium
is not commensurate with the
qualifications of these teachers who are
post graduate or even Doctorates.
Besides the ReT teacher has
to work like a regular teacher. His duty
hours an same also. In this context we
request the Chief Minister to kindly
increase our honorarium which has already
been passed on the floor of Legislative
Assembly. It will result in the increase
of the morale of ReTs of the State and
they will put in their best towards
education of the students. ReTs deserve
the increase in their salary.

Garbage
disposal
Sir,
The disposal of garbage by
households in Jammu city is a big problem
because the Municipal Corporation has not
installed sufficient dustbins for the
same in the city. Where ever there are
dustbins you will find the garbage
scattered around the dustbin by the stray
animals thus making the purpose of the
dustbin useless. Now-a-days we can see
that the garbage including the
non-biodegradable substances such as
polythene etc. is being burnt by the
Municipal sweepers on the roadside almost
on daily routine.
We can even witness some
shopkeepers burning their waste material
on road sides and some household owners
are also doing the same practice. In this
way the whole environment gets polluted
many folds than the vehicular population.
By burning of these non-biodegradable
substances some toxic gases are produced
which are extremely harmful for human
inhalation and can cause some serious
lung diseases. This practice should be
immediately stopped and the concerned
authorities should impose ban on the
burning of waste material near
residential areas.
Thus the Government should
devise ways and means for the disposal of
the garbage from households etc. of this
fast expanding city on war footing basis.
Yours
etc...
