2.5 lakh Muslims offer prayer at Hazratbal Mosque

SRINAGAR: A record 2.5 lakh Muslims today offered Eid prayers - the highest in 20 years - at the historic Hazratbal shrine here, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Mohammed, officials said. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former chief ministers Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Farooq Abdullah and National Conference chief Omar Abdullah were among those who offered prayers at the shrine. Later Azad hosted Eid Milan at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex on the banks of Dal lake......more

Six killed in Kashmir violence

SRINAGAR: Six people, including two militants and two brothers, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces busted two militant hideouts and recovered a huge cache of explosives and ammunition since last evening. Militants today shot at and critically injured a former Special Police Officer, Abid Ahmed Mir, after dragging him out from his house at Sherpora-Yaripora in Anantnag district, a police spokesman said. Abid succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. A self-styled divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Mushtaq Ahmed alias Majid and another militant of the outfit Abdul Latief were killed in an encounter with security forces at Keen Dhar in Gandoh area of Doda district yesterday.......more
