One way
traffic
Sir,
This is to bring to the kind
notice of the Traffic department and for
the general public also that the traffic
on the road from Railway Station Jammu to
Trikuta Nagar Extension is becoming more
risky day by day, not in the sense of the
number of vehicles increasing but the way
some of the drivers are driving on this
road.
This road used to be single
road some times ago but later on it was
converted into the one way road with the
opening of the second road on the other
side of the canal.
But still some people are
casually driving on the wrong side of the
road, which is very risky. There are few
blind turns on this road also and it
becomes very difficult to control the
vehicle when some car or bike comes from
the opposite direction on the same road.
I, personally use this road
daily while going to office and four
times I have saved myself from such
drivers using the wrong side.
I appeal to the Traffic
department to take this matter seriously
and make some arrangement to punish the
people who use the wrong side of the
road. The people in general should abide
by the traffic rules and use the proper
road side for safe driving "For
others-for yourself and for your children
and for the society"
We can save time by taking a
short cut but one such kind of silly
mistake can take some one away from his
family.

Employees
and GP Fund
Sir,
GP Fund is a source of big
headache for the State Government
employees. The money credited to GP Fund
belongs to the employee.
But whenever he retires he
shudders at the delay caused in the
settlement of his GP Fund case.
The reason is that many
formalities are needed to be settled
before he can even dream of getting his
case settled. Formalities like the
submission of nondrawal statements from
1986 onwards is a constant thorn in the
retirees flesh. Especially when the
retiree is a migrant employee. Whether he
can get a non drawl statement from
Kashmir is a nightmarish prospective. All
said and done if we are living in 'Modern
Age', nay, 'Post Modern Age' then cannot
the GP Fund account be streamlined so
that when an employee retires he is given
a cheque equal to his amount saved in his
GP Fund Account. After all it is not too
big a haul. Concerned authorities kindly
listen and pay heed to employee's woes.

Role of
NRIS
Sir,
It is indeed matter of
pleasure and pride that the Prime
Minister of U.K, Tony Blair has lauded
the role of Indians, especially Punjabis
for their commendable and positive
contribution in many spheres in U.K.
(D.E. dated Oct.2,). He has fully
acknowledged that Indian are recognised
world over for their hardwork, sincerity
and devotion where-ever they go or settle
down. It is a great compliment as it has
been widely accepted fact as expressed by
the PM of U.K. one of the most developed
countries of the world.
It amply speaks of the fact
that we, Indians are very hardworking,
sincere, and have great potential. Our
Indian brothern in UK do deserve
congratulation and gratitutes for their
untiring and sincere efforts which has
earned such laudable comments. That is
why, "we are proud to be
Indians".

Geography
as a compulsory subject
Sir,
The inclusion of human
rights, disaster management and health
and physical education in senior
secondary schools during the next
academic year is a welcome step, which is
taken by the J&K BOSE recently. But
the BOSE should not ignore geography as a
compulsory subject to be introduced in
all the senior secondary schools of the
State.
Geography, which is
popularly known as the mother of all
physical and Social Sciences, is still
not being taught in all the senior
secondary schools of the State.
The BOSE must not forget
that disaster management and burgeoning
population are some of chapters in the
physical and human geography
respectively. Moreover Environmental
Science is also a part of the Geography.
Then why not the importance of Geography
as a compulsory subject in senior
secondary level is realised. Introducing
this subject in senior secondary schools
can also solve the problems of hundreds
of geographer who are facing the problem
of employment and unadjustment.
Yours
etc....
