Wages of ReT

Sir,

As your goodself is well aware that at present the Rehbar-e-Talim (ReT) teachers in the State are being paid only Rs 15,00 per month. It is very unjustified that doctorate, MA, BEd and other degree holders who work as ReT are being lesser than a casual labourer is paid in a month.

We have heard that a proposal to increase ReT teachers wages was first approved by the then Education Minister Harsh Dev Singh but the same has been awaiting a Cabinet approval all this while.

Since teaching profession is highly regarded as one of the most respectful and also the toughest jobs in the society, we appeal the Government that the ReT teachers' honorarium be enhanced from Rs 1500 to Rs 5000 per month and their regularization norms be amended to regularize the ReTs as general line teachers in three years than in five years.

Such a decision will go a long way boosting the morale of the whole teaching community in the State.

'Ban smoking '

Sir,

At the public places like restaurants, hospital waiting rooms, departmental stores, in the public transport like buses and trains, not partial but total ban should be imposed on smoking. There is plenty of choice otherwise and there cannot be any compromise with the health of a non-smoker. People who are addicted to smoking can move in a private place, move out in a street or out in open. Everybody knows that smoking results in early aging and early death due to the presence of carcinogenic chemicals which cause various cancers and physical disorders. Even at home people smoke like anything. They smoke in presence of Alcohol & Drug Dependance

their children, in all situations, at the cost of their health. Besides passive smoking is sometimes more dangerous and results in easy victims of Nicotine. There has been a hot debate going on in recent past that Bollywood celebrities should restrict themselves acting in such scenes which encourage smoking because quite a number of youth get lured towards it. To cite an example of the most populous country of the world- China, is home to one third of the world smokers. With a population of a billion and twenty crores, it is estimated that as many as two thousand billion cigarettes are smoked everyday- a huge astronomical figure- that is twelve zeros after two.

Thus it is imperative and incumbent on the civil society to think twice on this menace and initiate a debate that would eventually rid the society of this problem.

Garib Rath for Jammu

Sir,

The introduction of Garib Rath trains from New Delhi to Bihar is a tribute to the imagination of the Railway Ministry. These trains will travelling in Air Conditioned comfort possible for lower middle and middle class people. The slashing down of rates by 50 percent is a bold step. The philosophy of earning profit through greater number of passenger per train seems to be the guiding Mantra in Garib Rath concept. So far so good. The point that concern our state is that the Railway Ministry should start Garib Rath service from Delhi to Jammu on daily basis. As we are aware thousands of poeple travel from Jammu to different parts of the country and vice versa. Jammu caters to thousands of pilgrims so the rush on the trains is heavy. A daily Garib Rath service to Jammu from Delhi would prove highly beneficial to the general population. All political parties whether in opposition or in power along with prominent citizens should impress upon the Railway Ministry about the essentiality as well as feasibility of starting a Garib Rath service from Delhi to Jammu.

Movies and censor certificates

Sir,

All Jammu theatres are exhibiting Hindi and English movies and large population goes to watch the movies. Such movies are rated U, U/A or A as per censor certificate. But the censor rating is shown in the form of certificate in the cinema hall only at the start of the movie. Posters, which are pasted in large number in the city roads, do not show such censor rating. As a consequence, a genuine family movie watcher is mislead. He cannot foresee the contents of the movie from the posters.

District administration is requested to make it obligatory to mention censor rating (U, U/I,A) on the posters also.
