Beheading
a way of terror
Sir,
The recent news item (9th
Oct) which carried the news of the
beheading of a dental surgeon in Sopore
reflects the pathological mindset of the
merchants of terror. Hardly a day had
passed when the terrorists had beheaded a
person in the same town known for its
apple orchards.
Many centuries earlier in
the kind and peacefull epoch of
Avantivarman a great Engineer Suyya had
laid the foundation of the town of
Sopore. Little did Suyya know that his
town would become a place of cold blooded
murder and beheadings would become a
routine here. I wonder how can such men
who call themselves staff bearers of
faith and religion engage themselves in
such acts which are very difficult to
imagine even. People of the town must
somehow show strength.
Let them raise their voice
against such madness and mockery of human
life. The State has to exercise its power
in such circumstances which it should
without wasting any time.

Laughter
the best medicine
Sir,
This refers to a letter
dated 5th Oct, titled, 'Hasya Vayanga' by
Shri Kumar Sharma. The learned another
very rightly has put forth the importance
of 'Hasya' or humour in our lives. These
days we are preoccupied with the material
matters only. Our whole life is spent in
collecting material for the upliftment of
the standard of our quality in life. But
we very conveniently forget the role that
a happy heart plays in our life. It is a
fact that materialism has not ensured the
mental well-being of man. It has only
ensured the physical well-being but that
too is not guaranted.
In this context the
importance of 'Hasya' or sense of humour
has a role to play. In our ethos 'Hasya'
as put forth by Mr. Sharma has an
important place. It is truly one of the
nine 'Rasa' or sentiments of life. Katra
festival organisors have done a good
service to the society by organising such
a contest. We surely need to smile and
laugh which are invariably the best
medicines both for mind as well body.

Youth
violence
Sir,
The article published in
this paper, titled ''Animal cruelty and
youth violence'' by Maneka Gandhi, dated
6th Oct, was informative from the point
of view unravelling the incidence of
violence related to youth and the record
of their cruelty towards animals. The
study is revealing. It is a natural that
youth and violence has taken a
centrestage. Whether the violence is in
the schools, colleges, universities, at
homes or in public place the rising graph
of youth violence is disturbing. Behind
this mental agitation of our youth are
many reasons.
The article has focussed and
related trends of youth violence to
animal cruelty. Broadly speaking it means
that our ethics which we are imbibing is
not humane. There is something wrong with
our way of life and our attitude to it.
The near total shunning of our 'Indian
way of life' is one of the prime causes
of this degeneration. To live in harmony
with nature and to live in a symbiotic
relationship with our fellow living
beings is the key to reinstal good values
in our children and youth. Hope it will
happen soon.

Release
of D.A
Sir,
Recently the Gvot. of India
has released the D.A @ 5 percent in
favour of the Central Govt. Employees.
The said D.A will be also released by the
J&K State Govt. in due course of
time. Our Govt. recently enhanced salary
and allowances in favour of the sitting
MLA's.
But we are very sorry to
point out that the Govt. has given no
attention towards the pensioners. When
the pensioners are already getting meagre
pension and it is very difficult for them
to make both ends meet with this meagre
pension, beside this the pensioner has to
spents Rs. 1000/- per month for the
purchase of medicines.
So it is requested to the
Chief Minister to enhance the Medical
allowance amounting to Rs. 500/- PM
instead of Rs. 100/- PM
