Rohini area of New Delhi
few days back, was
recovered from a guest
house in Katra town
today.
Police
spokesman said that a
police party from Katra
Police Station led by SHO
Inspector S S Sambyal
during checking of hotels
and guest houses, found a
minor girl and a youth
under suspicious
circumstances in a guest
house.
Both were
immediately taken to
custody and put to
sustained questioning
during which the youth
identified as Sunil, son
of Hira Lal of Rohini
confessed to had
kidnapped the minor girl
Sonam, daughter of Jai
Kishen of Rohini few days
back.
Subsequently,
SHO Katra brought the
matter to the notice of
Senior Superintendent of
Police (SSP) Udhampur
Prithvi Raj Manhas, who
contacted Sultanpuri
Police Station in Delhi
and came to know that a
report of kidnapping of
Sonam has been lodged
there by the parents of
the girl.
On the
request of SSP, a police
team of Sultanpuri Police
Station alongwith parents
of the girl reached Katra
this evening and took the
custody of both the girl
and the kidnapper.
It is
pertinent to mention here
that Katra Police has
initiated a special drive
to check hotels and guest
houses on the directions
of Additional SP Katra M
L Mehra and
Sub-Divisional Police
Officer (SDPO) Katra Anil
Magotra.

Youth
dies under suspicious circumstances

JAMMU, Oct 6: A youth died under
suspicious circumstances while as a woman
died of burn injuries and five persons
allegedly consumed poisonous substances.
Police
spokesman said that a youth identified as
Madan Lal, son of Isher Dass of Akhnoor
died under suspicious circumstances at
Old Rehari. The body was, later, shifted
to Government Medical College Hospital
for post-mortem.
Police has
initiated inquest proceedings in this
regard.
Meanwhile,
a woman Davinder Kour, wife of Bhupinder
Singh of Trikuta, who was admitted in
Government Medical College Hospital on
September 20, 2006 after receiving burn
injuries, succumbed today.
The body
was, later, handed over to family
members.
The
spokesman said that five persons
allegedly consumed poisonous substances
at their respective residences.
Identified as Tarsem Singh of Arnia, Sonu
Kumar of Jourian, Kamlesh Kumari of Nai
Basti, Pooja Devi of Reasi and Raj Kumari
of Maralian, they were rushed to hospital
when spotted unconscious by family
members.
Doctors
immediately provided them stomach wash
treatment followed by other medicare.
Their condition was stated to be out of
danger when reports last came in.
It could
not be ascertained as to under what
circumstances they consumed poison.
Police has
taken cognizance of the incidents.
Bhalla
inaugurates tubewell

JAMMU, Oct 6: Former Minister
and MLA Gandhi Nagar Raman Bhalla today
inaugurated a tube-well at Sanjay Nagar.
This was
the long pending demand of people of the
area. The tube-well at Sanjay Nagar is
one of the 25 tubewell sanctioned by the
Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) in
the Gandhi Nagar constituency.
On
completion, this tube-well will provide
water supply to about 25000 inhabitants
of the area and overcome the water
shortage upto large extent. Corporator of
the area Choudhary Dwarka was among
others present on the occasion.
Later, Mr
Bhalla inaugurated link roads in Udham
Singh Nagar and Sanjay Nagar.
Speaking
on the occasion, the MLA said that while
carrying out development works in his
constituency he has been giving proper
attention towards the areas inhabited by
the down-trodden section of the society
so that they could also be provided all
basic amenities.
He said
that all the promises which he had made
with the people of his constituency
during election campaign are being
full-filled in phased manner. Mr Bhalla
said that Coalition Government is
committed to the overall development of
all the regions and areas of the State.
Public
awareness lecture on diabetes by Dr
Jitendra Singh

detection camp cum public awareness
lecture of eminent Diabetologist Dr
Jitendra Singh was organized by Durga Nag
Trust in collaboration with Diabetes Care
Foundation (DCF) and Kuldeep Watal
Memorial Library in its community hal at
Anuradhapuram, Barnai today.
The
function was chaired by P N Taku,
president of the Trust while Brij Nath
Bakshi president of the Library and Ashok
Chaturvedi president DCF were the special
guests.
The
patients who were examined by Dr Jitendra
Singh were also provided free medicines
by Micro Lab Limited and Anil Kumar Bhata
chemist.
On the
occasion, free diabetes detection tests
were also conducted by Johnson and
Johnson and Vitasta Health Care Centre.
The representatives of Vitasta Health
Care Centre also conducted the free ECG
of the patients.
Dr
Jitendra Singh, while emphasizing the
importance of diabetes education
regretted that diabetes was causing
disability and death in large numbers
even though most of the diabetic
complications were 100 percent
preventable.
Quoting
from his fifth book "Looking ahead
with Diabetes", he said, the
diabetic who knows the most, lives
longest. Quoting examples he said
diabetes was today a leading cause of
blindness, kidney failure even though
these were absolutely preventable
complications.
Mr Taku on
the occasion announced that the Trust
will establish a diagnostic centre at
Durga Nag Community Hall where free of
cost tests will be conducted twice a
week.
Mr Bakshi
stressed the need of opening of a
hospital and urged Mr Taku to take steps
in this regard while Apex Committee
member Roshan Lal Raina stressed on
supply of adequate medicines in camps.

Ex-SSP
granted interim bail for medical check-up

Judge Jammu Subhash Chander Gupta today
granted 10 days interim bail to SSP
Karnail Singh, who is facing trail along
with other accused in much publicized
murder case of Nitin Sharma, a matador
driver, who was killed on August 24,
2005. The interim bail was granted for
medical check-up at Delhi with the
direction that accused be released on
furnishing surety and personal bond to
the tune of Rs one lakh each with
undertaking that he will not try to
temper with the prosecution evidence in
any manner.
The Judge
after hearing Public Prosecutor appearing
for the State and Advocate Sunil Sethi
and Advocate Vishal Kapur appearing for
the petitioner Karnail Singh, observed
that in the bail application it has been
submitted that the accused is suffering
from disc bulge at L3, L4 and O disc
protrusion with C migration at L4, L5
level with disc desiccation at L4, L5
resulting in deterioration of his health.
During the pendency of this bail
application an application was moved to
get Karnail Singh medically checked at
Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical
Sciences and Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu. The
direction was issued to the SP District
Jail Jammu to get accused Karnail Singh
medically examined at his own expenses.
Superintendent District Jail Jammu
submitted reports of the doctors, wherein
it was recommended surgical
decompression.
The Court
further said that advocate for the
accused prayed for his interim bail for
medical check-up as accused as to undergo
surgical operation and before operation
consultation is required at Delhi.
Looking to the prayer and the reports of
the doctors, the court ordered release of
Karnail Singh on interim bail for a
period of 10 days to under go medical
check-up at Delhi.

team comprising of Commercial

Sub-Inspectors Raj Kumar Sadhotra
and Surinder Pal Singh laid a
special naka on Jammu-Pathankot
National Highway.
All
types of commercial vehicles were
checked and several vehicles were
found involved in violation of
provisions of J&K VAT Act,
2005 and concealment of taxable
goods.
Subsequently,
an amount of Rs 60,544 was levied
and recovered from the offenders
on the spot.

burglars gang busted, 4 held

JAMMU, Oct 6: Police today
busted an inter-state gang of burglars
and arrested four of its members. Eight
tolas of gold and 14 kilograms of silver
was recovered from their possession.
Senior
Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu
Mukesh Singh said that some days back
burglary took place in a jewellery shop
of Vipin Nischal, son of Kedar Nath
Nischal at Shastri Nagar and burglars
decamped with eight tolas of gold and 14
kilograms of silver.
During the
course of investigations into the case,
Gandhi Nagar Police came to know that
burglary was the handiwork of an
inter-state gang operating in the area
for the past sometime.
After
getting lead into the case, a police team
headed by SHO Inspector Gian Chand Sharma
under the direct supervision of
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) City
South Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan and
Incharge SP South Tahir conducted a raid
in the jhuggies adjoining Shamsham Ghat
at Shastri Nagar.
Some
suspected persons were rounded up and put
to sustained questioning during which
they confessed to have committed the
burglary in the jewellery shop. On their
disclosures, police recovered eight tolas
of gold and 14 kilograms of silver, the
SSP said.
The
arrested burglars have been identified as
Bhuri, son of Sheikh Singh of Uttar
Pradesh, Salta, son of Jabra of Gujarat,
Anil, son of Azad of Gujarat and Kala,
son of Mandala of Uttar Pradesh. All were
residing in the jhuggies near Shamshan
Ghat Shastri Nagar for the past sometime.
They have
been booked under Section 457 and 380
RPC.
The
preliminary investigations into the case
revealed that the arrested burglars were
also involved in series of burglaries in
their respective home States.

Two narcotic
smugglers held with 3 kg charas

6: Police today
arrested two narcotic smugglers
and recovered three kilograms of
charas from their possession.
Police
spokesman said that
Sub-Divisional Police Officer
(SDPO) Akhnoor Atul Sharma
received an information from
sources that business of sale and
purchase of the narcotics was
going on in Bantalab area for the
past some time.
On
this, the SDPO deployed some
police personnel in plain clothes
at Bantalab Chowk to keep a watch
on such activities. Today, after
getting specific information,
SDPO under the direct supervision
of Senior Superintendent of
Police (SSP) Jammu Mukesh Singh
conducted a raid in the Bantalab
area and arrested two narcotic
smugglers.
From
their possession, police
recovered three kilograms of
charas.
They
have been identified as Manzoor
Ahmed, son of Saifullah and
Nazeer Ahmed, son of Sanaullah,
both the residents of Anantnag.
Police
has registered a case under
Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Act (NDPSA) in this
regard and started further
investigations.
Police
didnt rule out the
possibility of more recovery on
the disclosure of the arrested
narcotic smugglers.

Cop
cremated with full honour

6: Cop Randhir Singh,
who attained martyrdom while
fighting with the militants at
Lal Chowk Srinagar on Wednesday,
was today cremated with full
honour at Shastri Nagar Cremation
Ground here.
Large
number of mourners, including
senior police officers and
prominent citizens, attended the
last rites of the policeman, who
was known for his bravery.
A
resident of Upper Belicharana,
Randhir Singh was posted with the
Special Task Force (STF) in
Srinagar and was part of security
forces who had killed the dreaded
militant Ghazi Baba in Kashmir
Valley in 2002. He always
remained on the fore-front in
fighting terrorists.
His
body, wrapped in tri-colour was
brought to Shastri Nagar
Cremation Ground at 9.30 am and
cremated with full honour. Every
mourner was talking about the
bravery of the cop.
But
at the same time they were
worried about his wife, minor
child and ailing parents, whose
lone bread-earner lost his life
for the sake of the nation.

Guards stage dharna

tehsil Hiranagar today staged
dharna in the premises of Tehsil

attention of the State Government
towards their long pending
demands.

monthly renumeration.
Speaking
on the occasion, president of Low
Paid Employees Federation (LPEF)
Abdul Majid Khan said that while
increasing salaries of State
employees and legislators, the
State Government totally ignored
down trodden section of the
society, which is on the verge of
starvation.
He
appealed the Government to
consider demands of Village
Guards on priority basis and
grant TA at the rate of Rs 200
per month, sanction ration on BPL
rates, provide uniforms, shoes
and stitching charges, issue
identity cards and grant family
pension in the favour of Village
Guards.

boycotted their classes and held
a demonstration.
The
protest demonstration was

(JJSF).
Raising
slogans for death sentence to the
terrorist, the JJSF activists
also torched an effigy of Mohd
Afzal Guru. Addressing the
demonstration, Bhanu Pratap
Singh, JJSF president of GGM
Science College, warned the
Government not to succumb before
the pressure tactics by
secessionists and some
intellectuals who are demanding
clemency to Afzal Guru. Any mercy
on the Parliament attack plotter
will only encourage the
anti-nationals and discourage
nationalists, he reminded.

Harsh
alleges raw deal to Jammu by
R&B Deptt

6: Former Minister and
MLA Ramnagar Harsh Dev Singh has
alleged raw deal to Jammu region
by R&B Department in the
matter of allocation of funds
under various schemes.
In
a press statement, Harsh Dev
Singh alleged that under RIDF IX,
124 road projects of Kashmir
division were got financed from
NABARD costing more than Rs 300
crores but not even a single
penny was approved for Jammu
region while similar treatment
under PMGSY and State sector
funds has been given to Jammu
region with majority of projects
suffering for want of money.
All
the ongoing schemes have come to
a halt during the last one year
due to paucity of funds while the
money provided by the Planning
Department for Cost over-run
schemes under NABARD has not been
disbursed to the districts
despite clear cut instructions of
the District Development Boards
in this regard, he added.
Also
flaying the pre-mature transfers
in the R&B Department, in
violation of the Government
policy, Mr Singh urged Chief
Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to
personally intervene and check
alleged malfunctioning at various
levels.

Akhnoor unit held a demonstration
at Muthi in protest against the
demand of clemency for Afzal Guru
involved in attack on Parliament
during December, 2001.
The
protesting BJYM activists also
torched the effigy of Chief
Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. Led
by BJYM district Akhnoor chief,
Mukesh Sharma, the demonstrators
also shouted slogans against the
coalition Government in the
State.
In
their address, BJYM state chief,
Yudhvir Sethi, general secretary,
Omi Khajuria and Mukesh Sharma
said that terrorists and traitors
of the nation deserve no mercy.
They
alleged that some political
leaders are demanding clemency
for Mr Guru for their political

Minister also sought cooperation

DOT gives Rs
3.08 cr to BSNL for telecom
services in rural areas

Telecom, Ministry of
Communication and Information
Technology has given Rs 3.08
crore to Bharat Sanchar Nigam
Limited (BSNL), J&K Circle
for providing telecom services in
the rural areas of Jammu and
Kashmir.
The
amount was given to Chief General
Manager of BSNL, J&K Circle T
R Wadhwa by Joint Controller of
Communication Accounts, J&K,
Department of Telecommunications,
Government of India Ashish Joshi
as a part of Government policy to
promote telecom facilities in
rural areas.
BSNL
has undertaken a massive
programme for providing reliable
telecom facilities utilizing
State of art technologies in
uncovered villages in the State.
During
the current financial year, BSNL
has ambitious plans of providing
1418 Village Public Telephones
(VPTs), to replace 907 VPTs and
provide 11820 telephone
connections in rural areas. About
465 remote villages in the State
are to be provided Village Public
Telephone through digital
satellite media.
The
activities undertaken by BSNL in
rural areas in J&K comprises
of operation and maintenance of
VPTs, replacement of Multi Access
Radio Relay (MARR) VPTs to
promote reliable connectivity,
installation of VPTs in the
uncovered villages, rural
community phones in the
villagessecond public phone
in villages where population
exceeds 2000. Out of total of 122
villages identified, 44 have been
provided with RCPs and
installation of RDELs (Rural
Direct Exchange Lines) in the
villages.

Rs 13 cr
paid to land owners by Railway
authorities

DODA, Oct 6: An amount
of over Rs. 13 crores have been
paid to the land owner in
Bhadarwah and Ramban area on
account of land cost, structure
building and trees acquired by
the Railway Department for laying
railway track and other
infrastructure.
This
was disclosed by Additional
Deputy Commissioner, Ramban in
the meeting of Collectors at Doda
convened by the District
Development Commissioner, Dr
Pawan Kotwal here today.
The
meeting was held to sort out
compensation issues with the land
owners of various parts of
district whose land has been or
is being proposed to be acquired
for construction of roads,
building and tourism
infrastructure mostly in
Bhadarwah Tehsil of the district.
In
Bhadarwah tehsil 630 Kanals of
land is being acquired at first
instance under the aegis of
Bhadarwah Development Authority
for creating of tourism huts,
approach roads to Tourist
Reception Centre, office building
for BDA and for other basic
development of tourist
interesting sight seeing places
in the area.
The
meeting was attended by the
Assistant Commissioner Revenue,
Doda, Additional DC, Ramban and
Collector Railways Ramban and
other functionaries of the
revenue department.
The
land owners of the Bhadarwah area
were asked by the District
Development Commissioner to come
forward for amicable negotiation
to decide the compensation of
their lands being acquired by the
Bhadarwah Development Authority
and avoid the litigation as it
will be time consuming process as
the mutual understanding is the
best way to settle their claims
by the district administration at
the earliest.
Addressing
the officers on the occasion the
District Development Commissioner
impressed upon them to go by
strict measure in each case while
recommending the compensation
cases and also ensure correct
title of the claims or the land
owners.

Doda colleges observe Wild Life

Oct 6: In
connection with the Wild Life
Week Celebrations, Degree College
Bhadarwah and Doda organised
different functions today.
The
function in Doda Degree college
was organised in collaboration
with the J&K Wild Life
Department. A symposium on the
topic" Importance of Wild
Life Conservation with special
emphasis on man-animal
conflict" was organised in
which several students actively
participated.
The
programme was presided over by
Prof S K Bhalla, Principal of the
College while M J Sharma,
Conservator of Forests was the
chief guest. Ten students
expressed their views on the
above mentioned subject. Earlier,
the chief guest and Prof Bhalla
educated the students about the
importance of this week and need
to save the wild life species
which are facing extinction.
Rabita Sofi adjudged first,
Tanvir Ahmed second while Altaf
Malik third in the contest.
At
Degree College, Bhadarwah, a
symposium was organised on the
topic" Floral and Faunal
resources of J&K State &
their significance". The
function was presided over by Dr
Iqbal, Principal of the college
and Talat Parvez, SDM was the
chief guest.
The
students spoke on the above topic
and expressed their independent
views at length. Amarjeet Singh
bagged first prize, Seema second
while Sakina third prize in the
contest.
