Need of awareness about dengue

Sir,

With the cases of dengue spreadin in the metropolis of Delhi and in Jammu as well it has become incumbent upon the Department of Health of the State to create awareness about dengue. Here too like in other parts of the country people use large number of coolers. They too keep standing water in them without making sure that it does not breed different kinds of mosquitoes. In this context the health department has to remain on high alert. The various steps that help to control deadly dengue have to be told to the people over print and audio-visual media. Jammu Municipality has a responsibility too in this regard. Wherever stagnant water is found it needs to be sprayed with DDT or chlorine. The Municipal Corporation has an active role in the eradication of dengue. Above people have a role too in its control. After all maintaining cleanliness all around is an important measure that is the responsibility of the people. So a holistic approach need to be adopted to control any possible epidemic of dengue before hand.

Mumbai blasts uncovered

Sir,

The recent cracking of the July 11 Mumbai blasts by the State Police of Maharashtra has again proved the role of the militant groups based in Pakistan. The Mumbai Police Chief has also said that there is irrefutable evidence of the intelligence service, ISI, of Pakistan in the blasts. It proves a deadly nexus is on to destabilise our country. Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon has said that Pakistan will be presented with new hard and irrefutable evidence of the role of LeT and ISI has made Pakistan uneasy. But as in past they will only refute the role of ISI for reasons which are obvious.

In this backdrop the Havana meeting between Musharraf and the Prime Minister and the decisions made at that meeting will come under strain. After Ramzan the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries will meet. Let us hope that something good will transpire at the meeting. Meanwhile we have to keep our selves at maximum alterness. We can never remain complacent in the face of such nefarious activities aimed against our country.

Hindi fortnight celebrations

Sir,

Functions are being organised to celebrate Hindi fortnight. It appears as if a work done statement is submitted to the concerned higher authorities about the celebrations. If we have a hard look on the overall attitude towards Hindi we will not be surprised that we have failed as a nation to make Hindi a truly National language. This is also important to admit that states in the south and north east are not in favour of Hindi being made as a national language; but how can be conceive a nation without a national language. In this context the views of M. S Golwalkar were for more practicle. According to him Hindi should be made a National link language and not a National language because of the simple fact that every language of India is its national language. In this way Hindi can be made acceptable to all. All said and done nowadays we have willy nilly accepted English as our link language. What will be the scope of Hindi undersuch a scenario is anybody's guess. But without doubt Hindi, which has the flavour of India's soil and is repository of a great literature is forgotten slowly.

Traffic jam at Bakshi Nagar

Sir,

The road near RRL quarters at Bakshi Nagar has been dug perhaps for making an underground drain. This work was undertaken some months back. Although the width of the road is not more than fifty feet still half portion of the road is open after being dug out. This has created problems for the smooth flow of traffic. On one side the road is too narrow to pass while as on the otherside the yawning gap on the otherside is too dangerous for anybody. Traffic moves at a snail's pace on the road. At peak hours the flow of traffic is hampered. No wonder huge traffic jams are a common sight on this road. The concerned authorities should expediate the work on the road. Afterall the development of the State is claimed to be on a fast track, a snail's pace work on this small chunk of road length is definitely unwelcome.
