UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: Government Degree College Bhadarwah thrashed Government Degree College Samba by 3-0 sets in the second match of the ongoing Inter Collegiate Volleyball Tournament being played at Government PG College, Udhampur today.

The final set score was 25-15, 25-11 and 25-16. Kushi Mohd. was the outstanding performer for the winner team.

Earlier, Onkar Singh Choudhary, Convenor Sports Board of College introduced both teams before the start of the match.

Tomorrow, Degree College Kathua is to face Degree College Doda, Degree College Udhampur will take on Degree College Akhnoor and PG Department is to clash with New Age College Billawar.

RCC beat KCC by 23 runs

JAMMU, Nov 28: Revolutionary Cricket Club defeated Kherian Cricket Club by 23 runs in the ongoing GKR Memorial Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament being played at GGM Science College here today.

Kherian Cricket Club after winning the toss opted to field first.

Batting first, Revolutionary Cricket Club made 142/9 in the allotted 20 overs.

Mukul and Shinku were the top scorers with 30 and 20 runs respectively. Mukul hit four boundaries whereas Shinku struck five hits to the fence.

For Kherian Cricket Club, Vishawjeet was the most successful bowler, who fetched three wickets followed by Sonu and Dheeraj with two wickets each.

In reply, Kherian Cricket Club was bundled out for 119 runs in 18.5 overs. Happy played a fighting knock of 47 runs comprising of 8 superbly driven boundaries. He faced 40 balls.

Riaz and Sumesh were the other main contributors for the loser team.

For Revolutionary Cricket Club, Munish bowled a splendid spell to grab four wickets for 19 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

Raju also chipped in with 2 wickets.Munish was declared the Man of the Match.

The umpires in the match were Pappu Dogra and Santa Singh. The scorers were Mohit Puri and B.B. Verma.

The tournament is being organised by Roshni Cricket Academy and sponsored by Shree Toyota, Indian Oil Corporation, Pepsi, Jammu Motors and Sangari Motors.

J&K earns draw against Shastri Club

JAMMU, Nov 28: Host J&K failed to maintain their lead ended up with 1-1 draw against Shastri Football Club (Delhi) in group A match in the ongoing IIIrd Division North Zone National Football Championship being played at Jammu University Football Field today.

J&K started off well by taking early lead in the 14th minute, when Yusuf scored a brilliant goal through Centre pass received from Rizwan.

In the 30th minute, J&K had the chance to stretch their lead but could not capitalize on it. At half time, J&K was leading by 1-0.

In the second half, Shastri Club (Delhi) regrouped themselves with much improved game plan that finally paid dividends when Amrinder Singh scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute.

Shastri Club dominated the entire 2nd half as they had the ball in their possession on maximum occasions.

In the second match, Uttaranchal Police (Uttaranchal) lost to Amity United (Haryana) by 2-0. It was a well contested match as both teams played outstandingly throughout the match. At half time, both teams remained goalless.

Bonu scored the first goal for Amity United in the 74th minute followed by Parveen Arora, who scored the second goal through penalty awarded to Amity United owing to Uttaranchal defender’s foul play in D.

Tomorrow, BSF will take on Chandigarh F.C. in the first match while Himalayan Tigers (H.P.) is to face U.P.Police (U.P.) in the next match to be played at the same venue.

Tug-of-War selection trials from December 1

JAMMU, Nov 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Tug-of-War Association would conduct selection trials from December 1-2 for both Jammu and Srinagar Divisions.

For Jammu Division, the selection trials will be held at Unique Public Higher Secondary School, Gadigarh while for Srinagar Division, they will be held at Iqbal Park, Srinagar from 11am to 2 pm.

The selected players will attend Coaching Camp to be held at same school from December 10-25. Thereafter, the State team would leave for Hyderabad (A.P.) to participate in the forthcoming 4th Senior National Tug-Of-War Championship scheduled to be held from 1st January to 5th January 2007.

Subhash House clinches Cricket final

JAMMU, Nov 28: Subhash House claimed Inter House Cricket Final defeating Vivekananda House by 24 runs in the ongoing Inter House Competitions being played at Humanity Public School as a part of their Annual Sports meet celebrations.

Subhash House made 187 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Balwinder Kumar scored not only 39 runs but bowled exceptionally well to scalp five wicket haul.

In reply, Vivekananda House was all out for 163 runs.

In Boys 100 mts, Anil Kumar of Tagore House stood first whereas Deeraj Kumar of Tagore House and Abhishek of Gandhi House finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In Junior Girls 100 mts, Jyoti Devi of Subhash House secured first position followed by Anjali Devi and Marzina Bibi of Gandhi House, who ended up 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In 800 mts Boys (13-16 yrs), Ravi Sharma of Vivekananda House finished first while Vikram Singh and Pawan Singh of Gandhi House stood 2nd and 3rd respectively. The referees were Anil Dev Singh and Ajay Kumar.

G.S. Charak, Chairman of the school and Gourav Charak, Principal were also present on the occasion.

KATHUA, Nov 28: Hosts Kathua defeated Budgam by 2 points in a keen contest in U/19 Girls as the State Level Inter District Kho-Kho Championship for U/19 Boys and Girls was commenced at Sports Stadium, Kathua today.

In U/19 Boys, Kathua again emerged winner against Pulwama by a narrow margin of 1 point. In other matches, Doda defeated Srinagar by 1 point while Jammu got walkover Anantnag.

About 260 players from all over the state are participating in the four day long Championship organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports.

Earlier, Babu Singh, Minister of Youth Services and Sports, was the chief guest on the occasion, who declared open the championship.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that Sports and Games are essential to keep the mind and body fit and it also provide an opportunity to the players to have a knowledge of each other cultures thereby help in promoting National Integration and Communal Harmony.

District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kathua, S.K. Chalotra was also present on the occasion.

Sourav seals a thrilling win in Senior Snooker

JAMMU, Nov 28: Sourav defeated Dilawar Mir by 3-2 frames in a pulsating contest in the ongoing 16th J&K State Billiards and Snooker Championship being played at Billiards Hall, M.A. Stadium today.

The frame score was 52-59, 52-53, 42-26, 57-46 and 56-40. Sahil and Abhimanyu Arora also won their matches without facing any difficulty.

Sahil outclassed Imran Bhatt by 3-1 56-34, 40-60, 82-40 and 78-51 whereas Abhimanyu beat Aditya Mahajan by the same margin 50-41, 51-9, 38-61 and 70-30.

In other matches, M.N. Khan beat Sahil Gupta by 2-23, 69-48 and 43-26, Atul beat Depi by 51-11, 64-26, 35-56 and 63-50, Abhishek Goswami beat Jishan Ahmad, Sahil Aggarwal got walkover Arshad Rathar and Abhishek Pathania beat Rajan by 3-1.

The matches were officiated by Rakesh, Surjit Singh and Shanker Dass.

The tournament is being organised by the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.

KV No 2 Sports Meet begins

AKHNOOR, Nov 28: Two day Sports Meet of K.V. No. 2 Akhnoor was commenced in the school premises today. On the opening day of the Sports Meet, competitions were held in 100mts, 200mts, 4x100 mts Relay Race, Javelin Throw and Shot Put under the supervision of Anuradha Sharma and Ashok Bhasin, Physical Teachers of the school.

Lt. Col. Deepak Vohra was the chief guest on the occasion, who declared open the Sports Meet. Later he also gave prizes to winner and runner up athletes. S.S. Gharoo, Principal, KV No.2 was also present on the occasion.
