Kathua Blues thrash Little Flower Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 25: Kathua Blues thrashed Little Flower by 77 runs in the ongoing GKR Memorial Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament played at GGM Science College today. Kathua Blues won the toss and chose to bat first. They made 151/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Himalaya Sadhotra was the top scorer, who played a fine knock of 39 runs with the help of 3 boundaries. Sandeep Singh also contributed useful 25 runs followed by Aditya and Paras, who scored 16 runs each. For Little Flower, Rahul and Suchet grabbed two wickets each. In reply, Little Flower was all out for just 74 runs in 12.3 overs. Rahul played a fighting knock of 25 runs before he got out. Amarpreet and Anil also played well for their knocks of 14 runs each. For Kathua Blues, Paras was the most successful bowler, who scalped three wickets while Anshuman, Vishwajeet and Farooq took two wickets each. Paras for his brilliant all round performance was adjudged the Man of the Match. The umpires in the match were Pappu and Santa Singh. The scorers were Mohit Puri and Rajeev Kumar. The tournament is being organised by RCA and sponsored by Shree Toyota, Indian Oil Corporation, Pepsi, Jammu Motors and Sangari Automobiles. Tomorrow, New Modern College will face KAWA- Gandhi Nagar in the next match to be played at the same venue. |

UCB honours State International Gymnasts Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 25: United Colors of Benetton (UCB) today honoured five International Gymnasts for their fine performance in the recently concluded World Aerobic Gymnastics Championship held at Bangkok (Thailand) from November 3-5. Mayank Jain bagged bronze medal in Youth Group in the Championship. Aninash Bhatia, Prop. United Colors of Benetton honoured the gymnasts namely Seema, Manpreet, Manvinder, Mayank Jain and Jaskaran. This is for the second time that UCB honoured the gymnasts for their commendable performance in International Championship. |

Zone National Football Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 25: Chandigarh Football Club defeated Uttar Pradesh Police (U.P.) by 2-0 in the inaugural match of the IIIrd Division League North Zone National Football Championship which commenced at Jammu University Football Field here today. Sunil Sharma scored the first goal for Chandigarh in the 33rd minute, when he received a fine pass from left flank. At half time, Chandigarh was leading by 1-0. In the second half, U.P. tried their best to level the lead but failed to capitalize on the chances. Chandigarh, on the other side, continued their aggresive display as Harminder Singh scored the 2nd goal in the 47th minute through a penalty. The penalty was awarded to Chandigarh as a result of foul play by Jagmohan Rawat, U.P. goalkeeper, who tripped the ball inside the penalty area. Both teams missed one chance each in the 25th and 27th minute. In the 25th minute, No.9 Deepak of Chandigarh almost put the ball in the goal post but Jagmohan Rawat made a fine save. In the 27th minute, Pramod Mishra of U.P. missed a corner hit. The officials in the match were Sevy Joseph (Kerala), Kamar Hussain (Kerala), Deepak K. Dev (Assam) and Barun Saha (IFA). In the second match, BSF (Punjab) mauled Himalayan Tigers (H.P.) by whopping 10-0 goals in a pretty one sided contest. BSF dominated the game right from the start. P.V. Ekla struck in the 7th minute to score the first goal for BSF followed by Santosh and Kamal who scored goals in the 22nd and 30th minute. The other goal scorers for the winner team were Kamal (30th min), Samrat Choudhary (35th min), J.Onseph (39th minute), Kamal (42nd min), Rajbeer Singh (47th min), Kamal (50th min), Samrat Choudhary (65th min) and Sukhvinder Singh (69th min). At half time, BSF was comfortably placed with 6-0 lead. The officials in the match were Rocky Fernandes (WIFA Maharashtra), Irfan Ullah Khan (Karanataka), Ramesh Subramanium (WIFA Maharashtra) and Himesh Burman (Assam). Shambu Nath Shou of West Bengal is the Match Commissioner in the abovesaid Championship. Earlier, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice- Chancellor, Jammu University was the chief guest on the occasion, who declared open the Championship. Ashok Angurana, (IAS), Principal Secretary Higher Education and other members of the J&K Football Association were also present on the occasion. Tomorrow, host J&K would start their campaign against Uttaranchal Police (Uttaranchal) in the first match whereas Amity United (Haryana) will take on Shastri Football Club (Delhi) in the second match to be played at the same venue. |

J&K to lock horns with Haryana in NZ Korfball final Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 25: Hosts J&K will take on defending Champion Haryana in the final of the 2nd North Zone Korfball Championship being played at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar. On the second day of the championship, Haryana defeated Uttaranchal by 22-8 in a one sided contest. Parveen with 7 goals was the top scorer for the winner team whereas Ashish also played well by scoring 5 goals for Uttaranchal. In the second match, J&K humbled Himachal Pradesh by 19-12 in a keen contest. At half time, J&K was leading by 8-4. International player, Manjeet Singh scored highest 6 goals while Jevy Kant and Vinod scored 4 goals each. In other matches played today, Haryana beat Chandigarh by 13-3, Punjab drew with Uttaranchal 9-9, J&K beat Chandigarh by 13-3, Punjab beat Himachal Pradesh by 9-8 and Chandigarh beat Uttaranchal by 10-5. The final will be played tomorrow at 10.30 am at the same venue. Jammu Tigers to face Haryana Heroes for title clash Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 25: Jammu Tigers will clash with Haryana Heroes in the final tomorrow in the ongoing Sher-e-Kashmir Korfball Gold Cup Tournament being played at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar. In the semifinals played today, Jammu Tigers outclassed V.N Korfball Club, Haryana by 14-9 while Haryana Heroes defeated G.N. Club by 12-10. Earlier, in the quarterfinals played today, Haryana Heroes beat Dun Korfball Club (Dehradun) by 13-4, Guru Nanak Korfball Club, Jammu beat B.B.N. Korfball Club, Joginder Nagar (H.P.) by 19-8, V.N. Korfball Club beat Patiala by 14-8 and Jammu Tigers beat Bilaspur Sports Club (H.P.) by 12-7. The final of the tournament will be played tomorrow at 3 pm. |
