Mobile
jammers
Sir,
The news report titled,
''Only central jails to have mobile
jammers (DE, Nov. 21)'' has atleast shown
the concern of the Government in dealing
with the problem of the use of cell
phones in the high security prisons by
dreaded militants. The recent episode of
mobile use by the terrorists in the high
security prison of Kot Balwal jail has
brought to focus the weakness in the
security apparatus of the State.
The news about the decision of the
installation of mobile jammers at the two
central jails of the State will atleast
improve the security system of these two
prisons. The jammers, it is said will
render ineffective any electronic
communication within an area of half a
kilometer must render ineffective any
attempted use of cell phones by the
criminals and the militants. It is hoped
that gradually the Government will
allocate funds for the gradually the
Government will allocate funds for the
purchase of few more jammers which can be
kept as a standby in case of any
breakdown as well as can be used for
installation in other prisons of the
State.
Meanwhile the security set
up around these jails needs to be beefed
up so that no further smuggling of cell
phones and sim cards takes place.

Sino-Indian
relations
Sir,
The visit of Chinese
President Hu to India has turned into a
landmark visit. Now, China is realising
that the growing power of India
especially its economic advancement
cannot be simple ignored. India's growing
clout in the international arena is
attracting attention of all big and
powerful counters in the world. The wide
ranging talks of the Chinese President
with the Indian leadership has been
widely received all over with interest.
We are particularly pleased at the
positive overtures of the Chinese
bilateral the signing of many bilateral
agreement is a healthy sign of a growing
relationship between the two Asian
superpowers. The talk of a civil nuclear
co-operation has been widely welcomed. It
means that China is now embarking on a
policy of constructive engagement with
our country.
The way the two counters
have approached towards the solution of
the long standing border dispute is a
lesson to the other countries of the
neighbourhood that the countries can
still move forward on economic
partnership despite having border
disputes between them. It will be a
lesson for Pakistan too to move in a
similar fashion towards constructing a
peaceful relationship with our country.

Migrant
tenements
Sir,
The newsreport titled,
"Put construction of migrant
tenements on fast track (DE, Nov. 17) has
created a glimmer of hope in the hearts
of people who live in migrant camps.
These people are at present living in
virtual pigeon holes when the space for a
even a nuclear family is very little. The
result is that the private lives of these
people have been badly affected which has
resulted in spiralling after efforts
which have neither been well documented
nor taken notice by the concerned people.
The decision of the Chief
Minister to put the construction of these
tenements one fast track is a welcome
step. This decision will, it is hoped
result in the speedy construction of
these sets as the construction work will
be undertaken in double shifts. It is
duly hoped that the work on these
tenements will be undertaken in all camps
with the same speed that so that the
people who live in sub human conditions
are given some proper space to live.

Fake
currency
Sir,
The news about the seizure
of fake currency published in this paper
(Nov 19) has again brought to light the
evil nexus between the currency
racketeers based in our State and other
parts of the country. Fake currency is
already playing havoc with the economy of
the country and this latest seizure
further brings to fore the expanding
dimension of this nefarious activity. The
police needs to be congratulated on the
successful accomplishment of the arrest
of these gangster and efforts must be
speeded up to unearth the whole racket as
well as bust other groups who engage in
fake currency racket.
More often than not these
gangs pass into the scheme of terror
groups who themselves are involved in
pumping huge amount of fake currency in
the country. Thus these gangs and their
activities are no less dangerous than the
terror groups and thus should be dealth
with sternly. Besides the local police
has to keep tab on the migrant labourers
who are now in thousands in Jammu. The
nexus of a Bihari rickshaw walla in the
above case is a pointer towards this
direction. Hence the police while dealing
with such cases should keep this vital
link also into consideration.
Yours
