Yoga team wins 2 bronze medals Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov14: The 17 member J&K State Yoga team bagged two medals and secured 11 positions in the recently cocluded 8th North Zone Yoga Championship held at Nallagarh District Bilaspur from November 11-12. The president and Secretary of Yoga Federation of India congratulated the team for their commendable performance. The team accorded a warm welcome by the officials on their arrival. This is for the first time that almost every member of state yoga team won a medal or secured a position. Anil Gupta and Tanveer Ahmad (yoga coaches State Sports Council) accompanied the team. District level inter block Sports Meet concludes Excelsior Sports Correspondent POONCH, Nov 14:The District level (Inter Block) Rural Sports and Women Sports organised by the District Coaching Centre Poonch in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports Poonch were concluded at Sports Stadium here today. All the four blocks of district Poonch participated in the tournament which was conducted under the supervision of Nirdosh Kumar Sharma I/C Sports Stadium Poonch and M.R. Sharma DYSSO Poonch. The tournament was held in the disciplines of Volleyball, Kabaddi and Tug of War in Rural Sports while in Women Sports, it was held in Kho-Kho, Athletics and Volleyball.S.D. Singh, SSP Poonch was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed individual prizes to the winner and runner up teams. S.J. Banday, member District Advisory Board Poonch was also present. Korfball players receive sports kit Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 14:Pardeep Malhotra, Vice President J&K Korfball Association today distributed sports kit among the state Korfball players who are attending the coaching camp for 2nd North Zone Korfball Championship at Govt. High School Gandhi Nagar. He also congratulated the players for the achievements during 2006 in National Korfball championships by winning three silver medals in Federation Cup, Junior and Sub-Junior National Korfball championships. He also advised the players to work hard to win medals in the remaining two korfball championships namely North Zone and National Korfball Championship and also announced more incentives for the team it they will perform well in the forthcoming Senior National Korfball Championship which is scheduled to be held at Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) from january 3-7. Mobike Dirt Track Racing Challenge from December 20 Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 14:The 8th Annual Mobike Dirt track Racing Challenge 2006 would commence from December 20- 25 at Jammu.In this context, a meeting of J&K Motor Sports Association today held a meeting under the chairmanship of JP Singh, IPS SSP Kathua at Kathua today. Vikram Singh Rathore, General Secretary JKMSA said the competitions will be held in 2/stroke, 4/stroke, Scooter and Scootey categories for both men and women at Zig Zag Racing Course with in the stadium. The JKMSA decided to conduct the event after obtaining permission from Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) Chennai, under the national competition rules of FMSCI and FIM. Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 14:Degree College Bhaderwah defeated PG Law and Science by 2 wickets in a keen contest in the ongoing Inter Collegiate Cricket tournament being played at Jammu University here today. PG Law and Science DC Bhaderwah after winning the toss decided to bat first. They were all out for 110 runs. Anoop played a fine knock of 30 runs comprised of three superbly driven hits to the fence. Ajit Pal Singh and Surinder also contributed useful 29 and 22 runs respectively. For DC Bhaderwah, Mohsin and Sandeep grabbed four and two wickets respectively. In reply, DC chased the winning target of 111 runs in 29.1 overs with two wickets to spare. Mohsin was the star batsman who played a match winning knock of 39 runs. He pierced six hits to the fence with immacculate timing. For PG Law and Science, Anoop and Ajit Pal Singh were the most successful bowlers with four and two wickets respectively. The tournament is being organised by the Department of Physical Education Jammu University under the overall supervision of Sonam Angchok Assistant Physical Director Jammu University. |

State Women Kabaddi team wins trophy Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 14:Ved Sharma, General Secretary All India Circle Kabaddi Federation (AICF) said that J&K girls received trophy in Kabaddi for the first time in history of Women Kabaddi in the recently conclued 6th Asian Kabaddi Championship held in Delhi from Nov 3-5. Teams from Srilanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Rest of India participated in championship. Rest of India team comprising of Meenu Sharma, Arti, Konika Chib, Nisha Chib and Sushma Rani. India claimed the championship while Nepal and Rest of India team finished 2nd and third respectively. The winner trophy was given by Haryana Governor on Prize Distribution day on Nov 5. |

BSF Inter Frontier Sports Meet Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 14: The BSF Inter Frontier Sports Meet got under way at BSF stadium, Paloura Camp here today. The events would be played in the disciplines of Wrestling, Judo, Boxing and Gymnastics. About 778 players from 10 frontiers including 17 Arjuna Awardees and one Padam Shree receipient are participating in the sporting extravaganza. SC Vaid IG BS, Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion who declared open the Meet. G.S. Virk, DIG BSF who is also the organising secretary of the Sports Meet gave the welcome address.Besides them, other senior officials of BSF were also present on the occasion. M.K. Razdan, DIG BSF member of the Organising Committee presented the vote of thanks.However, on the opening day of the sports meet, two finals were held in Wrestling and Judo. In Wrestling (Greecoroman 84 kg) final, Phool Kumar of Gujarat frontier bagged gold medal while Mulkh Raj of Jammu frontier had to contented with silver medal. Bronze medal was jointly won by Jagdish and Pankaj Kumar of Rajasthan and North Bengal frontier respectively. In 81 kg Judo final, Raju of Gujarat frontier won gold medal followed by Rakesh of Shillong frontier who fetched silver medal. Mehar Singh of Jammu frontier and Sandeep of South Bengal frontier clinched bronze medals. |
