J&K suffers crushing 10 wkt defeat

JAMMU, Nov 12: Host J&K suffered a crushing 10 wicket defeat against H.P. on the second day of the U-15 Poly Umrigar Cricket Trophy played at GGM Science College here today.

Resuming on their overnight total of 58/5, J&K lost Sarvadam Singh on 6. Sandeep Singh, the other remaining not out batsman on 3 runs added 15 just 15 runs before he was trapped LBW by Sahib Malhotra. Wasim Karim and Dilawar Singh too went cheaply on 3 and 2 runs respectively. J&K was bundled out for 88 runs in 42.3 overs. Abhinav Mahajan remained unbeaten on nought. For H.P. Nikhil was the most successful bowler by taking four wickets for just 18 runs. He bowled with both speed and sting. Sahib Malhotra too bowled an impressive spell to scalp three wickets while Ankush Aditya also took three wickets for 23 runs. Chasing a victory target of 46 runs in their second innings, H.P. had no difficulty whatsoever as they reached it comfortably without losing any wicket in 12.3 overs. Openers Lakhan and Karan Thakur remained not out on 34 and 12 runs respectively.

PG Deptt trounces DC Poonch

JAMMU, Nov 12: PG Deptt. Law and Science sealed a convincing 10 wicket win over Degree College Poonch in the ongoing Inter Collegiate Cricket (Men) championship being played at M.A. stadium here today. DC Poonch won the toss and decided to bat first. They were all out for paltry 35 runs in just 14.1 overs. None of their batsman was able to reached double figures. Wahid and Ajay were the top scorers with 7 and 5 runs respectively. For PG Deptt, Nadeem bowled a splendid spell to scalp five wickets while Zahid and Parvesh took three and two wickets respectively.

In reply, PG Deptt chased the modest winning target in just five overs without losing any wicket. Surinder and Vimarsh both remainded unbeated on 14 runs. The umpires in the match were Rohit Dogra and Sandeepan Sharma. The scorer was Naveen. However, the remaining matches of the tournament shall now be played at University Cricket ground from Nov.14. The tournament is being organised by the department of Physical Education Jammu University.

NZ Body Building Championship concludes

JAMMU, Nov 12: The North Zone Body Building Championship organised by All J&K Amateur Body Building Association concluded at Mini Stadium Parade here today. Near about 90 participants and 35 officials from different states participated in the championship. Gulchain Singh Charak Minister of PWD and R&B was the chief guest on the occasion who declared open the championship. Tara Chand, Speaker Legislative Assembly and Babu Singh Sports Minister were the Guest of Honour.Ravinder Gupta, Secretary State Sports Council, Davinder Singh Rana, Nirbhay Trehan and Ram Sahai were also present on the occasion.The championship was sponsored by Hero Honda Motors Pvt. Ltd.

Jammu Distt Karate Championship concludes

JAMMU, Nov. 12: The two day long 8th Jammu Distt. Karate do championship organised by Jammu Distt. Karate do Association was concluded at Indoor Sports Complex M.A. stadium here today.

Near about 150 karatekas from different schools participated in the championship. The competitions were conducted under the supervision of Sanjeev Dewan, Manoj Mehra and Naresh Chanda. The officials in the competition were Ganesh Gupta, Shashi Janotra,Vinay Babbar and Rohit Misri. S.S.P. Rajinder Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away medals to the winners and runner up karatekas. The final results of the championship are:

JAMMU Nov. 12 The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Jammu Wing today announced the list of 24 probables for the forthcoming Four Day Ranji Trophy Matches as well as for one day matches. For this, the conditioning camp and trial matches were conducted by the JKCA on August 24 at GGM Science College under the supervision of Suneet Sharma Joint Secretary JKCA Jammu Wing. The members of the selection committee who selected the probables included Mehboob Iqbal, Chairman JKCA, Nirmal Singh and Vidya Bhaskar. The probables are as follows: Dhruv Mahajan, Guru Partap Singh, Vivek Singh, Ashwani Gupta, Vijay Sharma, Pardeep Bali, Hardeep Singh, Vikrant Taggar, Jagtar Singh, Umesh Gupta, Sameer Khajuria, Ved Parkash, Inderjeet Singh, Anoop Mangotra, Sameer Khajuria, Shami Salaria, Arun Sharma, Surinder Singh Bagal, Pranav Mahajan, Ian Dev and Shafqat Baba. J&K would start their campaign against Tripura at Agartala from Nov. 23-26 in the four day match.

JAMMU, Nov 12: J&K Climbers won three medals in the recently concluded National Sport climbing Competition held at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. Harjot Kour won silver and bronze medals respectively in Lead and Speed Climbing in girls category followed by Shivani Kaith, who also bagged silver medal in Speed Climbing in the same category. The nine member J&K climbers team won total three medals. Three other climbers of J&K reached the quarterfinal stage. The team was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. Anil Choudhary, Principal MNDP School, R.S. Pura has congratulated Harjot Kour and Shivani Raj Kaith for their commendable performance. He also announced that the students shall be honoured by the school.

JAMMU, Nov 12: The 36 member J&K Baseball team (boys and girls) participated in the recently concluded 10th Junior National Baseball Championship which was held at Nehru Stadium, Goa from October 30 to Nov. 3rd. According to Fida Hussain Fidvi, General Secretary J&K Baseball Association said " Total 24 states from all over the country had participated in the above said championship organised by the Goa Baseball Association under the Auspicious of Amateur Baseball Federation of India (ABFI). Meanwhile, the Sports Council has felicitated the members of the state Baseball team along with the officials for their fine performance. The J&K squad participated under the banner of J&K State Sports Council." said Fidvi.

JAMMU, Nov 12: Jammu frontier BSF would host Inter Frontier Wrestling, Judo, Weightlifting, Boxing and Gymnastic championship from Nov 14-17 at at BSF Stadium, Paloura Camp. The opening ceremony of the meet will be held on Nov. 14. S C Vaid, IG BSF, Jammu will be chief guest on the occasion. The competition in free style and Greco Roman style will be conducted in seven weight categories. Subash Verma, Deputy Commandant and Rajesh Kumar, Asstt Commandant both Arjuna Awardees and Gold medalists in Asian Wrestling Championships in 1987 and 1982 are participating in the competitions as manager and coach. Total 165 players from different BSF frontiers will participate in the above said championship.
