Aussies
unpleasant behaviour -I
Sir,
The news in the section of
the press regarding Aussies nudging
Sharad Pawar the BCCI President at the
presentation ceremony after winning the
ICC Championship is really disappointing
and go to show their unpleasant behavior
sans even courtesy. The clippings on new
channels showed the skipper Ricky Ponting
tapping Pawar on the shoulder gesturing
to leave the stage apparently in an
enthusiasm to hold the trophy and pose
for the photo session to celebrate their
win. The manner in which the BCCI
President was asked to go off the stage
shows nothing but bad manners in-deed.
This tantamount to a sort of not only
disrespect to the elderly person but a
person of prominence. This has rightly
drawn flak from cricketers including
Sunil Gawaskar, Sachin etc, cricket
lovers and fans.
Though Mr. Pawar has played
down the controversy by saying that the
Aussies were excited and not meant to
insult him. It is certainly an indication
of his maturity and his greatness taking
such an ignominy in his strides.
Everybody knows that
Australian team is one of the best in the
world. Their performance is also on most
of the occasion is best one giving joyous
and hilarious movements of thrill and
excitements to the cricket lovers and
fans. And considering the greatness of
their team obliviously based their superb
performance on the field, such incidents
though may look trivial but need to the
given a proper thought and consideration.
The championship winning excitement and
celebration ought not to have been marked
by such seemingly behavioral
deficiencies. The near madness is
excitement of winning forgetting a sense
of dignity and decency to even an
ordinary person is certainly not
acceptable and would cause him pinch and
hurt, not to talk of a public figure of
high dignity. The BCCI should advise the
touring teams to respect the cultural
traditions of our country.

II
Sir,
The behaviour displaced at
the presentation ceremony of the
championship trophy by the Australian
players were not in the true spot of the
game. Cricket, it is said is a
gentleman's game but at least some
Cricketers from Australia seem to have
forgotten it. They need to understand
Indian cultural and traditions. Even
though we have adopted some western
values but essentially we are Indian.
As Indian we respect our
elders. We don't address them 'Hey
Buddy'. It may be the culture of certain
countries but everybody who comes to
India must know about the culture and
traditions that we deeply espouse. The
behaviour that some players displayed
towards Sharad Pawar can never be
tolerated. Even though we may differ with
him over politics etc but as Indian we
are one. He is an elder, respectable and
we desire that respect be shown to him.
It is good that the reviling
antics have been widely condemned. It is
hoped that it does not happen again. We
cherish our elders. We respect them. Let
the world know.

Smoking
Sir,
Smoking is one of the
leading diseases in the World Smoking has
very serious effects on our health. The
growing habit of smoking in our really an
issue of serious concern society is for
all of us.
Many a young and even
teen-aged are seen smoking almost at all
public places, though there is a ban on
smoking at public places like Rly.
stations, bus stands, Museum, Auditorium,
Govt. offices etc. But surprisingly
people are seen smoking under the nose of
captions'' of ''No smoking'' in trains,
Buses and other public places. The recent
studies reveal that smoking is almost a
sure kick of death as it causes a number
of damages to the human body. A
non-smoker or passive smoker who works
with or is in the constant company of
smokers is at slightly a greater risk
than smokers.
Recently, the U.S based
National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute
found that smoking attacks the blood
vessals and blood cells making them
stickly. This allows the build up of
dangerous fatty substance like
Cholesterol. Cigarette smoke paralyses or
destroys the cilia-the fine hairs that
line the upper airways and help protect
against infection. It causes coughing and
shortness of breath or tightness in the
chest. The damages to the body due to
smoking are cumulative and the main being
cause Hairloss, cataracts, Hearingloss,
wrinkling, skin cancer, Tooth Decay,
Emphysema, Heart disease, stomach unless,
discoloured fingers, Uterine Cancer and
miscarriage, Infertility, Psoriasis,
Cancer, and many other problems like
urinary track infection, Kidney-related
diseases, insomnia, and many health
dis-orders.
