Dilsoz Football Tournament begins

JAMMU, Nov 8: Dilsoz Football Tournament organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police was declared open by Z H Chesti, DIG Armed Kashmir Range at Dilsoz Stadium, Natipora.

The Tournament is being organised by Mushtaq Sadiq, Commandant JKAP 11th Battalion in collaboration with J&K FootballA ssociation and Football Association of District Budgam.

Two exhibition matches were played after the inaugural function. In the Junior Category, Young Budgam lost to Young Novelty Channapora in a tie breaker. The score was 3-2 in the favour of Young Novelty.

In the Senior Category, Budgam XI won by solitary goal by defeating Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department.

The matches among others were witnesed by veteran football players and the members of the State Sports Council.

Tomorrow, Friends Club Lasjan will take on Aftab Club and Youth Club Kanipora will lock horns with Juci Club Suthso.

JAMMU, Nov 8: MAM College defeated SPMR College of Commerce in the inaugural match of the Inter-Collegiate Hockey (Men) Tournament being conducted by Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu.

MAM College defeated SPMR College of Commerce by 2-1. For MAM College Devinder Singh and Talvinder Singh scored one goal each while Ranjeet Singh scored one goal for Commerce College.

Tomorrow, GGM Science College will take on Post Graduate Department and Government Degree College Poonch will lock horns with MAM College Jammu.

RCC lifts J&K Champions Trophy

JAMMU, Nov 8: Rehari Cricket Club (RCC) today lifted J&K Champions Trophy by defeating KC Cricket Club in the final.

KC Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, RCC made a total of 167 runs in stipulated 30 overs. Panjak Sasan was the highest scorer. He made 38 runs in 46 balls with the help of three fours.

He was followed by Vikrant Tagger, who made 30 runs in 43 balls and Abhishek Singh, who contributed 27 runs in 36 balls.

Dhruv Mahajan clinched two wickets while Raman Dutta, Pardeep Bali and Sameer Khajuria took one wicket each for the KC Cricket Club.

KC Cricket Club could not chase the target and lost all its wickets at 155 runs in 29.4 overs. Pardeep Bali made highest 55 runs in 61 balls with the help of six fours and one six. He was followed by Dhruv Mahajan, who scored 25 runs in 28 overs with the help of two hits to the fence.

For RCC, Anoop Mahajan clinched three wickets while Anil Balgotra and Iqbal Sidiqui took two wickets each.

Anil Kumar and Rajinder Singh were the umpires while B B Verma nd Gokul Verma were the scorers.

Anil Balgotra of RCC was given Man of the Match award while Pardeep Bali bagged Man of the Series award.

The Champions Trophy was sponsored by M/s Mass House Building Cooperative Ltd. Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion and he gave away prizes among the participating players.

Ishan lifts Sr Snooker title

JAMMU, Nov 8: Ishan Choudhary today lifted Senior Snooker title of the 16th Jammu District Open Billiards and Snooker Championship being played at Billiards Hall of MA Stadium here.

Ishan Choudhary defeated Sumesh Turki to lift the title. It was for the first time that Ishan lifted Senior Snooker title. His performance in the final was superb.

In the Senior Billiards final to be played tomorrow, Kamal Rohmetra to take on Jaideep Manocha for the title clash.

The Championship is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Championship.

GDC Bhaderwah registers 9 wkt
victory over Science College

JAMMU, Nov 8: Government Degree College Bhaderwah today registered nine wickets victory over GGM Science College in the Inter-Collegiate Men Cricket Tournament being played at University of Jammu grounds.

Elected to bat first after winning the toss, GGM Science College made a total of 48 runs in 12.1 overs by losing all wickets. Veerti Raina was the only batsman of the Science College, who could play freely. He contributed 21 runs.

Arshad and Jamshed of Bhaderwah College clinched three and two wickets respectively.

Bhaderwah College easily chased the target of 49 runs in 5.1 overs that too by losing only one wicket. Mohsin and Hanis scored 19 runs each. Mohsin’s 19 runs include two fours while Hanis made four hits to the fence in his 19 runs.

The lone wicket of Bhaderwah College was taken by Birban of Science College.

Arshad Sheikh was declared Man of the Match.

Sandeepam and Amit were the umpires.

Roshan Lal lifts Jhiri Kesari title

UDHAMPUR, Nov 8: Pahalwan Roshan Lal today lifted Jhiri Kesari 2006 title by defeating Pawan Sharma of Amritsar in a tough bout played at village Jhiri. He was also declared as best wrestler in the Vishal Dangal.

The Vishal Dangal was organised by Department of Rural Development Block Marh under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. President of the Association Shiv Kumar Sharma gave cash prize and traditional Ist Malli to Pahalwan Roshan Lal. Pawan Sharma, loser of the final bout was also given cash prize.

In the Dangal, about 34 bouts were played. The second bout was fought between Jai Beer and Anil Kumar of Jammu. Jaibeer won the bout in nine minutes.

Third bout was played between Allah Mai and Yashpal. Allah Mai won the bout in eight minutes. Fourth bout which was fought between Sonu and Jaibeer ended in a draw.

Fencing coaching camp commences

KATRA, Nov 8: A 10-day fencing coaching camp for school children organized by the District Fencing Association in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir State Amateur Fencing Association commenced at Higher Secondary School here today.

The Sub Divisional Magistrate Reasi Ajeet Kumar Sahu presided over the function while Additional SP Katra Ashok Sharma who was chief guest inaugurated the demonstration made by the teachers invited on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sahu said that the camp was organized for first time in this town to educate the young generation particularly students about the aims and objectives which are beneficial in the field of fencing like other games. This camp will open new avenues for the students in the field of sports like other games. The students should learn techniques of the competition so that they can participate national level sports events, he added.

The demonstration of fencing competition was made by Ujjwal Gupta who participated in the World Championship in 2005 and Varun Slathia who participated in Common Wealth Games held at Tamil Nadu.

Among others, Deputy Commandant CRPF, Dy Chief Education Officer Udhampur, Principal Higher Secondary School Katra, Tehsildar Reasi, Naib Tehsildar Katra, Station House Officer Katra, AEE electronics and PHE, President Indian Style Wrestling Association, Vice President Hotel and Restaurant Association Katra, heads of various schools, sport lovers and political leaders of the town in large number were present on the occasion.

J&K wins bronze medal in Senior

JAMMU, Nov 8: Jammu and Kashmir Men and Women teams have qualified for the forthcoming 15th Federation Cup to be held at Mumbai from December 27 to 29.

J&K gained entry into Federation Cup by winning bronze medal in the 17th Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship (Men and Women) held at Vijayawada. The Women’s team bagged bronze medal (3rd place) after defeating Rajasthan, Vidharba and Maharashtra in the competition while J&K’s men team was placed at 6th position.

Mudasir Abbas of J&K and Shikha Panday of Goa were declared as man and woman of the Championship for their outstanding performance.

Besides J&K, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa have qualified for Federation Cup in men section while Goa, AP, Vidharbha, UP, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have qualified in women section.
