Muslims
will reject PDF raised by clerics: Soz
Excelsior
Correspondent
NEW DELHI, May 18: Union Minister for
Water Resources Prof Saifuddin Soz has
said that floating of the Peoples
Democratic Front by some Muslim clerics,
which is by all standards, a non-starter
is at best a retrograde step.
In a press
statement issued here today, Prof Soz
said that launching of the Front is a
divisive move and the very concept is
detrimental to the Muslim cause.
The
Congress leader cautioned the Muslim
community against the move to institute a
Muslim political organisation which is
fraught with danger. He said that the
interests of the Muslims can be best
served by a secular organisation like the
Indian National Congress which has
already spearheaded several laudable
measures through UPA Government for
ameliorating the lot of minorities.
Prof Soz
pointed out that group of Muslim clerics
, who are attempting to constitute the
Front are playing a nefarious game and
denigrating the sacrifices of the Muslim
community towards the secular national
mainstream, especially during the freedom
struggle. He said the divisive forces
represented by the group of Muslims
clerics can do nothing more than
communalising the atmosphere which can
only strengthen the disruptive forces in
the country. Prof Soz expressed hope that
people of the country will outrightly
reject the Front being raised in Uttar
Pardesh and elsewhere.

Making
this demand in Rajya Sabha, Mr Bajwa
said, "before partition of our
country, there was a road in operation

living on both sides of the border as
distance between Jammu and Sialkot is
hardly 40 km".
Saying
that the Governments of India and
Pakistan have opened some routes as a
goodwill gesture, Mr Bajwa has requested
the Central Government to consider the
reopening of the said road. He mentioned
that a large number of refugees from PoK
have settled on this belt and by opening
of Suchetgarh-Sialkot road the relations
between two countries and the Jammu
region which has been ignored so far to
have access to the other side of the
border will get justice.
Bajwa also
urged the UPA Government for upgradation
and widening of Suchetgarh road which was
in a dilapidated condition and demanded
that the said road be brought under Prime

LPEF
criticises Finance Department authorities
Excelsior
Correspondent
JAMMU, May 18: President of All
J&K Government Low Paid Employees
Federation, Abdul Majid Khan, has
severely criticized the authorities of
Finance Department directing the Director
J&K Funds Organization and other
concerned to transfer unclaimed GP Fund
amount beyond six months to deposits
which do not attract interest.
Mr Khan
said this do not conform to ground
realities and was highly disadvantageous
to subscribing employees especially those
who are frequently transferred from one
district to the other or from one
department to the other or who have
migrated to safer places for security
reasons under compelling circumstances
and that the Government was well aware of
it.
LPEF chief
said in most of the cases it was
impracticable for the subscribing
employee to have actual position of their
deposits made in their GP Fund accounts
up-to-date at the time of their
retirement and that until they have
upto-date information in this regard, how
can they file application for final
withdrawal of their GP Fund amount within
six months period as envisaged in the GP
Fund Rule 7, note 1.
Khan
recalled that Federation on several
occasions in the past have represented
before various higher authorities of
Finance department to incorporate a
clause in the LPC for the DDOs to record
the total amount deposited by the
subscribing employee during the period of
his posting in that office so that this
could be conveyed to District Fund office
of his new place of posting and unless
this was done and provision of Rule 7,
Note 1 of GP Fund Rules may be kept in
abeyance, as it was highly irrational,
ill-advised and disadvantageous to the
subscribing employees.
