Composite
culture makes sense
Sir,
This has the reference of
the write up "sense and nonsense of
composite culture" (DE July 09).
omposite culture makes much sense in the
present day. As a result of
globalization, technological changes and
migration, more and more countries are
becoming culturally diverse, offering a
new composite culture. There is
intermingling of cultures now and one has
to accept that composite culture is a
reality specially for a country like
India which is the home of all major
religions of the world and there is
cultural diversity in society.
Composite culture does not
mean that we blindly follow other
cultures setting aside our own. It only
means that we accept others cultures and
seek to take the best out of them within
the frame- work of our culture. Indian
culture is deeply rooted in spirituality.
No other country has contributed too much
to the cultural development of humanity
as India. Cultural diversity is India's
identity. Foundation of composite culture
in India is spirituality. For an
individual who has no idea of
spirituality, he will not fully grasp the
meaning of composite culture. Composite
culture also means universal tolerance
and sympathy towards other cultures.
Treating the mankind as divine family
brings us close to the understanding of
composite culture.
The uniqueness of Indian
culture is that it is based on totality
of life which is for the good of whole
humanity and welfare of all existence.
Indian culture would not only enrich
other cultures which come in its contact
but would also enrich itself. An
individual who has a universal mind will
be at home in any part of world whatever
be the nationality and language.

bombing
I
Sir,
This refers to the recent
bomb blasts in Mumbai after serial
bombings of May 1993. It is the schematic
design of the terrorists to target the
progressive democracies of the world. The
bombing of trains in Madrid and London
have once again been reminded. The
civilised world is shaken and its time
that all freedom loving nations must act
together and act dicisively against this
scourge of terrorism in what ever form it
exists around us.
It is ironic that the
terrorists trained, armed and sent across
from our neighbourhood continue to
murder, maim and terrorise the innocents.
now it is not "If" but
"when" the next terrorist
attack on a high value Indian target
would occur.
India must act now or else
its honour and dignity shall be at State.

Sir,
Mumbai 11/7 serial blasts is
another instance of the collapse of
administration and intelligence at the
Centre and State level. Fighting
terrorism has become a joke in India.
When all nations strengthened
anti-terrorist laws, the UPA repealed
POTA.
