A welcome step

Sir,

It is really a matter of pleasure that the Govt. have taken a decision to shift dairies out of JMC limit (D.E Dated. 22.12.2006). It is indeed a welcome step in the right direction. It was actually a long pending demand of people residing in may colonies of Jammu city. The existence of a number of dairies within many colonies not only create filthy and unhygienic environment but also result into choaking of drainage and sewerage system thereby causing unimaginable stink as well. Generally the cattle from such dairies are left for straying during day time cause lot of inconvenience to the general public and create traffic havoc thereby causing chances of accident.

The concerned authorities are requested to implement the decision to shift dairies out of JMC limit as per guidelines of the Govt at the earliest possible so that the people suffering due to the stray cattle of such dairies get relief. The JMC authorities are also requested to take strict note of stray cattle belonging to the people residing around colonies.

Say it with Tulips

Sir,

The news report titled, ''Siraj Bagh emerging as world's largest Tulip Garden (DE, Dec 22)'' is adding a new dimension to the boundaries of the State. Siraj Bagh is bound to have an impact on the tourism of the State.

According to the news report the Tulips there which are numbered in lakhs will present a great sight. The mass flowering has a mesmerising effect on the beholder. When Tulips are a bloom it presents a great sight. In Holland Tulips are cultivated on vast tracts and infact the largest exporter of Tulips is Holland and believe it or not the tiny country of Israel.

Efforts must be redoubled to explore the possibility of growing Tulips in the various temperate or hilly regions of Jammu division also. There are vast areas in Doda, Poonch, Rajouri, Billawar etc where flowers can be grown on commercial scale. This way the farmers can earn a decent living enabling them to overcome the condition of perpetual penury. Flowers have all over the world been used as a medium of earning large amounts of foreign exchange. If right and holistic policies are adopted by the Government commercial floriculture can have a promising role in the economy of the State.
