Dairies
out of JMC limit!
Sir,
The decision of shifting all
the dairies out of the Jammu Municipal
Corporation limit to prevent chocking of
nullahs and drains and to ensure complete
sanitation of our Jammu city is an
appreciable and much awaited step of our
Government (DE, Dec 22).
Because of the location of
these dairies in the residential areas in
interior city and also in many cases
within the premises of residences of some
people, there is no specific arrangement
of lifting or dumping the cow dung within
their dairies. The dairy owners put all
this (cow dung) into the adjoining street
drains because of which all drains are
blocked resulting into chocking and
blocking of street-drains and nullahs
which ultimately result into overflow of
drains by which all the streets and lanes
are covered with the cow dung and other
garbage. And the serious side effect is
that people, particularly the elderly
persons and school going small children
are facing lethal risk to move freely and
smoothly on foot in the streets.
Besides all this, the
outburst of smell and atmospheric
pollution created virtually by the cow
dung by itself as well as by blocking the
drains is seriously affecting the health
and sanitation of the people. Even our
Safai Karamcharies feel lot of difficulty
by clearing the blockage of these drains
and maximum of their time is wasted only
in clearing these blocks, whereas for
sweeping the rest of streets there is
left no time at their disposal.
Therefore, we hail and
welcome the decision of our Government to
shift all the dairies from the interior
city to out of the municipal limit by
providing sufficient and spacious place
there to the dairy owners to run their
business in appropriate manners. We hope
that this decision must be implemented in
letter and spirit forthwith and in this
way neither the owners of dairies nor the
general public should oppose it by taking
any plea even the plea of convenience of
consumers. Dairies must be out of
residential locality of people and the
owners after milching (getting and
collecting milk) from the dairies should
transport to city market or at their
homes to sell to customers. This shall
also be a hygiencial for the general
public.

A sad
trend
Sir,
The strength of a nation
among many other things is the army or
should we say the defence forces of that
nation. It will not be an exaggeration to
say that our country is proud of the
lofty traditions of its army. The
sacrifices made by it to preserve the
sovereighty of our nation is for every
body to see. But of late the cases of
suicides and fatricides are on the
increase in it. It is both shocking as
well as alarming. The people who are
miles away from their homes should end
their lives in utter desperation is a
matter of concern for all of us.
No one can doubt the role
and contribution of the Army. They brave
all threats and are ready to sacrifice
everything for the sake of their
motherland. Such brave people should not
waste their lives in some fit of sheer
desperation whatever and howsoever the
reasons may be. Although a committee has
been set up by the Government and certain
measures like setting up of Yoga camps or
Jawan-officer interaction has been taken
up yet a lot more needs to be done in
this regard. We have to mitigate the
sufferings of such brave people so that
such cases are not repeated time and
again. The whole nation should always
stand behind these great jawans who are
our great heroes and their sacrifices.

Domestic
violence and morality
Sir,
A detailed discussion and
interview of educationists, advocates,
Police Officers and other important
citizens by Sh. Avtar Bhat (DE, Dec.10)
was worth reading wherein some showd dire
need for domestic violence act in J&K
State, some others said that law already
existing in J&K State is sufficient
to deal with the problems of domestic
violence, but its strict implementation
is required. Many people in the write up
rightly pointed out to the possibility of
its misuse in blackmailing some
respectable husbands at the hands of
wives, and that provision needs to be
made for protection of such husbands or
their family members against misuse of
such laws.
However there is needs to
analyse that no law on earth can be
successful in absence of moral education.
Properly educating the people against
domestic violence is more important than
creating new acts or implementing the
existing ones. We have utterly failed in
imparting moral education to our sons and
daughters. We have imparted to them
education sans moral values. We have made
them engineers, doctors, advocates etc,
but moral education is lacking which
makes them money minded, materialistic
and unsocial.
The relationship of husband
and wife should be so strong, that none
should be able to break it, it should be
like relationship of water and milk which
cannot be separated from each other
without destroying their own identity.
The mantras are invariably
recited by the pandits and purohits at
the time of Saptpadi (Seven steps) but
rarely remembered by both the partners.
Moral education only can
produce partners who would understand the
sanctity of marriage. What is required is
sacrifice by both towards each other and
understanding eachother, rather becoming
one with eachother.
The mantra that "we
must walk together talk together, know
eachother fully just as our elders did in
the past'' should be adhered to in letter
and spirit by both the partners.
Acting upon these great
thoughts can only bring happiness in the
married life of the couple.
Yours
etc...
