Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 25: J&K lost to Goa by just 1 run in the final in an exciting contest in Men section in the 15th Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship (Men and Women) played at Vashi, Mumbai today. The final match was reduced to 6 overs instead of 8 overs. Goa made 44 runs in 5.5 overs while J&K fell managed 43 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Skipper Narotam Singh played a fine knock of 23 runs. However, J&K reached the final for the first time in Men section. In Women section, J&K lost to Maharashtra by 12 runs in the quarterfinal. Batting first, Maharashtra posted 42 runs in 6 overs. In reply, J&K was all out for 30 runs. Narotam Singh, who scored total 162 runs was declared the Batsman of the Tournament while Sagar Nayak of Goa was adjudged the Bowler of the Tournament. He scalped total 11 wickets in the championship. |

The programme was a cultural bonanza showcasing the multi-dimensional potential and talent of the students. The predominant theme of the event was the need to connect the audience and the children to the roots of the country and arouse civic and social consciousness. Maj. Gen. Sanjeev Loomba, GOC Tiger division, who was the chief guest and said that every institution must look for new and innovative methods to ensure its balanced growth otherwise these would bound to stagnate to the disadvantage of the society. The educational institutions like that of army must eccept the challenges by treading a different path and prove that no challenge is insurmountable. He said in this attitude and spirit lies the success and growth of institutions. He complimented the Chairman, Principal, Staff and students of the army school Jammu cantt for putting up a excellent show displaying their talent and potential which would definitely give them immense confidence and expertise to meet challenges of future in fields of academics and extra curricular activities. President AWWA, Sadhana Loomba, Vice President AWWA Shashi Choudhary,Chairman and Dy. GOC Brig. M. M. Choudhary and principal of the school Anu Jandial were also present at the function. "Cultural Fiesta" had a befitting start with a devotional performance of Diya Dance by class VIII. It was an invocation to Maa Saraswati-Goddess of learning knowledge and wisdom. The "Salutation to Mother India" was a stirring presentation to the tune of one of the most popular composition of A. R. Rehman, by class I students who flashed the brilliant colours of the Tricolour, while exhibiting their patriotic fervour. The shocking reminder of environmental degradation was highlighted by students of class III and V in "Paryavaran" and "Kapre Ki Katran", in a forceful manner. The performance conveyed the message to nurture and nourish the bounties of Mother Nature, right from this moment before further damage spells a doom for the coming generation. |

Cultural items mark Annual Day celebration Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 25: St. Xavier Convent School, Barnai today celebrated its 10th Annual Day function in the school premises. Manjit Singh, Minister of State for Education was the chief guest on the occasion who lighted traditional lamp to inaugurate the function. The students of the school performed dance items on Dogri, Hindi and Rajasthani followed by the solo items and skits. H R Padha, Director of the school read the annual report of the school. She said total 3 positions were secured by the students in last years CBSE class XI examination. She further said that school also excelled in extra curricular activities. The chief guest also distributed certificates and cash prizes to the meritorious students. The Minister in his speech, lauded the efforts of the school management.
