SRTC to face J&K Bank for title clash

JAMMU, Dec. 24: SRTC will take on J&K Bank for the title clash on Tuesday in the ongoing Senior Knock Out Football Tournament being played at GGM Science College.

Both the semifinals were played today. In the first semifinal, SRTC blanked J&K Police by 3-0 in a one sided contest. SRTC went into the lead through Rafeeq Dar, who scored a fine goal in the 12th minute. Shabir Dar scored the 2nd goal in the 30th minute to stretch team’s lead further. J&K Police, although played well but never succeeded in penetrating strong SRTC defence. At half time, SRTC was leading by 2-0.

Shabir Dar again struck in the 70th minute to score his 2nd and team’s 3rd goal to secure their berth in the final. Two yellow cards were also shown in the match to Manmohan Singh (SRTC) and Bandral (J&K Police). The officials in the match were Suresh Gupta, Farooq Ahmad and Mohd Shaffi.

In the second semifinal, J&K Bank defeated BSF by 2-1 goals in a keenly contested match. Both teams played outstandingly throughout the match. J&K Bank opened their account through Showkat, who scored team’s first goal in the 39th minute. BSF replied well by scoring the equalizer in the 53rd minute to make the contest exciting. J&K Bank however, kept their cool and finally emerged winners as Showkat scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute.

Tajammul Hussain of J&K Bank received yellow card in the match. The officials in the match were Nisar Hussain, Ketan Kumar, Farooq Ahmad and Mohd Shaffi.

Sheikh Mehmood, R K Kohli, Amarjeet Singh, Ashok Sharma and Shiv Pal Sharma were present during the semifinal matches.

J&K starts on a winning note

JAMMU, Dec 24: J&K boys opened their campaign in style by winning both their inaugural matches played today against Maharashtra and Orissa in the 15th Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship (Men and Women) which commenced at Vashi, Mumbai today.

In the first match played in morning session, J&K defeated Maharashtra by 7 wickets. Batting first, Maharashtra made 64 for 8 in the allotted 8 overs. J&K chased the target in 7 overs with by losing just 1 wicket in the process. Skipper Narottam Singh was the top scorer with 36 runs while Imtiaz also played well for his knock of 20 runs.

In the second match, J&K beat Orissa by 7 wickets. Batting first, Orissa accumulated 31 runs in the stipulated 6 overs while J&K get the required runs well with in 5 overs. Mudassir was the top scorer with 18 runs. In other matches, Chandigarh beat Goa, Maharashtra beat Vidharba, Chandigarh beat AP, UP beat Maharashtra, Jharkhand beat Orissa and Goa beat AP.

In Women Section, J&K lost their first match against Maharashtra while in the second match, they outclassed Vidharba by chasing victory target of 64 runs in the allotted 6 overs. In other match, Goa defeated Vidharba.

The championship is being played at two venues namely Navi Mumbai High School and Saint Lawrence Junior College.

JKP XI trounces Karry Packer XI

JAMMU, Dec 24: JKP XI defeated Karry Packer XI by 26 runs in an exhibition match played at GGM Science College Ground today. J&K skipper SSP Mukesh Singh won the toss and decided to bat first. They posted 152/9 in the allotted 25 overs. Shashi and Jatinder Raina played impressive knocks of 48 runs each with former hit 4 boundaries while latter struck 4 hits to the fence. Skipper Mukesh Singh himself was out for duck.

For Karry Packer, Danish and Anupam took 2 wickets each whereas Sambyal , Yasir and Rohit scalped 1 wicket each.

In reply, Karry Packer was all out for 126 runs in 23.4 overs. Yasir played fighting knock of 52 runs comprising of 1 four and 2 sixes. Babbar also played a handy knock of 27 runs. For JKP XI, Shashi took 3 wickets followed by J Raina and Parvez, who fetched 2 wickets each. Shashi for his excellent all round performance was declared the Man of the Match. The umpires in the match were Santa Singh and Pappu Dogra. The scorer was Rajeev Kumar Pakhetra.

The match was organised by the Roshni Cricket Academy (RCA). Sheetal Bharti gave away winner and runner up trophy to both the teams. Sanjay Kotwal, SP City was also present on the occasion.

Tawi Trekkers team leaves for Panaji

JAMMU, Dec 24: Two member team of J&K Tawi Trekkers today left for Panaji (Goa) to undertake reconnaissance of the coastal areas of Goa. Ram Khajuria, General Secretary, J&K Tawi Trekkers and Abhimanyu Sherpa, a senior member of Tawi Trekkers during their week long tour would visit the coastal villages of Goa to explore the possibility of conducting a coastal trek for Tawi Trekkers members during the ongoing Silver Jubilee year of the club.

The club plans to organise a 12 days "Coastal Goa Trek" which also include other adventurous activities like River Cruises and Water Sports.
