Justice
at last
Sir,
After a long drawn legal
Battle, verdict in the Jessica Lall
murder case has been pronounced by the
Delhi High Court with life sentence
handed out to the main accused Manu
Sharma, four and three years imprisonment
to Amardeep Singh Gill and Vikas Yadav.
After a long drawn battle of
the truth victory was made possible by
the sustained campaign of Sabarina Lall,
the sister of the victim Jessica Lall who
left no stone unturned to ensure that
Culprits are nabbed and don't go scot
free for want to evidence.
The case had assumed greater
significance because the people involved
in the cold blooded murder were kith and
kin of the high profile politicians who
wielded power and had enough of money and
influence to turn the outcome of the case
in their favour. They succeeded in the
Trail Court but kudos to Sabrina Lall who
braved all irritants, hurdles and the
dangers, continued her fight for justice
relentlessly and turned the tables on the
powerful defence side.
In this particular case the
role of the media which created awareness
in the society about this case and
developed public opinion which became
instrumental in trial of the case, was
highly appreciable. Prime witnesses had
to reveal the truth in the Court. This
case sends a message loud and clear. How
big and powerful the criminals may be,
they can be convicted and severely
punished under law for their high
handedness and crimes.
This also sounds the
alarming bells for the politicians and
the highups to beware and mend the ways
of their progeny lest they will be dealt
according to the law of the land. It
reinforces and restores the public faith
in the Judiciary, instills a sense of
confidence and moral courage in the
people fighting for Justice. I trust it
will serve as an effective deterrent to
the high profile killers and a boon for
the Justice seekers.
Yours

Sa Ma Pa
Sir,
It is highly praiseworthy
that the famous young artist Abhay Rustum
Sopori, son of the eminent musician Bajan
Sopori has decided to think about his
home state. Son of the soil, Abhay Rustum
Sopori belongs to the eminent family of
musicians of Kashmir whole contribution
to music is legendary. The elder
musicians of his clan like Dina Nath
Sopori and Jagar Nath Sopori made a mask
for themselves in the field of performing
arts. Prem Sangeet Academy which was
founded by them gave many musicians to
the State. Even now after the exdous of
Pandits from the Valley Prem Sangeet
Niketan is still alive. Sa Ma Pa (Sopori
Academy of Music and performing arts) has
done the right thing in starting music
classes for a week or so in Jammu. The
aspiring artists and musicians of the
State will get exposure to the top class
teachers who will help fine tune and hone
the skills of the students of the State.
The devotion of Sa Ma Pa towards Indian
classical music is refreshing. Indian
classical music is unparalleled as far as
the inner quality of the softness of the
Ragas are concerned. The music is ever
refreshing and soothing. Abhay and his
effort to cultivate and nurture the
sampling of Indian classical music in
Jammu is a step in the right direction.

First
blood
Sir,
At last Team India has come
to terms with itself. Of course the test
matches is a different cup of tea. But
this time the team made amends. The
result was a thumping victory rather like
tasting the first blood. It seems that
the bitter taste of defeat has made our
team a bit stronger. As they say,
adversity makes you learn and makes you
determined also. At last some honour has
been salvaged and we hope more test
matches will be won by us. Let us keep
the ODI series in the back of our minds
what has happened cannot be undone. We
have to learn from our silly mistakes and
poor strategy. Let the team focus on
tests. But the return of the Dada
(Ganguly) and Lakshman had a salutary
effect on the batting.
After all the old adage 'Old
is gold' holds true here also. How could
we ignore the likes of Ganguly and the
master craftsman Lakshman remains a
riddle which needs to the answered. Our
coaches and selectors have developed some
nation which they ought to shun in
presence of the pressing demands of
exigency. In bowling Zaheer and Sreesant
have made a huge difference. The body
language and gestures of Sreesant with
the bat after hitting a six off Nel
speaks about his mind. He is out for a
kill Let the whole team lay the trap.
Yours
