Corruption
a scourage
Sir,
The most popular word in
present era is corruption. Every one
young and old, men and women, rich and
poor honest and dishonest do not disagree
that the corruption is a social,
political and economical malice, sapping
the very vitality of the nation. Every
one, leaving the exceptions aside, do not
hesitate to go for this unhealthy
practice, if changed. A great degradation
is being witnessed and moral values which
once used to be valued much in the
society appear to have been disappeared.
Consequently, a phenomenon of
dissatisfaction prevails every where.
Corruption in any form is against the law
of morality and the principles of
humanity. It not only jeopardises the
good order of the society, but the vital
organs of the Government also get
weakened. The efforts to eradicate it
also do not look satisfactory as the high
echelons of the Government are not free
from this disease.
Thanks to the Chief Minister
for his determination to wipe it out from
root and branch. But single swallow can
not make a summer. Until all join
together whole heartedly nothing good is
expected as its roots have deepened
beyond measures. Therefore, like income
tax return, all the employees be made to
pledge in the name of God that they will
discharge their duties honestly and with
unfailing dedication. Alongside, in order
to imbibe the qualities, the morality
demands in any citizen, the books
prescribed for the students must be rich
and full or moral/social values.

Fake
degrees
Sir,
A news report titled, ''
Fake degrees of Magadh University
detected (DE, Dec 12)'' was like an eye
opener. The racket of fake degrees has
been going on for a very long time. It is
sad or rather highly unfortunate that
such fake degrees have got jobs as well
as promotions for the candidates who own
them. What more surprising is the news
that the employees at the certification
and validation sector of the said
University are hand in glove with the
racketeers. Whenever a degree was sent
for verification these employees returned
them as 'duly authenticated' It speaks
for the itself. The level to which
corruption has seeded into our society.
The efforts of the Crime Branch in this
regard are praise worthy. At least by
acting as decoy customers they have
managed to get into the corrupt practices
regarding fake degrees of the said
University.
The department must initiate
stringent action against the persons
involved in this racket and un veil those
who are guilty. The damage which such
corrupt and morally debased people do to
our society is not difficult to imagine.
The drive against fake degrees must
continue and reach to its logical end.

Five
percent inflation
Sir,
The news report titled,
''Govt. determined to control
inflation.... (DE, Dec 10) speaks about
the growing concern of the Government
towards controlling inflation at 5
percent. The Prime Minister, himself an
economist of international repute has
made this point while addressing National
Development Council meeting in New Delhi.
It is seen that over the last six months
or so the cost of essential commodities
has started rising steeply, though for a
welcome change the price of petrol and
diesel was brought down.
But still the inflation has
been registered. In economic matters the
inflation rate of above 5 percent is
considered unhealthy and unbearable.
Though we have had an overall economic
growth rate of seven to eight percent a
full double than what was previously
called Hindu growth rate still the common
man is feeling a hole burning in his
pocket. On the other hand the agriculture
sector has grown only by 2 percent which
again reflects in the inflationary
symptoms. The growth of rural sector has
to be higher so that a healthy economic
growth is achieved. It is hoped that the
inflation will be controlled at or below
the tolerable 5 percent otherwise the man
in the street will continue to suffer.
