KC Public School celebrates 9th Annual Day

JAMMU, Dec 19: KC Public School today celebrated its 9th Annual Day by organising an impressive and colourful function in the school premises.

On the occasion, the senior school students presented scintillating cultural items and highlighted unique cultural ethos of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Through group songs, dances, English play, a Christmas carol and two skits, the students displayed their talent.

A soothing and serenading orchestra was also presented by the students.

Speaker of the State Assembly Tara Chand, who was chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to more than fifty students who had represented the State at national level in various activities.

Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt Mangat Ram Sharma, who was the guest of honour, lauded the role of KC family for providing quality services in the field of education.

Earlier, the school Principal Jorawar Singh presented the annual report and highlighted achievements of the schools in the field of academics, sports and other competitive activities.

Vote of thanks was presented by Raju Chowdhary, vice-chairman of the KC Educational Society and Director of the school.

Besides, the parents of students and the school staff, Sudershan Mahajan (chairman of KC Educational Society), Kanta Mahajan, and Arti Chowdhary also attended the function.

Arshad clinches Men’s title in Squash tourney

JAMMU, Dec 19: Arshad khan outclassed Krishan Sharma in the final to claim Men’s title in 1st Sher-i-Kashmir Open Squash Championship which concluded at Jammu Club today. The final score was 9-4,6-9, 0-9 and 5-9. In Junior Boy’s section, Arjun Singh outclassed Uday Bhaskar by 9-5 and 9-8 in the final to clinch the title.

Ajay Sadhotra, Ex-Minister and President, National Conference, Jammu Province was the chief guest on the occasion. He gave away winner and runner up trophy the players. K K Khosa, Secretary, Jammu Club, Sheikh Fazal, former Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma, Joint Secretary, State Sports Council, Krishan Lal Sharma, Sudhir Sharma, member State Sports Council, Waseem Raja, General Secretary, J&K State Squash Rackets Association were also present. The championship was organised by the J&K State Squash Rackets Association.

Jodhamal Public School celebrates Annual Day

JAMMU, Dec 19: Jodhamal Public School celebrated its 2nd Annual Day by organising a grand function at Abhinav Theatre, here today.

On the occasion, the school students presented various items and left the audience spell bound by their performance. The programme started with lighting of ceremonial lamp which was followed by a flute recital by students and then Saraswati Vandana.

The equisiteness of classical and the rawness of folk could easily be seen in the items of Kathak and Machera Dance. It was good to see the fairy tale-Pied Piper of Hamelin being performed by the students of Prenur and LKG. Small children of class I presented puppet dance while the Quabbali by class II students added charm to the whole function. the synchronization of the classical recitation and patriotic songs were also appreciated.

Jammu University Vice-chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo, who was chief guest on the occasion, extended his greetings to the school on its annual day and hoped that it would soon attain the reputation as one of the best schools in the country. Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Nandan Kuthiala while the school Principal Rita Lakhanpal informed the audience about the progress made by the school.

J&K on brink of innings defeat

JAMMU, Dec 19: Hosts J&K’s are on the brink of innings defeat as they were reeling at 166/5 in their second innings against Himachal Pradesh at stumps on the third day of the ongoing Ranji Trophy Cricket match being played at GGM Science College Hostel Ground today.

Hardeep Singh on 23 and Vijay Sharma on 1 were at the crease when bad light forced the umpires to stop the match before 2.5 overs to be bowled. J&K still need 132 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Earlier, Sarandeep Singh ripped through J&K’s middle order in first innings to claim 6 wickets for 42 runs. J&K was all out for 209 runs in 74.5 overs.

Kamaljeet Singh was the first man to go today. He scored 65 runs adding just 15 runs to his overnight total of 50 runs. Hardeep Singh on the other hand, played with resilience and completed a fine fifty. He scored 61 runs comprising of 8 hits to the fence.

The remaining batsmen wereunable to cope with the disciplined HP bowling especially Sarandeep Singh, who bowled an excellent spell. Ashok Thakur and Vishal Bhatia also bowled an impressive spell to scalp 2 wickets each conceding 50 and 47 runs respectively. Abid Nabi (6), Samir Khajuria (0), Jagtar Singh (1) were all fell cheaply by playing reckless strokes.

J&K in their second innings was not very different as they again lost wickets at regular intervals except skipper Arshad Bhatt, who played a gutsy knock of 65 runs studded with 6 hits to the fence. Dhruv Mahajan also played well for his knock of 38 runs. Sarandeep Singh took his wicket. Huwaid and Majid Dar scored 15 and 1 runs respectively.

For HP, Vijeet Malik took 2 wickets while Sarandeep Singh, Vishal Bhatia and Sangram Singh snared 1 wicket each. Total 57.4 overs were bowled today in J&K’s second innings.

JAMMU, Dec 19: Lawrence Public School today celebrated its annual day. Minister for Rural Development Jugal Kishore and Jugal Kishore were guests of honour at the annual day function.

Large number of educationists, teachers, students, social workers, parents and prominent citizens attended the function. Prominent among the attendees were noted Gandhian workers and social activists Joshi and S. P. Verma.

Speaking on the occasion, Kishore underscored the importance of education in reforming the human genetic material into such a mould as would not only be brilliant in academic and scientific fields but phenomenally exhibit high characteristics of human beings.

He further said that present day education lays stress only on achieving academic excellence and nurtures young buds in career building ignoring the importance of character building. "This has grown materialistic temperament and commercial behaviour giving rise to so many social evils". India, he said, has since ages remained abode of great values, principles and character alongwith an important seat of wide-ranging knowledge.

He said "our scientists and scholars of unparalleled excellence have given birth to basics of mathematics and other scientific subjects round which revolves the today’s advancement. However, it has never been devoid of human values and high graded character". He said present day requirements also demand from us that we should aim to obtain twin objectives of scientific knowledge and character building from education system. The teachers have stupendous role in this respect as they engineer the soft and tender human resources ore into its true shape" he said.

JCP to clash with TDC in cricket final

JAMMU, Dec 19: Trikuta Degree College (TDC) and Jammu College of Physiotherapy (JCP) have entered into the final of the ongoing Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament being played at GGM Science College.

In the first semifinal, Trikuta Degree College defeated GGM Science College by 63 runs. TDC after winning the toss opted to bat first. They accumulated 147/6 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Ravi Pandita played an excellent knock of 75 runs in just 55 balls. He struck 5 boundaries. Rahul also contributed useful 38 runs. For Science College, Ankush grabbed 3 wickets while Vivek and Aman took 1 wicket each.

In reply, Science College was bundled out for 84 runs in 15.4 overs. Ankush was top scorer with 22 runs. For TDC, Chove Sharma snared 3 wickets whereas Akash and Abhishek took 2 wickets each.

In the second semifinal, Jammu College of Physiotherapy registered a comprehensive win over AISF Council by 59 runs. JPC won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 174 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs. Sheetal was the top star batsman, who played a fine knock of 87 runs followed by Mehraj, who also contributed useful 29 runs. For AISF, Anil took 2 wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 175 runs, AISF was all out for 115 runs in 15.4 overs. Raman played a fighting knock of 28 runs. For JPC, Nausheen fetched 3 wickets while Prabjot took 2 wickets. The final will be played on Thurday.

State Level Athletic Meet concludes

JAMMU, Dec 19: Pummy Kumar (Doda) finished 1st in 100 mts sprint in boys section as the State Level Athletic Meet for U/19 boys and girls organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports was concluded at Jammu University today. Jai Kumar of Jammu and Mohd Ilyaz of Pulwama stood 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In Boys 400 mts final, Shabir Kumar of Jammu bagged 1st place while Ghanishyam (Kathua) and Mohd Ilyaz (Pulwama) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

S S Bali, Assistant Director, Department of Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest on the occasion, who distributed medals to winner and runner up athletes. B N Bhatt and Mangat Ram Sharma were also present on the occasion.

Final Results:

Boys 1500mts: Jagdish Chander, Jammu (1st), Khalil Ahmed, Poonch (2nd) and Panshok Dorjey, Udhampur (3rd).

Javelin Throw: Atul Sharma, Jammu (1st), Gouri Lal, Doda (2nd) and Rakesh Kumar, Jammu (3rd).

Tripple Jump: Wasim Ahmad, Poonch (1st), Javaid Ahmed, Srinagar (2nd) and Raj Singh, Jammu (3rd).

Girls:

1500mts: Ekta Rani, Kathua (1st), Manju Devi, Jammu (2nd) and Shahin Akhtar, Poonch (3rd).

JAMMU, Dec 19: Saying that suitable medium of instructions is helpful to make the student community to comprehend the knowledge, Minister Incharge Youth Services, Sports and Administrative Reforms Inspections Babu Singh has called for a uniform medium of instructions in all Government as well private schools to make students grasp every bit of learning in a better and befitting manner.

The Minister was addressing Inter College Anjum Debate function organized by the Modern Cultural Club with the collaboration of Programme Coordinator NSS University of Jammu and Government Post Graduate College Rajouri at Auditorium Hall GPG College Rajouri today.

Describing human resource as the most effective component in the development process, Mr. Babu Singh said that utilization of both natural and human resource must o in symbolic and sustainable manner to ensure balanced and positive development. He said "innocent human resource in the shape of our students can be put to better utilization provided the teaching process goes in a smooth way", He said that education means all round development of a child and added that sports, circular and extra circular activities helps in building physical and mental health of students simultaneously.

He further said that a project for construction of youth hostel at Rajouri is in pipeline which on completion would provide accommodations to the sports persons besides tourists coming to the various destinations of the district.

About 20 students of various colleges and institution included Tariq college of Education, Rajouri, GPGC, Rajouri, Govt. Science College, Jammu, GDC, Poonch, GDC, Udhampur, GDC, Thanamandi, Himalyan Degree College, Rajouri, GDC, Kishtwar and Government Degree College, Bhaderwah from Jammu division participated in the Inter College Anjum Debate. The Minister also distributed the prizes and certificates among the students.

Vice Chairman, Pahari Development Board Shabir Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri Parvez Ahmed Malik, SSP, Rajouri Farooq Khan, Principal PG College Rajouri, Programme Coordinator NSS University of Jammu Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chief Functionary Modern Cultural Club were also address the gathering on the occasion.
