Subject scheme of studies

Sir,

Kindly refer to the academic notification No. (Acad-C)/5th subject/B/05 dated 24-11-2005 issued by the Director Academics (J&K) BOSE, Dt. 27th of Nov. 2005 whereunder the five subject scheme of studies was to be introduced and implemented for class 11th and class 12th in all the Hr-Sec schools of the J&K State besides making it compulsory to offer and pass all the five subjects in both the classes instead of four (4) subjects as notified earlier by the BOSE.

This was really a welcome decision which would surely benefit the teaching staff and the students to gain the scientific knowledge of the subjects like Environmental Science, Information Technology, Bio-chemistry, Bio-Technology and Computer Science well within the premises of the (10+2) schools of the State instead of attending other private or Govt. Institutions.

Well! the aforesaid arrangement of subject scheme of studies was done rightly to benefit the students and the improve the academic standard in the State but it is a matter of surprise that the teaching staff for the maximum of the newly introduced subjects viz Environmental Science, Bio-Chemistry, Information Technology, Computer Science and Electronics etc etc. has not either been made available or the subjects (s) totally not been introduced in maximum of the (10+2) schools of the State and the Lecturers posts for these subjects have not been created and filled up. Thus all this arrangements made by the J&K (BOSE) is without the creation and filling up of the posts of lecturers for the 5th subject most preferably from the in-service qualified and experienced teachers/Masters which needs proper attention of J&K Education Department and the BOSE for the greater good of the students and the teaching staff.

Best athlete at Doha

Sir,

The Asian games at Doha have brought a mixed bag for our country. In numbers of gold medals we are at sixth position with ten golds though in total we have won about sixty medals. But one thing that is of pride for us is that are shooter Jaspal Rana has won three gold medals. Thus he has earned for himself the best athlete of the games. Jaspal Rana is the first Indian athlete who has been declared as the best athlete in Asian games till date. It speaks of volumes about the fortitude, dedication and determination of this ace shooter. He has undoubtedly made the country proud. Inspite of his heroics and other sports men we must learn from our show at the games.

Though it has not been dismal but it has also not been extra-ordinary given the fact that we are nation of more than one billion. A smaller country like Thailand or Kazhakistan has emerged higher up than us should make us sit and take a deep sigh. After all when shall we win a gold medal in Olympics. It still remains a distant dream. We should learn from China and make efforts wholeheartedly to improve sports standard in the country.

Industrial exhibition

Sir,

The Industrial Exhibition at Exhibition grounds by the banks of river Tawi is attracting crowds even during the chilly wintery nights. The exhibition is showcasing the State's devise economic and cultural activity. The stalls are tastefully decorated and in the evening under dazzling electric lamps big and small, conventional, decorative, neon or CFL and various nooks and corners of the exhibition ground looks like a fairy tale place. The people are attracted towards the stall of various departments. The stalls of JKHMPC, Handicrafts, local artisans, decorative or trinket stalls, the silk weaving stalls, engineering etc are attracting people. The children find it a fit place to while away their time in merry go rounds and other motorised wheels etc.

The exhibition should be extended so that more and more people visit it do shopping and come to know about the economic potential of the State. Would it not have been better if the exhibition would have been opened in February till April so that during warmer evenings more and more people as well as tourists could see it in large numbers.
